    I made a pretty similar build for my last playthrough, wrecked the Harvester in less than 45 seconds on Nightmare with it.
    It just ROLLS on everything, while also facetanking entire armies and any boss on the side. It's very simple in principle and goes a bit like this one: arcane warrior + blood mage + battlemage or keeper (immunity to knockdown under a boss's nose's pretty awesome). It uses A LOT of sustained spells to cap (and overcap, in case he's debuffed) physical, mental, spell and elemental resistances, while getting ungodly amounts of evasion (100% in fact), defense, missile defense (useless but I like big numbers!) and armor. Don't put a single point in anything but magic ('xept to get to 16 cunning for skills). Spellpower's off the charts, beyond 250. HP and the rest can be increased enough with gear. For skills: max combat training, survival, vitality, clarity, only 3 pts needed in coercion once you've reached 35 cunning, let crafting to your sidekicks. Add to that enough gear to cap almost every elemental bonus damage AND some hexes, and you can multiply any ele dmg by 3 (it's good to have one point in poison to be able to use Elemental Coating because of that). Heavy fatigue but you'll have so many hp and sustain you won't even care. No need to bother with mana regen: Dark Sustenance, one lyrium potion here and there and Stoic passive do the trick (allowing you to focus your gear on damage).
    Spell wisp + spell might + spell shield + arcane shield + combat magic + shimmering shield + rock armor + elemental mastery + haste and flaming weapons always on (cast all with your staff, because you'll have more spellpower with it, but cast combat magic with your sword&shield cause it's calculated with your magic attribute, and that one will be higher with the dead legion heraldry on your shield). For mobbing: the classic blood wound + fireball, or a juicy virulent walking bomb to sate your bloodlust. Mark of death from Jerrik + Vulnerability hex + death hex to down that tanky meatbag. Or just whip out the good ol' sword and board and cut your way to gory glory without even being grazed once (much much higher dps than with your staff)!
    Here's your gear:
    - Head: Toque of the Oblivious.
    - Gloves: Elementalist's Grasp (+10% version from the 2nd Disciple general in the Siege of Amaranthine).
    - Chest: Battledress of the Provocateur (2 amplification + 1 evasion runes to reach 100% dodge).
    - Boots: Cailan's Greaves.
    - Staves: Staff of the Lost is king (Spellfury's awesome too but it doesn't cap spirit damage bonus).
    - Melee: Vigilance longsword (raw + effortless, with 3 elemental runes = 6 dmg of each element x 1.5 x 2 so around 90 bonus dmg not mitigated by enemy armor) + Landsmeet Shield. Its rare "absorb damage" effect also works on blood magic self-dmg, -12% on this shield. Dead Legion heraldry if you're ok with it.
    - Belt: Cinch of Skillful Maneuvering.
    - Amulet: The High Regard of House Dace is probably best here, with its rare, not easily obtainable bonuses. Scout's Medal could be an okay tank+mana option. Maybe Illumination/Seeker's Chain (+all atributes). The Spellward is overkill though, you can get up to 95% spell resist from skills only (Arcane Shield + Fade Shield + Spell Shield), the last 5% are easily capped.
    - Rings: Ash + Icicle (caps fire and cold resist + dmg bonus, also 8 free magic).
    - Consumables: the only thing worth crafting, Elemental Coating and Swift Salve. Paired with Haste, you'll divide your attack animation by almost half.
    Now for spells, do as follow:
    ARCANE > Mastery 4, Attun 3
    PRIMAL > Fire 3, Earth 1
    CREATION > Enhance 4, Summoning 1
    SPIRIT > Anti-Magic 1, Mana Alter 4, Death 3
    ENTROPY > Hexes 4, Draining 4
    SPECIALIZATIONS > AW 4, Bld Mage 3, Battlemage/Keeper 4
    Now, you'll dish out extreme damage while being pretty much impervious to it, but don't forget: 100% dodge only means normal physical attacks can't hit you, while 100% spell resist means you'll cancel any damage of magic origin. However, you'll still be vulnerable to non-magic elemental damage, hence why I capped all elemental resist (85%). On top of that, auto-hit physical attacks will still hit you (massive attacks, grabs, overwhelm, etc.), that's why I also pumped some skills and gear to get to around 60 armor. Truth be told you'll be effectively immortal, only the Armored Ogre Alpha and the Harvester could potentially kill you with one of their attacks, if they crit while you're like half hp for example.

