I think the next step for me would be to figure out what the goal is. Does he just want a place to showcase his photos or is trying to build a portfolio to get clients? After figuring out his goal he could focus on improving his photos by practicing different composition styles and experimenting with different subjects. If he likes nature and outdoor photography he could also experiment with taking photos at different times of day (golden hour, blue hour, or astrophotography). I hope this helps!!
