Some of you are not getting the point… this scene is a critique/parody of how people in pop media industries will spit out pointless jargon - saying it’s a shame that the old proposal didn’t work out rather than addressing the current issue - and are then applauded for it for “seeing both sides”. Looking at who the people working on the show are, as well as many of the other themes in the show, I seriously doubt this is a scene that’s meant to be taken as a reflection of the crew’s genuine opinion. With that said… it is horribly depressing and unfortunate how poorly this has aged over the past 9 years since the season dropped. The western world really hand waved the issue until it smacked them in the face. #freepalestine🇵🇸
Also, I don't know that this was intentional, but the whole "Arafat walked away from the table" thing is a famous US media canard too; it's one of those things people commonly say on US TV that is actually misleading; the negotiations continued at Taba in a much more serious way the following January (and ultimately it was incoming Sharon who closed them!). The biggest tragedy is probably that the Camp David talks didn't take place along the more serious lines that the ensuing Taba talks did, when there would have been time to iron out the details Think I'd probably be reading into it far too much to think that was intentional by the writers though 😅
The point of view bojack has in this scene is perfectly reasonable, Arafat clearly didn't actually want peace and he did walk away from the Camp David Summit. He refused to ever give up the right of return and was just trying to get as many Israeli concessions as he could. Also saying that the old proposal didn't work out is a valid complaint and addresses more about the current issue than you have especially considering that the proposal in question was a proposal to hopefully prevent anything like the current situation. You seem to have a very childish understanding of the situation, it's not very difficult to find out information on this conflict. You can form your own opinion if you want to, You don't have to copy every one you see on social media. Can you give me one way this video aged poorly

It seems like you at least want to understand the situation and have done a little bit of research which is commendable. Your assessment of Camp David and the Taba summit are a bit off though, I'm sure you won't disagree that Arafat did walk away from Camp David after refusing to compromise. The Taba summit is a bit more interesting because at a glance you would assume it was Israel's fault the negotiations didn't end in a deal. There are lots of issues with this once you look at it a bit deeper, one of the primary issues being that the Palestinian negotiators completely rejected the foundation of the Israeli offer and they even rejected Yossi Sarid's proposal which by all accounts went above and beyond what was expected of Israel in an attempt to "split the burden". The Taba summit ended because the Israeli elections were coming up and the Palestinian negotiators had rejected everything that had been proposed for them. Of course Sharon didn't start negotiations again once he got in, the Palestinians had shown no interest in a deal and it wasn't like Israel had infinite political will to continue negotiations with uninterested interlocutors.
The most unrealistic thing about this is everyone being satisfied about it. I'm pretty sure there are those on both sides who get outraged even if the answer was a 2 state solution.

The funny thing is, I witnessed something like this happen once. My friend was screening his indie film at his alma mater reunion. I’d been an exchange student there and happened to be passing through, so I had gone along to watch it. The film has nothing to do with Israel or Palestine. After the film, there was a Q&A with the director (my friend) and the producer. And a member of the audience decided to ask an irrelevant question about the Israeli-Palestinian tensions. My friend did his best to answer, but the person who asked the question didn’t like the response, got really offended, and started yelling. While I didn’t agree with my friend’s view point, it was so unfair for the audience member to have hijacked the event like that. It was also so awkward for everyone else.

If you're wanting a real answer from said people you're either very charitable and willing to discuss extensively and be understanding you may not like their answer or unhinged and rotted in the head wanting only your side to be right.
If you actually know anything about the conflict this scene is absolutely gold. Bojack is a real expert at PR, a real politician with how he can basically say nothing and make everyone happy.
It's what Clinton was saying for years, but it's not really backed by the other people at the meetings. "Shlomo Ben-Ami, then Israel's Minister of Foreign Relations who participated in the talks, stated that the Palestinians wanted the immediate withdrawal of the Israelis from the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem, and only subsequently the Palestinian authority would dismantle the Palestinian organizations. The Israeli response was "we can't accept the demand for a return to the borders of June 1967 as a pre-condition for the negotiation."[50] In 2006, Shlomo Ben-Ami stated on Democracy Now! that "Camp David was not the missed opportunity for the Palestinians, and if I were a Palestinian I would have rejected Camp David, as well. This is something I put in the book. But Taba is the problem. The Clinton parameters are the problem" referring to his 2001 book Scars of War, Wounds of Peace: The Israeli-Arab Tragedy.[51]" So Bojack stops the timeline at 2000 and claims Arafat walked away. Talks actually continued into 2001 and Israel refused to accept a return to internationally recognized borders and an end of the illegal occupation as a precondition to peace talks.

