They just did what audience didn't want, but also it feels like the sequel is the most realistic continuation and true to the character of Arthur. He could never be a comicbook prince of crime, and when at the end he says that he is basically fed up with the act, people walk away from him, and this is a mirror to the audience, because after watching the first movie and entirety of the second one, learning who Arthur is, they still wanted him to be THE Joker, after all of what is shown and knowing that he puts on Joker as a mental armor, they still don't care for him and only want a theme park of carnage and killing as THE Joker. I'm not a big fan of this direction of the sequel maybe, and also i think he shouldnt've been singing but he should've been only dancing, singing ruins the style of his joker, takes away all the chilly mistery, but this is still the most realistic continuation. Agreed. We all shared in the fantasy at the cost of hurting innocence. The Mr. Puddles scene was the heart of the film. Arthur couldn’t be Joker anymore.
Here in Brazil, the Joker attracts a lot of people to the cinema, mainly because of its social commentary. Todd Phillips didn't realize that people already knew the Joker was a villain, but the social critiques in the film were interesting and important. However, he chose to shield himself from a toxic culture. But that toxic culture ends up taking over anything, even *The Matrix*. It's mistake after mistake.

The Marvels cost $400m and its box office total was $200m. Joker 2 cost $200m so if it makes $100m total the Marvels is still the worst blockbuster ever made.

Who would be thought that creating a sequel to throw the audience's support for the original would jeopardise your box office. As Rachel Zegler would say, *"WEIRD!"*
Last Jedi was praised by the critics, but was largely hated by fans, that’s not debatable. Yes it reached a billion, largely on the goodwill of the Force Awakens, but it clearly set the ball rolling on diminishing returns for Star Wars projects ever since. Disney Star Wars, whether you like it or not, is not where it should be from a financial/profitability standpoint. I’ve never seen an IP more grossly mishandled.
That simply doesn't track. Online chatter doesn't equal fandom consensus. It made a billion dollars and so did Rise of Skywalker. If goodwill was the engine that drove Last Jedi to a billion, then Rise of Skywalker should have been a flop and it obviously wasn't. Fandom speaks with box office, not social media.
The Star Wars fans took out their disappointment and other feelings on _Solo,_ and mainstream audiences didn't show up either. Of course after establishing _Star Wars_ as something to see at Christmas, they don't open _Solo_ at that time. And I think the movie _Jumani: Welcome to the Jungle_ functioned as an alternative to seeing a disappointing Star Wars movie another time.

Also this is the directors creative direction, not the actors. This is why sections of your audience and others don't take you seriously.
I think the problem with Salem’s lot is that the marketing makes it look like a serious film. Watched Salem's Lot last night. It was already on my agenda but moved it up on my what to watch list after Grace's review. It was a really good movie and I can see why Grace loved it. But if I am being honest there were a couple of obvious plot details that didn't line up or didn't ever come to fruition. So I can see why a critic would take off points sort to speak. It is almost like someone just said just put it on Max and don't worry about the editing and reshoots. Still, not bad all as the RT scores may lead you to believe and definitely worth watching as Grace has already said. About to watch Grace's other recommendation from a week ago Apartment 7A. Horror for breakfast!!!
Clearly, I am not in the mainstream. The cinematography and performances, alone, make for a unique and worthwhile experience. Meanwhile, safe, by-the-books, standard CGI fare never gets lambasted to this degree. Proves it's not always worthwhile, in today's world, to take big swings and run the risk of coming up short. Francis Ford Coppola's wallet would probably agree.
Can you do a mini review of the Netflix film It’s What’s Inside ? I’m really curious about your thoughts on the film. It’s marketed as a scifi psychological thriller it was released on Friday.
Joker 2 to me is a perfect example of what happens when a movie that was clearly intended to be a one-off gets a sequel, & frankly to me this is what happens when capitalism doesn’t work

grace, i liked the dream musical sequences but the moonlight rooftop serenade made me think it was foreshadowing them escaping together and wreaking havok on the town, that would have been a fun movie, instead they didn't have a good escape and he got punished inside the prison system, which made for not a fun movie going experience, if i want to experience prison, i will go there

