One of the very best years of this line . To throw those plates around that fast that precise is phenomenal . Second dude in is just jacked! The intensity attention to detail precision and above all the sound make this the best section Of its kind
One of my favorite as well as terrifying lot moments was in Walnut, Ca. when I managed 2 get an awesome spot right next 2 them and every time he did anything w/the right I felt the wind rush past me and if anyone would have bumped me slightly from behind I would have been in serious pain. Seeing dude do his thing so up close and personal was one of the most jaw-dropping and awe-inspiring moments in my life, no BS.
My favorite vid of THE SCV Cymline (and it's damn hard 2 choose a favorite :b) and dude closest 2 the camera is my fave so far. He's just always got the sickest look and check out how ridiculously fast and aggressive he executes his Viper swipe.
i totally agree, the viper is a really complicated looking visual but in reality it's actually pretty easy, with a little practice and everyone having the understanding of exactly where their cymbal is swiping it can be easily done
FYI, Viper is at 2:14 if people JUST want to see that. And I love how people are saying that high school cymbal lines can't do the Viper. It's honestly not that hard if you practice it through. I believe people can pull it off. My cymbal line did and it only took us a week to master it. So just because YOU can't do it, doesn't mean others can't. :)
Those cymbals are only about 20 inches. Specifically Ziljdian Classic Orchestrals which are in fact very light, it's a sound preference that determines what the instructors want. And yea they have section leaders too, the guy 2nd from the left was an 5-year vet/age-out
i hope im good as these guys eventually. im the cymbal captain at my high school, and i make all the new freshmen watch this video, and watching their faces is the best part. by the end of basketball season we can do some of these, but not nearly as sharp as these guys lol
I'm shocked that they march concert cymbals, I've picked up a pair before and never liked the way they've felt but damn do they make the perfect sounds with those things
@smartbluma my favorite part was from when i pressed play till the end. but ill say it cleverly like "when the cymbal crashes from start to end". and then people will go "oh, hey liked the WHOLE THING."
@thsma2009 No the "heaviest they ever marched" were Zildjian Stadiums in '07 which are also pretty light, Vanguard marches light cymbals but like I said it's the sound the cymbals produce that is important. An example of heavy would be 21' Sabian Synergys, but they sound like ass haha
Nithin was the fucking baddest Cymbal Player i ever seen... All Santa Clara Vanguard Cymbals i´ve seen was pretty cool, but he was amazing... Also the guy who´s at 2007 JONZ Cymbal Line Video who stand next to Nithin was pretty cool too! I love Santa Clara Vanugard, the coolest and tightest Corps i ever seen, i was thinkin to be with SCV in 2012, when i´m 20
Even 18"s are difficult to move like this. And the way they sizzle, you can tell the cymbals are on the thick side as well. After 12 hours a day carrying these (minus 3 hours for meals) I'm sure the weight just becomes part of the job. :)
The Viper is the visual move they do at 2:14....it's gone through some changes over the years, but it's still basically the same...freakin' scary!! And this is not a school band....the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps is one of the premier marching music groups in the world, having won multiple world championships. And if you think the cymbal line's bad-ass (which is CERTAINLY is), you should see the rest of the corps! And this coming from a Blue Devils alum...
its tradition. you will never ever find someone on vanguard cymbal line with hair. im not sure how long they've been doing it, but its just how they do things.
Don't you wonder what these are all called? Here are my ideas... 0:10 "Open the Door" 0:20 "Fall in Love" 0:45 "Slit my Throat" & "Pushes" 0:54 "Around the World" & "Air Guitar" 1:12 "Don't Look at Me" 1:25 "Rock-a-bye" or "Hack-Saw" 1:31 "Jacob's Ladder" 1:48 "Horizontal Jab & Lay it Down" 1:54 "Groove" 2:13 "ATTACK" 2:18 "Epic Facepalm" 2:30 "Superhero Pose" ...you're welcome
When people ask what I play in drumline, I respond, simply, "cymbals". Then they proceed to make ridiculous gestures resembling the classic monkey with cymbals, commenting on how easy playing cymbals looks. Now I've memorized the web address for this video, and I write it on a slip of paper and give it to them. They never say the same again. (:

This just proves how much of a badass you have to be to be on SCV cymbals.
ohmygoodness. this makes my heart happy. &makes me want to march scv cymbals with a crazily intense passion.
i'm lovin' those crisp cymbals. makes everything SHINE even more:)

the second guy to the left is my music teachers husband
Probably the best Video to show what Cymbal playing is like on the web.
After watching them a few years ago. i got a whole new respect for cymbal lines. lol
grooviest drum break in DCI IMO
you just can't help but feel it..
This line has that bass that you can feel in your throat
all i can say is that vanguard is the only corps that someone would put a video on youtube of just their cymbal line. balls as hell
I march cymbals and I have never seen anything like this. Truly phenominal
You're right. I watched this before I truly understood the greatest move ever created. :)
It's what they do and have done forever, the show within a show.
sickest visual ever with the neck slice
2:13 is called the viper. Its the most legandary plates effect of all time.
This is awesome! Our line freaked out when they saw this and now they way to do a scene.
damn this is so crazy this is easily one of SCVs best years for cymbals
"flagging as porn". Love it! Second dude from left is rocking a kickass beard!
...and this is there warm up.
...well this is actually show music
Sean Bowers oh xD
***** pulse percussion did it in a warm up in 2014 though
best cymbal line ever
you know the guy on the left uses old spice
i love badass cymbal players
So far...SCV has the BEST CYMBAL LINE I'VE SEEN!!!!!
FYI, Viper is at 2:14 if people JUST want to see that. And I love how people are saying that high school cymbal lines can't do the Viper. It's honestly not that hard if you practice it through. it is fascinating. you guys rock.
It's the best you will ever see.
absolutely awesome.
Jesus christ, these guys are good.

