The Samurai or the Shaolin warriors, The Korean Hwarang-Do were very good as well.
Vikings were not as good as ny other warriors of the time. They were beaten by the Irish and the Saxons when they stopped fighting internecine wars and banded together to fight the vikings.
If anything it was the sneaky vikings who the most successful the unscrupulous ones who broke there vows etc etc and anyone can do that.
Vikings were cowardly lowlifes. Not as brave as this video would make them out.
I think samurais were amazing warriors, I dont think the best, but I would argue Miyamoto Musashi would be one of the greatest warriors of all time.

I'm not sure if us Finns really were vikings in similar fashion as Scandinavians but I do know that there has been found more viking swords in Finland than in Denmark and we're just finding more and more. It's also a fact that Finnish tribes raided Sweden and other nearby countries. We also did lots of trade with Scandinavians and Novgorodians.

@@meginna8354 Finns were never vikings (because only norse seafarers can be called vikings) but did basically same things, just in a smaller scale and focused more on trade than raiding (even though Finns did raid Novgorod, Sweden and possibly other places a lot around years 1000-1200)

@@meginna8354 No, I'm referring to Karelian and Tavastian tribes. If I remember right, Savonians and Bjarmians raided norse tribes and Novgorod at some point too. And yes, most tribal peoples raided during the viking age. Viking means nothing more than a seafarer/raider.
The vikings did not have horned helmets
No they didn’t have horns on their helmets. That was made up after the vikings time.
Nor were they hulking brutes. Real vikings were incredibly average in build.

@@aubreyreed5046 Horned helmets most certainly existed, although during the Scandinavian bronze age. If they were in use it was likely for ceremonial use. However I think that archaeologists are sometimes overly obsessed with practicality in their analyses; meanwhile modern man keeps using poorly designed tools and inventions which I'm sure future archaeologists will say could never have been used in a practical sense.

Viking on skis were a real thing. They were called birkebeiner or "birch feet". It allowed them to traverse long distances during the winter quickly and quietly.

@@seal3427 they did have them if they could afford them. If they couldn't then they'd use cheaper armor like gambesons. Regarding helmet, they would always prioritize it over chainmail. If your history is as bad as your grammar I'm really concerned. Also yes, in the late viking age, most of them would quit going "viking" and focus more on trade.

@@seal3427 any sources you can direct me to? "Hide" armor sounds pretty dumb honestly, hide and leather don't offer as much protection as a gambeson or just thick clothing. Also rich vikings would have a full set of gambeson, chainmail, helmet, sword, spear, axe and seaxe, and of course a shield. You saying "did not use nothing but hide armor and a helmet" doesn't make any sense at all. They used to attack less defended targets but they still liked to stay alive so it really makes no sense for them to only use "hide" armor. They weren't savages, they didn't dress like in movies, they used brightly coloured clothes and were particularly clean for the standards of the time. Again, show me your sources, and I'll admit I was wrong and you were right.
btw "hide" is organic matter, it decomposes with the passing of the years, so I doubt there's any in museums. The only viking pieces of armor you can find in museums are chainmail and helmets

Swedish vikings where in Finland. Finland was only a province back then and later on unite the rest of the tribes there. But thats why its named Finland and not some other name cause it all started there

Finland was not the entire country as it is today, back then it was a small part in the southern region and there vikings lived there ofcourse some of the finno-ugric people to, my point is there where alot of vikings there so old Finland is very related to vikings. One thing that was semi-recently discovered was that Viking warriors often used weapons made from primitive steel. I'm sure not all, but many groups would collect the bones of particularly fierce enemies that had been slain and would sometimes add the bone into the forging process in hopes of infusing the weapon with some of the fallen warriors ferocity and skill. What this really did was infuse some carbon into the weapon, strengthening the iron a bit which helps quite a lot.

