It's not just a matter of being priced out of South Florida. Let's face it, the place sucks hard. There is definitely a push factor to get the hell out of Miami and yes rising costs and low pay are definitely the main factor but that's not just it. The city as a whole has never made it a priority to retain talent because there is no industry other than luxury real estate and money laundering. The city does not invest in it's outdated infrastructure like Metro Rail so that maybe they can improve the mass transit system with traffic clogged highways. You can also have your unbearable sweltering heat for 10 months out of the year. There is hardly an incentive for younger educated people to stay in Miami. Now the rush is to push as many low and middle income people out of the area. Well then you tell me who's going to fix the aging plumbing or the street lights. Miami really does not have a future because the people running that town into the ground do not value it's year round citizens so this is the end result. Keep handing the place over to developers and keep bleeding everyone out and see where that gets you. All my roots are in Dade county; I'm born and raised there but I never felt attached to the place. Get out of Miami and head for the hills and make sure they don't follow you to your new location.

Why would anyone buy a house for one or two million that's been built at 1920s 1940s no way.

Sooner or later 50% of the Florida population would be homeless, I've moved here from Arizona 4 months ago thinking Florida was a better place for people to live in but come to find out Florida was the most expensive and unaffordable state in the country, I was paying $900 for a One bedroom apartment in Arizona and now I'm paying $1700 for one bedroom apartment in Florida.

Floridians can always move to Iowa or West Virginia, some of the more affordable rent in the whole country. can't control people with money moving to FL. Either deal with it or move out. You cant always get what you want in life.

Do the math. If the rent continues to rise at this same rate per year, the ENTIRE STATE of Florida (not just Miami) will be more expensive to rent than anywhere in California. Run the numbers and use the same percentage of increase per year we are seeing now. We're going to catch up real quick and we're going to surpass California's rental prices. Never in my life did I think Florida would be more expensive than California, especially because Florida wages are extremely lower than California wages.

2:20 home owners insurance is a big problem. It’s too expensive and landlords are gonna price based on that too

You live where you can afford you don't get to live where you want. Miami is prime real estate but it isn't something everyone will be able to afford.