@Grace Randolph. You stating Gaga will not find work in Hollywood films is ridiculous. Majority of actors in Hollywood have starred in flukes. She's not the first one . Also this is the directors creative direction, not the actors. This is why sections of your audience and others don't take you seriously.
She can turn it around of course but she is not an established actress. This was a chance to become a household name and it just didn’t happen.
@@Kiros-e8y Gaga is already a household name. What do you mean?
@@kevinlove6974 not in movies. She will be fine though, she got good press. But I’m sure she thought it’d be triumphant and it sure isn’t.
Alright Grace, I'm doing my homework tonight and watching Salem's Lot!!!
I am a fan of the 80s mini and it was fun to see how they would update it. And I loved the atmosphere and the glowing crosses
Thank you for another stream Grace
I think the problem with Salem’s lot is that the marketing makes it look like a serious film. But the effects (complete with floating and crawling cgi vampires) and the silly dialogue, make it very silly. I thought it was fun, it did what it came to do. So I enjoyed it. But if you went in expecting a serious movie, you will be disappointed.
That's great that they might do a Princess Diaries 3. But The Devil Wears Prada 2! I'm so excited for this one more. Meryl Streep has got to return. She was so good in that one. I loved that movie.
I’ve been gifted a membership🎉. So excited. Thanks to my benefactor which may well be Grace herself!❤
Grace has the little diabolical look when she talks about the joker 2
Elevator pitch. "Now hear me out. Madam Web vs. the Joker and Harley Quinn. I just can't figure out if it's going to be Madame Web 2 or Joker 3."
I just watched Salem's Lot......amazing. loved it!
YES we're here for Lindsay Lohan!! love her
Critics must be soooo happy that audiences agree once 😅
Aline Brosh McKenna being back as the writer is a very encouraging thing about Prada 2, beyond having the quality cast back of course.
Joker 2 for me personally didn’t do enough for me to hate it but it also didn’t do enough for me to love it. I think it’s just a very alright movie with a bunch of missed potential
Didnt need to do a sequel....greed can backfire
the sad thing is it could have worked
Just how much out there could the new glasses be that you're still not comfortable wearing them over a year later?
I enjoyed Salem's Lot too. It really put me in the Halloween sprit.
Emperor’s new groove and a goofy movie are my favorite Disney movies
I thought mike flanagan did a good job at midnight mass. But midnight mass is basically a copy of salem's lot.
Grace, will you be reviewing THE WILD ROBOT? I just saw my second screening and I bawled both times-such a poignant, moving film with a simple story. Hope it wins “Best Animated Feature” at the Oscars!
So I'm having a busy week and I'm only gotten to watch the first half an hour or so of this movie but I have to agree with you Grace so far what I've seen has me drooling and salivating to get back to finish watching the film. When you said it was getting bad ratings in the beginning of this segment My jaw dropped because I thought I was looking forward to watching a bad ending, which Ken ruin a movie. But it's a relieve to hear you say that you like the rest of the movie now I can get back to looking forward to watching the rest of it
Flash having a better score than Joker 2 isn't that bizarre since The Flash actually put not just 1 Batman but freaking 3 of 'em 😂
Hi Grace. Missed most of the discussion but I’m watching it now. I’m happy because one more month to have my new badge ❤
Good stream today. I saw Joker 2 for my Birthday. It’s tomorrow, but I went to the fan event. Thought it was really good and dark with some nicely staged action. I’m glad there won’t be a third, though. But there’s been so many good Joker performances over the decades.
Joker fucking sucks
I’m glad someone enjoyed it.
@@TrixieMatteI I think plenty are enjoying it.
@@j2174the audience score is literally in the 30s??
The movies got a whole hate train huh what elese You expect @@ghostin3274
Well silver lining Grace, Salem’s Lot is coming to cinemas in the UK so not straight to streaming here.
I was always going to watch Salem’s Lot but your excitement for it makes me intrigued!
Me and a bunch of my family members were going to see Joker 2 on Thursday but as bad news kept coming out, we thought we would wait until Saturday but news just got worse so ended deciding to skip it altogether.
Europe doesn't highlight communities of color? Have you watched English and French movies of the past 20 years ?
Haven't seen it yet but if you think the problem was in the editing room, is it possible that somehow all the Gaga that they cut would have been the magic and basically they just ****ed themselves?? So sad, I like her as an actress but it's like she has the Madonna movie curse.
