I've been working at a doggie daycare for over 3yrs now and everything she is saying is 100% correct! And you will think the worst part of the job is cleaning up the dog poop, but after a while you'll learn the worst part of the job is the barking!!! Just an update: I've been at my doggie daycare for 6yrs now 😏😁
@@Sol.trades I think the stance on them is the same that everybody has on them, and is that they're a great convenience and it's a blessing that that even exist. Kind of the same way in that of a kid's daycare.
There’s only a lot of barking when everyone is in their kennels at the beginning of the night time, yes it can be hard to deal with. I didn’t wear headphones just in case an emergency happened, but I had music playing on my phone or through a bluetooth speaker
I’ve been at a doggie daycare for about a month and I LOVE the job but man I wish I would’ve saw this video before hand to better prepare myself. I used my first check on comfy shoes, shorts and quick dry clothes lol it’s IMPORTANT and I often need a change of clothes if I’m going somewhere when I get off
I worked 8 years at 3 different pet resorts. Lots of nonsense and smoke and mirrors. The whole industry needs an upgrade in regulations, pay, and environment. Any questions, just ask. I've worked with over 3 thousand dogs and will answer any questions. I've been in every dog situation you can imagine. I had enough and quit a week ago after 5 years with the same resort. Demand more pay. Start a Union. Corporations that are buying out resorts, stay away from.
I have a question. I work at a doggy daycare, its part time about 30 hours a week and the hours & days off are steady. My shift starts at 2pm. Here's my issue, The doggy daycare will call me if there's not a lot of dogs and tell me "its slow today not many dogs, don't come in today". Does this happen? I'm asking because i didn't sign up to be working on-call.
I work at a doggie day camp and it's so much fun. I definitely enjoy it. It is a lot of work, but very rewarding. I'm wearing my orange HOODIE for fun in my room!
It is a lot of work but if you can read the dogs and prevent situations it because super fun for you and for all the dogs who can coexist together how they should
I just started at a doggy daycare/boarding facility.... I was so shocked when they told me to pick a pair of rain boots that fit me and put them on if I didnt want my sneakers soaked LOL. Note to self: invest in my own good rain boots because the flat bottoms KILLED me after just one day!
Hi just found this video! Thinking of working at. Dog daycare place. Can anyone confirm how much exercise I would get? Looking to become more fit. Thanks all!
You can make it to be very active if you wish! It’s standing the entire day and lots of walking! You could always constantly keep moving to increase your fitness! Good luck!
I love my doggie day camp job, sometimes I wish I had a little more energy to play with them and stuff, but I get tired real easily and even running around with them for a little bit or taking them up front to the parents has me gasping. I do a great job at what I do and I've been there for almost three years. I take vitamins, but it only works now and then. So I love days where it's real calm and the dogs aren't running around like maniacs, nearly running me over in the process. I'm young too 23 in fact and I should have a ton of energy, but I don't.
Miranda Moyer I was anemic for a while, but I've been taking iron pills and stuff,so I'm probably not anemic anymore, but it might be because I'm not eating as much and I've lost weight,I'm super skinny as it is though.
I work at a facility where they dont turn away any dog.. even the aggresive ones.. it's bad and the employees dont want to speak up because of fear of retaliation.. one person has already been fired for it..
That’s a really unfortunate and scary situation for all staff and pets in a facility. I hope things can get better. I’m sorry your management is like that, that’s not a good way to ever have people feel. You shouldn’t be afraid to suggest something that could protect employees and other pets
I'm about to start working at one, and I dont know WHY they allow aggressive dogs, like in my case you can tell management you're uncomfortable with a certain dog, but like why let aggressive dogs there in the first place
I’m not sure what you mean by “if they lick you” but you can normally run back and forth with them in the play rooms, if you want to. I don’t think most places would have you take them outside to run with them. My facility offered one on one walks for an extra fee, where I guess you could run with them if the animal wanted to.
The place I used to work at would hire high schoolers for the basic job of cleaning and leading the animals out to use the bathroom. I didn’t see it for myself, but I heard someone was fired because she would hit the animals. It’s sad to hear honestly. I also think my location wasn’t the best so it makes sense. Thankfully I hadn’t seen it for myself though.
It depends on the facility and what state you work in. Working at a doggy daycare can be dangerous when breaking up a dog fight and there is a lot of responsibility in taking care of animals. The facility that I worked at required you to be 18 years old to work there.
Nope! I just got a job at one, I am 18 and fresh out of high school, the only animal experience I have was a volunteer at an animal shelter. Some will prefer a year of kennel experience but I was hired without it!
I’m a week through training at a dog daycare and they were desperate for help. I found out why when I heard the hourly wage, and it’s part time so you don’t get benefits. That means you’re going to have mostly young people that don’t know any better and have crap work ethic. I’m getting to board my dogs for free while working so that’s the only reason why I’d work for 11$ an hour.
@@cnleiva ah yeah i did heàr about wages being low and people not getting 9-5 jobs bcs of that! and i just recently found out I'm mildly allergic to dogs so my plans have changed a bit 😕 thank you for replying
Guys i have a interview at Bow wow bungalow to become a dog handler at a doggy daycare center. I know it says on the job ad that experience is not really required , training is provided ....but im still nervous and never had a job as a handler before. I need advice. I have 3 days til my interview!!! I only have vet assistant experience.
Alexis Brewer omg same!! I have an interview next week at a pet hotel. The position will be dog handler. And I’m quite nervous about it. But I had done externship at an animal hospital, during that time I would clean the kennels from urine and poop. I would pet the animals, give them comfort. I could tell when a dog was on edge, and how to keep them from jumping on you. Even with all this knowledge it can still be scary when going out to work with animals.
I hope your interview went well! A lot of times they will train you, especially to how they would like you to work with the dogs. Sometimes if they have canine trainers on staff, you’ll get a lot of behavior and animal training experience!
I know you wrote this about 4 months ago, but I am going to put my response anyway for anyone who might be looking for an answer. If you are considering working at a doggy daycare as a handler and you are nervous, make sure you go in with a lot of confidence, but not cockiness. Let them know that you're inexperienced but that you are willing to learn.
Miranda Moyer im applying to a doggie daycare soon! im so nervous, i have no formal experience (unless you count training my own dogs!) but i am very excited!

How do you properly break up a dog fight?
By doing it calmly.
Do you wear earplugs. I would think all that barking must drive you nuts

Have you ever see staff lose control and abuse a dog?
Absolutely not
doesn't happen at GOOD daycares certainly wouldn't at the one I'm at
I’ve heard of one incident at my location, although the dog bit the handler first and then he kicked him.

How could I be more interactive with the dogs?
Playing follow the leader(I usually sing a made up song and have them all follow me. Using bubbles is fun and they love it.
How old do you have to be to get the job?
do you need any type of degree or experience to apply at a doggy daycare?
Nope! I just got a job at one, I am 18 and fresh out of high school, the only animal experience I have was a volunteer at an animal shelter. Some will prefer a year of kennel experience but I was hired without it!