Egypt and Jordan propped up Palestinian puppet states after invading Israel and supported insurgent activity. By no means does this justify mistreatment of Palestineans by Israeli forces, but neither does this justify the Palestinean anti-semitism and ethno-nationalistic fervor that demands the exile of Jewish families rooted in Israel for nearly 80 years. The only solution to prevent escalation is that international peacekeeping forces remain in this region and have demilitarized demarcations to resist any further incursions by belligerent foreign forces then bring the various factions together to discuss and even just scream their anger and hatred out at one another.
Spot on🎯 There's no way this is suppsed to be taken as an insight, the show's proven to be way too smart for that
Also, I don't know that this was intentional, but the whole "Arafat walked away from the table" thing is a famous US media canard too; it's one of those things people commonly say on US TV that is actually misleading; the negotiations continued at Taba in a much more serious way the following January (and ultimately it was incoming Sharon who closed them!). The biggest tragedy is probably that the Camp David talks didn't take place along the more serious lines that the ensuing Taba talks did, when there would have been time to iron out the details
Think I'd probably be reading into it far too much to think that was intentional by the writers though 😅

I read your comment before I posted mine, my comment was aimed at OP because it seems like they aren't trying to understand the situation at all any just want to virtue signal.

It's an algorithm, people are searching up topics like "israel and palestine conflict" what do you think there's some guy sitting at his desk recommending videos to people?😂
That was a massive nothing answer.
that was literally the point??? did we watch the same video
@@korobeinikiechelon3264 he is either from israil or palastine... both sides want u to side with them only...thats why nothing gets solved
@@korobeinikiechelon3264 that was not the point also
to everyone saying this aged like fine wine the conflict has been going on for many years, do some research.
Yes, genocidal occupation of Palestine by illegal settlers of "israel" have been going on for many years
@deptusmechanikus7362 it's more complicated than that - this has been going on for decades, and it sounds like you just learned about it because it's trending on social media.
This came back up on the RUclips algorithm at a very odd time didn't it
Yeah pretty interesting timing
Hi guys weird how we’re here rn huh
I can't tell if this has aged poorly or perfectly
Aged poorly? Definitely
But considering Bojack is just repeating the same non answer very politician says to avoid taking a side, and the fact that the conflict has endlessly continued because politicians refuses to do anything about it is quite on point.
in 2003 alan dershowitz said the two state solution was "inevitable".
@@patrick4662 I’ll trust the word of Alan Dershowitz after about two bottles of Absinthe. The Two-State solution was possible a long time ago, but not after the past two decades of slaughter under Likud control.
Even if we up all decided to just sign a paper agreeing to a two state solution, Israel will just harass the Palestinian state the same way it harasses Jordan, Iran, Egypt, and Lebanon. Gaza and the West Bank will forever be viewed as lost territory Israel wants, and since Israel is a nuclear power and has the strongest military in the region, Palestine won’t be able to do much.
@@kaptainkooleioI think it aged fine. It more pokes fun at how people will ask silly questions like this to people who probably don't want to involve themselves on the topic, and how a nonanswer although silly is probably better unless he wants to kick people out all the time.
@@kaptainkooleioAgreed. Reminds me of the Russia situation. Putin is fighting because if he doesn't Russia is essentially completely doomed. If Hamas doesn't fight Palestine is completely done for. It's all or nothing.
I think many are missing the point of the whole scene. Unless I'm remembering wrong I don't think diane wrote anything political in bojacks book outside domestic issues she might have rambled about. This stuff happens to people who have no involvement with the issue, non-answers are given all the time, and small ironic details like an israeli and Palestinian standing next to each other by a war solutions shelf. Bojacks a horrible person but even he's not going to walk into a rake like an idiot.
Asking a question like this is so horrible because it's easy to make someone look bad for "picking a side" without going into a whole history course on the matter. A normal person doesn't go up to people and wonder "damn what would robin williams or lebron think of this situation". If you're wanting a real answer from said people you're either very charitable and willing to discuss extensively and be understanding you may not like their answer or unhinged and rotted in the head wanting only your side to be right.
*that's the joke
timely recommendation
The Clinton parameters are the problem" referring to his 2001 book Scars of War, Wounds of Peace: The Israeli-Arab Tragedy.[51]"
So Bojack stops the timeline at 2000 and claims Arafat walked away. Talks actually continued into 2001 and Israel refused to accept a return to internationally recognized borders and an end of the illegal occupation as a precondition to peace talks.
technically his answer would only make one side happy- but it’s the side that you’re supposed to make happy so it goes unnoticed .
he places the blame on arafat for walking away from the table, without the further context it ignores why he walked away from the table.
Eh, wouldn't say he said nothing, he's advancing a mild but popular pro-Israel sentiment.
Very interesting algorithm today

Who are you talking to?

