    Many people don't realize that 16-hour shifts for farmers is normal many times. When it is time to plant, you have to plant. When it is time to harvest, you have to harvest. Any delay could be the difference between profit and loss for a growing season! Well done, Brian! Glad it's going well.

      Grandpa always said "You make hay when the sun shines" which was his way of saying you get it done no matter what it takes. That is what farming and ranching is about. Thanks to grandpa and his many life lessons. He and his brothers and sisters had 2700 beautiful mountain acres in Northern California on the South Fork of the Mokelumne River. It has been a long time but I would love to buck hay one more time like the old days more than 50 years ago.

      @Justget Onwithit People are to soft these days. I worked at a cherry packing shed when I was 24 we went in a 5 usually worked with no breaks until 1 in the AM then we might go get something to eat go home sleep and be back at 5 AM. It was the job. You pack fruit when it is ready. Most people have never had to work those kind of hours but there was something fun about beating yourself up. There was a bar next to the packing shed sometimes I was so hungry I would go in and have one of the sandwiches that are so bad only a drunk would eat it but it filled my stomach. As crappy a job and experience as it was I still look fondly back on those days. Those were the days my friend.

    How do you only have 72k subs? This is probably the most wholesome #vanlife channels on RUclips. You show that you are willing to work for what you have rather than sit behind a computer screen and rely on RUclips ad revenues and sponsorships. That's great,I admire that about you Brian--keep it up!

    • @StacyForest738
      @StacyForest738 4 года назад +4

      @Justget Onwithit Right? I work 8 hours a day behind a screen (medical field) and I definitely consider it work. Plus it is always such a backhanded compliment to say "how do you not have more subscribers?" He has a good number of subs and has been steadily growing, success doesn't happen over night. Learn to appreciate what you have and let what you have be enough.

    You should get a raise for making your job look fun. I used to work on a farm, we harvested turnips (Rutabagas), potato and cabbage. The man who owned the farm told me "To be a good farmer you have to have a weak mind and a strong back, otherwise your going to be bored senseless with back pain."

    I have an apartment and have been slowly fixing a ‘94 Dodge Ram van 250. My biggest concern is the fact that the van has 176,000 miles on it. It makes me nervous to drive it very far from homebase. I Work a seasonal job where I work 12 hour days for 3 to 12 weeks at a time and I love the fact that I earn good money in a short amount of time. I’m on a job right now for 3 weeks, and I’m super excited to get home and take a little mini vaca in my 94. Thank you fir sharing your adventures with us!

      @Lora Nelson, spend the $100 to have a mechanic check it over thoroughly. I have a 1989 with 97000 miles-- but dodge, ford and chevy will go 300000 or more. 176k isnt allthat much if it has been cared for. get the major repairs done correctly. My mech did brakes and wheel bearings, i have ahole in the muffler and a couple other small things-- and he told there is nothing wrong with my van that will strand me. I want to go south this winter!! Enjoy and take care!

    I worked for a farmer in Hallock, MN. This year's harvest was done in one week to the day for us. Last year it was bad a lot of farmers had to leave some of there fields not harvested because the weather was so bad. For those who want to know if you are driving for a farmer you do not need a CDL.

    I worked Drayton last year wish I was there this year but family called. It was fun. We had a near freak accident last year. I was watching the truck that was dumping like Brian is doing in this video at the piler. Suddenly I saw the dump bed start to tilt at a crazy angle. I started to wave to the driver to lower his dump which he did. The dump waved in the air nearly turning over which is a really bad event. It turned out that the tail gate some how lodged against the wall of the gate and didn't slide down as it should have. It was a million to one freak occurrence. It sure got all our blood moving that night. The gate has ramp that become walls when they raise up so the beets stay on the belt to the piler. Great video Brian. Week and a half? Now I am glad I didn't make it. Thanks family. Last year I was there 5 weeks and left a day early which was stupid of me but my son needed someone to care for his son my grandson and it was a long drive back to Coos Bay, Oregon. What a year 2020 has been.
