You don't need to explain to ANYONE why you're leaving anywhere. Just do it, go, and be happy. I'm one of the original nomads, don't like the grass growing under my feet too long and left the UK in 1987 for Canada, then moved on to the US and moved to Central Europe 7 years ago. Not done moving yet...life's too short to live in one place.

I left the UK for 6 months. That was in 2004. I never came back.
20 years on and I doubt I'll ever live in Britain again, particularly as its got even worse in that time. I've lived in many countries, some bad (Philippines, Qatar, India) and some great (Vietnam, South Korea, Singapore, Costa Rica). And I've seen enough to know there's much better than Britain out there. I wish it wasn't the case, but the UK is being left behind.
    All the best.

So very true, immensely sad to see the state my home country is in, but the sad reality of poor governmental oversight on so many levels. Sad thing is, the USA is worse based on population density and healthcare (lived there 30years). And now, I see Australia heading down the slippery slope copying both in so many ways.

    • @JohnHarthomstowCEO
      @JohnHarthomstowCEO 3 месяца назад +1

@@Basman59 Yes, sadly my friends who also left the UK for Australia are moving out from there too. Another country with high depression rates, high cost of living and overall poor quality of life. Unless you're in the top 1% of wealth it's no longer possible to live a comfortable lifestyle in these countries.

@@mkleng Philippines and India are noticeably third world, yes.
Vietnam is in parts, but is rapidly developing and offers a better standard of living than Britain in some of the richer parts. I guess in 10-15 years or so Vietnam will be closer to Singapore/Japan/Korea levels of wealth.
Costa Rica is mostly developed, but has some parts you need to avoid.
I'm now based in Seoul, South Korea, my favourite place that I've lived, and very lucky that they're so business friendly and have allowed me to get residency this way.

People really underestimate the effect the UK weather and lack of sunshine, constant damp grey weather can do to your mental health. I am a Nurse and left the NHS a year ago for Australia after getting my permanent visa. I have never looked back and looking at the state of the UK, nothing has changed. Yes, Aus has it's issues just like most countries but when you can go for a walk in the sunshine or an afternoon at the beach it makes a huge difference. I simply could not handle the UK winter any more from October to April just pure grey cloud covered misery, then you MIGHT get a week of summer and your're back into winter again. Plus the cost of living, houses ridiculously expensive, the greed everywhere. UK is a bad place to live.

The food's great. Getting outdoors depends some on where you are.... if you are spending time in a city, check that it is a city with beaches. For example where I live in Brisbane, it is not a beach city. I think you'll find the distances are greater than you expect. Good plan not to be in the north in summer as that is cyclone season. Good on you and good luck.

You are not allowed to work on a travel visa. You also have to go out of the country after 6 months and then fly back into it. The nearest place to fly too is New Zealand, although its not cheap. When I went out to Australia for a year, because I didn't fly out and fly in after six months. When I applied for a visa to go back I was banned for five years. I did leave the country when the year visa was up. Australia is incredibly strict, and migrating there is very difficult indeed. It's very difficult to get sponsorship too. Don't take the train from Sydney to Brisbane, even training it to Byron Bay takes 12 hours on a very uncomfortable old train. Brisbane is even further than Byron Bay, if you are planning to go from Sydney to Brisbane, it's best to take the flight. The country is huge.

Here is what all people setting off abroad should keep in the back of their minds, for comfort and reassurance:
    1) It's not a one way ticket. It's no big deal to just turn around and come back if it truly doesn't work out. However, don't be too hasty to give up if you go through some unhappiness or challenges.
    2) Think of the entire planet as one city and each place you go is just a colourful new suburb where people do things differently. People really freak themselves out when they move abroad as if they've gone to another planet.
    3) You only live once. Living somewhere foreign to you offers you a module of education you cannot get any other way. Also, you need to put interesting stuff into your biography! Working the daily grind, commuting from your hometown to work and watching the entire townscape devolve into fried chicken shops, Turkish barbers, betting shops, mobile phone and vape shops, Eastern European delis and poundshops cannot be your destiny. Whirl around the planet! Changing your 'four walls' is incredibly good for the spirit. You really never know what opportunities are out there, just craving you to collide with them and make some magic. Go get 'em!! 🗺✌✌✌✌

I have been planning to move to Australia or Thailand but my mother doesn't believe it will happen. She thinks I'm stuck here like the rest of us. Now I just want to prove her wrong.
For years, I've wholeheartedly believed that every part of this country is going to keep deteriorating and I've been proved correct. Nothing is going to change this trend.
We have a government whose only goal is to fuck us over and a population who gave up decades ago.
My partner is from Thailand. Sometimes I feel like it was a mistake to get her to come here as she earned more than me. Her position does not get paid well in the UK at all compared to Thailand. Then there's my father who got remarried and has lived in Adelaide, Australia for almost 15 years.
I'm giving myself until September 2025 to realign my career to the skills that these countries want. If something big for me doesn't happen in the UK by then, I'm outta here. I want to work to live, not live to work. Especially not in a country where you can't even do anything other than stay at home.