As a side note, aside from just their incredibly advanced steel, their ships were far ahead of their time allowing them to travers almost any situation whilst remaining sturdy, and to boost their sailing skills they had an amazing ability of navigation which let them time their raids and locations in their advantage.

That's average some we're taller some we're shorter just like today. The average Danish Viking was only 5'7, the average Norwegian Viking was 5'6 to 5'8 and the Swedes also known as Rus were the tallest of the bunch at 5'10 and up

Actually, the Solutrians were here millennia before that. The so-called Clovis and Folsom projectile points look just like the Euro ones from the same era - 10-13.5K years back. They didn't seem to leave much in the way of genetic presence among current Native Americans, but the overall population was pretty sparse back then.

I think it had to do with all the missionaries who came and preached about Christianity and its benefits of trade and cooperation with most parts of Europe until the idea took hold and began to spread throughout the country.
Because the vikings ended up ruling all of europe and there was nobody left to fight.

As a Swede and a practioner of the Asatro, the "viking" religion i can say that the religion itself never was violent, we had our ways of sacrifice but most of the religion is about nature and spirits, there were the ulfhednars and beserkers who were known as beasts from nature but thats pretty much it. Norway and Denmark were more into the fighting meanwhile Sweden was like the viking jerusalem, we didn't fight as much and were more into religion, spirit and nature. Thats why Uppsala, the viking jerusalem is in sweden, because we were the most spiritual. But war is in every relgion, Christians preach love and peace yet they go to war and still do today. It's my opinion mixed with some facts, just wanted to share :)

The viking era and culture was many things; Some positive things, but also extremely brutal compared to the christian values we have today. Vikings lived by "an eye for an eye", which is barbaric and totally unheard of in Norway today.

I'm not of nordic descent but I know Finland was not part of viking culture. Only Norway, Denmark, and Sweden were. As far as I know the raiders towards west (England, France, Mediterranean lands) were mostly from Norway and Denmark while the raiders toward the east (Finland, Russia, Balkan lands) were from Sweden. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure Finland had different culture and gods and they were also raided by vikings. Iceland was inhabited by vikings later on and didn't have human population before that.
you are right, only denmark, norway and sweden were vikings, BUT norway was the country that had the vikings that most People reconize today. They were the ones who raided the English coast and were called satans work by the englishmen. Denmark i know mastered how to make beatufiul boats whilst sweden had more vikings clashes in their own country. Actually Finland didnt have vikings, but vikings raided and traided with them, the vikings that traveled down the Volga river and such in Russia were mostly Swedish
Finland was basically russia
The Western area of Finland today (Ostrobothinia) was synonymous with Sweden and the people there were Swedish/Finns and had Vikings combatants. The Viking who ruled Novgorod in Russia was Rurik and his DNA results are most similar to the people who live in this area to this day. Also the word Russia some believe comes from this same group of Vikings who would of spoke Old Finnish/Norse dialect and Russia could of been named after the word for Sweden which in Finnish today is Ruotsi.

I'd say the Finns were more trade companions than victims of raids, Finns would have been valuable to the Swedish traders when moving east since Finns would better be able to speak with some of the tribes along the Volga due to the difference between Slavic and Germanic language families.

The national boats in my country, the Faroe Islands, are still built the same way as our viking ancestors built them. And many boats that compete in the annual rowing races are fitted with the dragon's head bow. Faroe Islanders are the best in the world at rowing because the tradition has been kept alive since viking times :)

@@cassandrawinther Not the danish language but Old Norse. Old Norse does not exist anymore but Norwegian Nynorsk, Icelandic and Faroese is the closest to Old Norse. OId Norse influenced the English language.

But yes aswel, They created stew from a highly poisonous mushroom found mostly in Norway and Denmark Wich they gave to warriors to send them into a Brutal rage making them more or less loose control for a short period of time, screaming shouting and attacking anything they could get they're hands on, it was more or less a suicide scare tactic, most of the vikings eating the stew would die either from the battle or the poison during or after the battle.