damn!!!! my arms hurt just watchin that!!!! good shit fella's
i hope im good as these guys eventually. im the cymbal captain at my high school, and i make all the new freshmen watch this video, and watching their faces is the best part. by the end of basketball season we can do some of these, but not nearly as sharp as these guys lol
Emily Johnson same, but I’m in a middle school
last year our high school cymbal line did it, it really is hard
How many pairs of Bibbs do they go through in a season?...
I've only ever marched heavy cymbals, the three years i marched with Mission we had 20" Zildjian that weighed 8 pounds each
redrun101 8lb 😭
Dude. That was fucking badasssss.
I'm shocked that they march concert cymbals, I've picked up a pair before and never liked the way they've felt
but damn do they make the perfect sounds with those things
@smartbluma my favorite part was from when i pressed play till the end. but ill say it cleverly like "when the cymbal crashes from start to end". and then people will go "oh, hey liked the WHOLE THING."
i had a funny mental image of what they would look like without the cymbals
@thsma2009 No the "heaviest they ever marched" were Zildjian Stadiums in '07 which are also pretty light, Vanguard marches light cymbals but like I said it's the sound the cymbals produce that is important. An example of heavy would be 21' Sabian Synergys, but they sound like ass haha

The Viper is the coolest cymbal thing, but 1:18 is the most hilarious one
LOL!
Even 18"s are difficult to move like this. And the way they sizzle, you can tell the cymbals are on the thick side as well.
After 12 hours a day carrying these (minus 3 hours for meals) I'm sure the weight just becomes part of the job. :)
That move alone could land them all in the hospital

And this coming from a Blue Devils alum...
Amazing
their biceps must be MASSIVE
woww i met some of them cuz my instructor used to be on the line with them and now he teaches the scv cadets XD
1:31 my favorite visual next to the viper
absolutely!
its tradition. you will never ever find someone on vanguard cymbal line with hair. im not sure how long they've been doing it, but its just how they do things.
awesome
I know this video is about the cyms...but tenors at :47...DAMN. SEXY BEATS.
The heads are purposefully shaved. I heard they aren't allowed to shave like that close anymore though. And the facial hair is optional.
oops my bad, they marched Classic Orchestrals that year :p i wasn't paying attention before
so fucking awesome
2:12 always gets me.
Full of win
Owned
yesssssssss sooo gooood
I hope we get some lighter cymbals, we march synergys. Only 18" synergys, but that's pretty heavy for a freshman.
fuck me! they are the most badass cymbal line ever!
Don't you wonder what these are all called? Here are my ideas...
0:10 "Open the Door"
0:20 "Fall in Love"
0:45 "Slit my Throat" & "Pushes"
0:54 "Around the World" & "Air Guitar"
1:12 "Don't Look at Me"
1:25 "Rock-a-bye" or "Hack-Saw"
1:31 "Jacob's Ladder"
1:48 "Horizontal Jab & Lay it Down"
1:54 "Groove"
2:13 "ATTACK"
2:18 "Epic Facepalm"
2:30 "Superhero Pose"
...you're welcome
2:13 is called viper
@@claytonsumrall3456 bro… 9 years 😳
@@allimcmannequin I’m impressed you even replied
sick...
Bad-fuckin ass. There should be some SCV/Santa Clara Vanguard tags on this video, though, I think they deserve some kind of credit.
1:30
GOOD GAWD!
they make it look so easy............its ridiculous
Apparently, 12 people were killed while attempting the Pit Viper.
It builds character, getting beheaded.
@SweetlyDissonant highly doubted
I don't think I'll ever look at a cymbal line the same way.
All I can think of is like the guy on the end looks like a dark version of Mario
yea... good call
This is the reason I asked Leo to teach me and do Cadets.
the center left guy looks like my math teacher.
The dude on the left is too intense for me XD
damn, i tried learning that. shit was hard. almost died! x]
20 inch Concert Orchestrals in 2008. No where near 8 pounds each.
@sarasaysyourface a DCI group called the Santa Clara Vanguard
If you ask me....SCV still and will always have the best cymbal line in DCI history....
Dauuumm Beastt!
Have to say, 2:12 was pretty badass >.
hahahaahahha visual 0:40... only SCV, baby!
No, not cymbal lines. Just THIS cymbal line. They are the only ones who do what they do.
The guy on the left looks like Mo Farah!
agreed
@Imly55 It's a tradition for the cyms to shave their heads
what happens if one of those guys messup...try explaining that one to that guys parents
Strongest section in drum corps? SCV Cymbal Line
My favorite part were the cymbal crashes from 0:00 to 2:36.
LEGIT
Since when was Vaas from Far Cry 3 in the Cymbal Line?
Pause at 0:45
At 2:13!!!!VIPER!!!!!
What about the Crossmen?
sorry, I mean 2:18 !!!
1:31 made me poop my pants
what is brandon (second from the left) wearing around his neck?
Is that Nick in the center?
