You should watch DNA dance practice. Or Danger dance practice. They are both really good.
Great reaction. Of course there are many things you will miss because you're not Korean and don't know Korean. There is so much hidden wordplay and double meaning in BTS music. You'd have no way of knowing these unless a Korean explained it to you. And they have to be fluent in the language and culture to understand it themselves. This is one big reason fans are impressed with BTS lyric play because it's usually very deep. Not the title tracks so much. But the songs the members wrote, especially the rappers. Glad to see you learning. Don't worry if you don't understand some things. No one expects you too. It's not your culture.
Rule of thumbs with BTS: the more fun a song looks like, the more political it is. They are hiding the serious topic behind funny choreography. 😁 You know, that's what every single Army is trying to explain to everybody. BTS never "just sings". There's always a meaning to what they write and produce with rare exceptions like the few love songs they have. I wish I could make people understand this without the need of turning them into an Army first... 😁

To be fair, as they were starting from a small company and trying to make a name as serious artists in an idol community, they had to deal with A LOT of crap from a whole slew of different people in the beginning, especially the guys in the rap line. And even now, there are people who specifically target them unfairly for no real reason other than maybe jealousy or spite. Yet, they're still breaking and making records and being successful. So yeah, they do tend to throw a bit (or a lot) of shade in some of their songs.
You said it well. I'd like to add that early on BTS vocal was told by many that they didnt sing well. In fact some people said that V could only growl not sing.
Jungkook went on a variety show called Masked singer to prove them wrong. And he killed it! No one could believe it was him.

The app I'm using now is Memrise and does do both. The Korean alphabet, word and sentence structures are really hard for me to learn.

The meaning of Baepsae was one of the reasons I fell in love with them. Not only did they make songs about self-love and mental health, they also made these political statements in some of their songs (GOGO is one of them too but it doesn't appear so at first glance), and I absolutely love it.

The BTS's song have a metaphor or dual meaning. But your language, culture n environment are different from them. Song of society and anti are sometimees necessary to explain. So you need explainations to know their lyrics. It's so sad. But that song is so cool, is'n it?