    • @Someguy4321
      @Someguy4321 11 месяцев назад +1

      >Hexes - while I don't consider it to be strictly optimal, do try 3 mages sequentially casting Death Hex on someone standing in the Death Cloud; death cloud must be cast by a mage with the highest spellpower. With the curse of vulnerability applied, I had seen this deal a thousand or so in Origins campaign. It is not very impressive compared to silly things, idk, Spirit Warrior can get up to in Awakening (1000ish damage per hit in Unending Flurry, lol) but it is -probably- the best burst DPS possible in Origins, where getting non-burst dps above 100 is somewhat of a struggle.

    • @MEUAR
      @MEUAR 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@Someguy4321 Truth, Death Hex is A MEGAMAMMOTH OF A BEAST. It really catapults your DPS since it's pretty hard for any class but Rogue to get consistant crits on its own in Origins.
      Speaking of Spirit Warrior, I've been thinking for a long time of doing a dex warrior archer build, going Spirit Warrior + Accuracy in Awakening, with maxed crit dmg, crit chance, high atk speed and spirit dmg bonus. I know I won't find the time to play again for at least years now, so if you or someone ever wanted to try that kind of wonky build, ROCK ON BRUV!!

    • @AKisHerceg
      @AKisHerceg  10 месяцев назад +7

      Sadly, I don't. I do plan to do an Arcane Warrior playthrough in the future though. :)
      Some tips:
      You have to start as a support mage until you unlock the Arcane Warrior spec.
      Your first spells should be Heroic Offense and Heal when you start the game.
      This is an Arcane Warrior, so from the beginning I recommend you pick up spells that would increase your(and the party's) defense. Heroic Defense and Glyph of Warding. Your first spell that you automatically start with, will be Arcane Bolt, so until you unlock Combat Magic you have to stick with that as your main damage spell. Heal and Arcane Bolt can get your through the whole first half of the game. With Heroic Defense and Glyph of Warding your team will be near untouchable. With Heroic Offense they will never miss.
      Boost nothing but your Magic with every level up. Don't get tempted to place on WP or CONS. Just boost Magic. If you run out of mana during combat, just drink a small mana potion. They are dirt cheap and later on you can make them yourself from some cheap material.
      After level 7 when you unlock Arcane Warrior and Combat Magic, you can start wearing armor and you can make great use of your defense increasing skills. Enemies will have a very hard time hitting you now and you will have decent melee damage. You can have Flaming Weapon on to increase your damage and you can also pick up Haste to increase your attack speed and running speed.
      You are basically a warrior now, who can heal and increase the defense of the party.
      After you reach level 14, that is when the fun starts. You are gonna pick up Blood Magic, and since you can unlock Blood Wound at level 12, you can already unlock it when you unlock the spec, if you have some spells saved up.
      Now you are not only durable, can heal and increase the defense of the party, you can also be very effective with crowd control.
      After this, the game will be pretty easy, so just pick up whatever spell would make you more effective. The rest is pretty much explained in the video. :)

    • @AKisHerceg
      @AKisHerceg  Год назад +2

      Nope. When it comes to grab, you can use Blood Wound on the creature first, so it can't grab you. But even if they can, the grab does not deal enough damage to bring me to even half health. I can survive two consecutive grabs even. The attack that can be dangerous is the Ogre's Ram. They can just spam this skill with its 2 sec cooldown and knockdown effect(which is pretty hard to resist even with high physical res) and by the time you get up, they can ram you again knocking you down again in an endless cycle.
      Of course this is dangerous to any build that can't resist knockdown, including dual weapon rogues/warriors, archers and all mages.