I saw this coming years ago when they casted Gaga and it was revealed that it would be a musical.
Past tense of "cast" is "cast". I feel like an arse writing this, but it's sent with the best intentions.
I see so many people use "casted", but it's simply not correct.
She’s literally the best part of the movie, so no it’s not her fault
No worries, English is not my first language, so I don't mind being educated by someone.
@@kingslayer1887 I feel even more like an arse now, haha. Your English is incredible and ignore my pedantry (that's a new and useless word for you to not use haha)
Peace ✌️
Devil Wears Prada 2 with returning cast would be fierce and funny 😂
Grace with Joker 2 as u always say 'put ur business hat on' which Todd and Joaquin seemed to hav no interest in..
This whole thing of studios coming up with successful movies and then letting creatives make whatever they want for a follow-up like WW 84, Joker 2 and others makes me nervous about The Batman 2.
Just goes to show that these franchise movies need actual fans behind the scenes. Look at Shawn Levy and Deadpool 3.
I love joy ride so much. I bought it the moment I finished watching it in theaters. It’s sooooo funny
I think Gaga is a good actor. Her role selection has not been good though.
I just want to know what the $200 million was spent on
White lines I guess.
Can you do a mini review of the Netflix film It’s What’s Inside ? I’m really curious about your thoughts on the film. It’s marketed as a scifi psychological thriller it was released on Friday.
Stephanie Hsu was just in Nobody Wants This! Great actor
Joker 2 to me is a perfect example of what happens when a movie that was clearly intended to be a one-off gets a sequel, & frankly to me this is what happens when capitalism doesn’t work
i just saw joker and my theater was packed lol
Hope it makes it's money back, many people poured their best into it.
The second weekend drop is gonna be crazy, BvS levels of bad.
@@david88464 You didn't even see it.
@@j2174did he tell you?
Fans will hate Gladiator 2 the same way they hated Joker 2.
I think the gladiator 2 will be so loved. Why? Because of Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal
@@lindaarrigoni6737 i already hate it because of those 2 and i hope it fails
I watch hocus pocus multiple times every year during the Halloween season, but I never want to see hocus pocus 2 again.
I guess if you never read the novel or watch the Tobe Hooper version, this new one is going to like it.
And so many scenes from the salem slot miniseries, we're used for so many other horror movies after it. Including one parody scene in the buffy, the vampire slayer. The movie. Talking about hilarious that was hilarious. Lol
Looks like salams lot is going to the cinemas in the UK from next Friday 😊
saw it last night. don't bother. it has 'straight to dvd' vibes. thank me later.
Alarms lot was a good streaming movie. And they managed to make the ending fresh
Salems lot
Good job review!
Once I heard it was a musical I checked out lol I’ll wait for it to stream
I liked the second film and want to see it again. It’s so sad 😢
Absolutely no reason why this should have cost $200 million.
So happy you’re watching Interview with a vampire! Let us know what you think and especially when you get to season 2
grace, i liked the dream musical sequences but the moonlight rooftop serenade made me think it was foreshadowing them escaping together and wreaking havok on the town, that would have been a fun movie, instead they didn't have a good escape and he got punished inside the prison system, which made for not a fun movie going experience, if i want to experience prison, i will go there
Can you do a mini review for heartstopper S3?
Making a musical out of this.. is like making Barbie into an action movie 🤣
did the higher ups tell the director to not have joker lead another movement and break out because they didn't want joker riots in the streets during the election?
I enjoyed Salem's lot, too.... It plays like salem's lot greatest hits. It's at its strongest when it veers away from source material.
I watched them both. Hocus Pocus 1 and 2. I just recently watched Hocus Pocus 2. 💚🖤🧡
Grace, the original Salems Lot is one of the scariest movies ever!!!🫣🫣🫣The kid at the bedroom window!!!!!
Also read that Joaquin felt that Gaga's performance Upstaged him so much that he insisted most of her scenes were cut.
And I bet those were the scenes that would have made this a blockbuster 😢 what a waste
Really that's incredibly stupid and small minded if its true.
You're making this up
Definitely heard that. Butchered in editing.
That's not true. Also, an actor does not have that level of power over a director and a studio. Let's not make things up.
Why is anyone surprised Todd Philips bungled up the Hangover sequel. He’s just not a consistent filmmaker. He never has been.
