    I review the Convoy S21G titanium flashlight. This light is like a work of art! I have the version with the 3000K SFT40 (high CRI), which is the holy grail of LEDs right now. Find out whether this is the right light for you, by watching this video.

    Convoy S21G (SFT40, 3000K) Video Transcript:
    General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
    • So I was browsing the Convoy website… and came across this new light - had to check it out! Simon from Convoy sent me a free sample of the S21G for review. One thing I love about this light is the clean and minimalist look. Even the branding is barely visible. I'm a big fan of the Convoy S6 which also follows this minimalist design with no branding. The finish is amazing and it's difficult for me to decide whether I like the polished Ti or stonewash version better.
    • You get the light and a lanyard, that's it! Unless you order a battery separately.
    • Comparison with T2 and S2+ Titanium (polished)
    Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel and reflector
    • Excellent built quality - it feels like it'll survive a drop from the top of a building. The stonewash finish lends well to titanium somehow - and I worry less if I drop it, as scuffs will just blend in. The cutouts are all machined perfectly with no imperfections or sharp edges. This is particularly important with titanium. The tail switch appears to be made of titanium as well. You can take the light apart very easily - no special tools are required. It has a nice weight to it as well but is still suitable as an EDC, unlike some copper models. It feels like a premium-quality light, and I like the low-key design.
    • Takes a 21700 cell for greatly sustained output.
    • SFT40 in 3000K. Can get other tints too Also comes with the XHP50.3HI in various tints. SMO reflector. Simple bezel with no crenulation.
    UI - modes
    • 12 mode groupings. Reverse switch. Press once to switch on, half press to switch modes. Mode memory can be turned off.
    Performance - total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
    • Beam is throwy with lots of spill thanks to the SFT40. The XHP50.3 would produce a larger hotspot but won't throw as far.
    Considerations
    • No onboard charging, or battery included.
    • Gets hot on higher modes - this is due to the titanium host. Mainly the head gets hot, tube gets warm but comfortable to hold.
    • A little heavier than aluminum - could be pro or con. Still light enough to carry around.
    Verdict
    This is one of the best-looking EDC lights in my collection. The stonewash titanium build gives the light a premium feel and makes it more durable, slightly heavier but still comfortable enough to pocket. Somehow the high CRI and 21700 cell formal makes this light feel like more of a tool, given the wider range of applications.

      Hey bro, thank you. I added in a few more zoomie effects which seems to make them more engaging. I'd go that Maratac Reach! Specs say nearly 2km throw? That's incredible for a light of that size.

    I love that finish, looks like some kind of engineering workshop tool
    Got my self a Sofirn Q8plus the otherday, my first REALLY big lights, and boy is it amazing.
    I lit up a 500meter section of abandoned runway with it and all the bushes to the side of it, almost like day time haha.

      Oh yeah that's another classic - they have a few of those can style flashlights. Only thing is I never use those larger lights anymore these days.

    I’m still on the fence with this light. Really nice performance for the price, but just really busy looking. I wish Simon would’ve done a clean/simplistic look on these. Or at least choose one style. Kinda looks like parts from three different lights put together.

      @DarrenYeoYT  Месяц назад

      The polished version looks a bit more put together. Think it's still a great value Ti light.

    Can you change the switch to a full rubber tactical tail switch or rgb version of the stock switch?

      I'm not sure mate. You might want to message Simon or ask in our Facebook group. As it's a 21700 lights, I'm not sure if the switches designed for S2+ etc will work.

    How effective is the cooling?

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  3 месяца назад +1

      Not ideal but adequate to keep the components happy. Titanium has lower conductivity compared to aluminium/copper. But it's way tougher. Head gets very hot on 100% mode. Body is OK to hold

  • @Cuccos19

    Pure elements: Al: 2,700g/cm3, Ti: 4,506g/cm3, Fe: 7,874g/cm3, Cu: 8,96g/cm3. So Titanium is about 1.5x more heavy than aluminium. Of course they are alloys usually which makes them a bit different in density. Also, titanium is not a very hard metal. Its tensile and crushing stregth are very good, and it's a very bad heat and electric conductors among the metals. Copper is damn heavy for sure. Also very malleable metal. My copper T3 fell from the 6th floor right onto the concrete sidewalk. Only 30-40cms were the miss from the near sandpit (kids used to play in that in the old days, now its dirty and full of weed*). Only the backside, the "ears" where you put the lanyard damaged a bit, but everything is working, and even it can tailstand. But the force of impact was something shere brute I bet, with that heavy 130 grams about.
    *No, not THAT kind of weed.😂

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  4 месяца назад +1

      So I guess these lights can withstand a fall from a building :D thanks for the technical knowledge about those metals.. I read that there's a ton of titanium alloys with slight variations in other metals added.

    • @Cuccos19
      @Cuccos19 4 месяца назад +2

      @@DarrenYeoYT I'm no alloy expert, but I know that from Grade 1 to Grade 5 is like Grade 1 is pure titanium and Grade 5 is technically the 6ALV4, which has 90% titanium, 6% aluminium, and 4% vanadium. This is what usually called the "aerospace grade titanium". This is strongest and "least soft" one. But one thing sure: titanium is a terrible heat conductor. As the Convoy lights are already modular - as you said it as well, easy to take them apart, and even get fixed with some spare parts (I did it already) - the head could be copper or brass for the best heat dispersion. The rest could be titanium. Maybe the bezel could be stainless steel... you know, glassbraker (or something else, I don't wanna give advices).
      I hope sometime you will try the new T5, and maybe make a compare to the T3 (not the body material what interesting for me, but the glass+reflector vs. TIR lens - flood/throw, etc, just which one is better for general EDC). Oh, I forgot: when my copper T3 fell from the 6th floor onto the concrete, inside there was a 14500 li-ion battery, with a built in Type-C port for charging. The impact force was so big, that the plastic wrapper of the battery ripped off at the positive end. But no other damage. No explosion. The battery is working, and even the built in charging is working! 😮 It's a Lumintop 14500 battery anyway. Maybe the Convoy flashlights a bit out of date, a bit chunky, but they are built like a Soviet tank: they are massive and you can fix it with minimal tools. 😂