What in the world RUclips? Why now?
Out of all the times to be recommended this 😆
Thanks everyone for pushing this to the top of RUclips’s recommendation to push on to everyone else like jeez
After all the things that's happening recently RUclips is recommending me anything related to isreal and or Palestine, thanks RUclips.
*Yet you still clicked. You shall get more.*
Ahh... the algorithm
Well, well, well…if isn’t the YT algorithm striking again.
You gotta admire how the hebrew and the palestine guy were standing very pacifically next to each other until they turned around to hear Bojack's statement (and even then they both directed their rage at him instead than at each other)
Yes thank you RUclips algorithm, very funny
Of course RUclips is recommending this to me now lmao
The algorithm has provided
RUclips just now recommending me this video lol
for the people who don’t know this show, bojack is a celebrity and also a terrible person. he answered it the way most celebrities and politicians have answered it. bojack is a depiction of these people. disgusting but very accurate.
@user-pn5mn6mv3cyes which is why i said he is a depiction of real life politicians and celebrities. i have also watched this show many times.
@user-pn5mn6mv3cit’s not diplomatically nothing. it is an answer in favor of israel & puts blame that should be on israel on arafat. you are not immune to propaganda.
free palestine
Free gems in Clash Royale!
This has aged rather well/poorly.
RUclips algorithm is getting better and better.
Hey there algorithm
This didn't age well
The thing is Palestinians agreed to a two state solution even tho it’s THEIR own state.. and the Israelis still fucked things up
when
Arafat litteraly initiated an Intifada to block the Oslo accords. There are Israeli peace activists who publicly talk about it, but Palestinians are affraid from other Palestinians. How come?
they never agreed and it was never their state
Yes yes nothing like a little bit of fake news
@@Funnystrongman Probably against my better judgement, I'll actually answer your question....
selena gomez ????
Convenient timing for RUclips to recommend me this video
IKR😭
RUclips: "Hey you should watch this"
Me: "Oh because I like Bojack Horseman but haven't watch it for good while?"
RUclips: looks away for a second* "Sure, why not"
This feels weird now
bojack no bojack stop!!! staying neutral is equivalent to picking the side of the oppressor bojack noooooooooooo
I mean, he's Bojack. He already manipulated women and overpowered them.
he’s bojack horseman
Arafat didn’t walk away from the table in 2000 tho.. he rejected an insultingly small peace offer which did not coincide whatsoever with what Palestinians are guaranteed under international law.
You’re absolutely right and you are also going to get this comments section disabled if you make this about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and not Bojack’s wacky antics
(Also to be perfectly fair the Palestinians were using incredibly bellicose rhetoric in the lead up to and during the talks, which sabotaged public support for peace on both the Israeli and Palestinian sides, but you’re correct that the only viable peace deal, the 1967 borders with one for one land swaps to allow for community developments since then, was never even close to the negotiating table in 2000)
@@sammosaurusrex very true I’ll take my gripes elsewhere I just thought it was funny that the Palestinian supporter would have been placated by the most banal post hawk justification by the Barack faction for why the negotiation fell though.. bojack might as well have says that Palestinians never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity
@Jinx Vanderz firstly I would like to point out that I did try to drop it but these ethno nationalists won’t let me…
Ok here we go. why is the default position in your framing what little Israel was willing to concede? And not what Palestinians are legally initialed to?
The Palestinians were willing to make massive concessions. They just weren’t good enough and didn’t align with what Israel wanted. The Israelis offered exactly 0 concessions when you understand this framing issue. There’s a pretty good breakdown of this by Norman finkelstein on democracy now in a debate with a former Israeli cabnit minister
To use an analogy to explain..
This dishonest framing the same as saying that a parent is unwilling to compromise with their toddler because they won’t let them eat ice cream for dinner. Like your framing the issue from the the child’s perspective.. and even then the parent was willing to let you have a cookie but only after you ate all your vegetables
@Jinx Vanderz Norman says it much more eloquently than I can ruclips.net/video/TUfrLVXg6TM/видео.html
@@RPLUNKETT94 If you want a legal framework then Palestine is an illegitimate state that was not officially granted any land. They demanded all of the State of Palestine and denied Britain's independence deal. If Israel crushed the Palestinean government it would just be exactly what Britain had allowed back in 48. Eventually after the childish bickering perhaps the less warhawkish, cooler heads will prevail in talks and at least admit violence and hatred is not a solution. Hell, start bringing Imams and Rabbis to the tables to preach to the politicians and guilt them. Use whatever psychological tactics have a chance to work to even slightly reduce violence and conflict.
I can't imagine why this got recommended to me now of all times
Gee, I wonder why this is suddenly trending again
I wonder why RUclips recommended this to me right now, in October of 2023