    I know this is an old video but I misunderstood your recent playthrough’s title which inspired me to attempt what I thought you were doing. To make a long story short(ish): The wiki says it is the magic attribute that determines damage not spell power, amongst other claims. How much testing did you do with AW’s ‘combat magic’?
    For the record love your work, DAO is one of the GOATs I keep in my wheel house and was pleasantly surprised a while back when I returned to the scene and stumbled upon a video of yours detailing a build I’ve always wanted in not just DAO but all of rpgs and usually found in most cases devs didn’t really consider the niche and that is the 2handed weapon assassin/rogue. It was nice to find it successful as well as fun and unique despite its itemization and skill limitations.

    • @AKisHerceg
      @AKisHerceg  11 месяцев назад +2

      Hi! I did a lot of testing. Magic is indeed the base for your damage. Spellpower determines your spell effectiveness and your hit chance as an Arcane Warrior. Spellpower is basically your attack, but it’s nerfed. You get 0.2 attack per Spellpower. So basically 5 Spellpower gives 1 attack, which is why Spellpower is very important. If you have 100 SP then that is +20 attack. Magic gives Spellpower, so naturally more magic means mor SP.

    • @AKisHerceg
      @AKisHerceg  3 месяца назад +2

      Sadly that is natural for the AW. But you have a couple of options:
      First off, your Attack score(chance to hit) is based on your Spellpower. However it does not directly translate to it. 5 SP = 1 Attack.
      You start with 50 attack as a mage. Look at your SP and divide it by 5. Add this to your 50 attack, and you will get your attack score.
      So if you have 100 SP, that translates into +20 attack which you add to the 50 that you have innately, and boom. You have 70 attack. Which is pretty terrible, hence you miss a lot.
      Some people would want you to boost Dex, since it would boost your defense and Dex also gives 0.5 attack after every points instead of 0.2. I disagree. If you want big numbers, you go for Magic only, since Dex does not increase your damage.
      The way you can solve your attack problem is that either you or one of your support mage should keep casting Heroic Offense on you.
      Heroic Offense gives (100 attack + SP) * 0.1. Which means that with around 100 SP, you can get +20 attack if you apply Heroic Offense.
      Also, Spellwisp and Spellmight are pretty much mandatory since they boost your SP.
      If you use Spellwisp+Spellmight and you keep applying Heroic Offense on you, you can have around 110-120 attack, which is considered great in terms of attack score. You will definitely miss a lot less this way, and you also don't have to invest into Dex which would lower your damage.
      If you go with a warrior, get the Champion spec and the Rally ability on them. It gives +10 attack to anyone around the Champion. A Bard can also boost your attack with Song of Courage.
      You can also pick up Misama, since it gives a -10 defense de-buff to enemies around you.

    Great guide! Quick question for someone who hasn't given Arcane Warrior a try yet, but how exactly is a traditional Arcane Warrior's damage (ie. wearing massive armor) less? Massive armor increases your fatigue and mana regen but since you're using blood magic and therefore health to do spells wouldn't you be able to dish up this same kind of damage wearing plate?

    • @AKisHerceg
      @AKisHerceg  Год назад +2

      The main difference is the attribute distribution. A traditional AW has tons of WP to combat fatigue and the negative mana regen coming from the upkeep of the sustainable spells. It also has a lot more Constitution especially if you use blood. This approach takes away lots of attribute points that could otherwise go into Magic, which increases the damage of your spells and your swings.

      @@AKisHerceg Ahh ic! Thank you for the quick reply!
      In that case my next question, do you think this build would work using a 2hander?
      Also despite saying this build is squishier than a typical full massive-plate AW it looks like you're still practically unkillable/unhittable as-is, XD
      How do you stay so tough and do you think this build would work with more Massive armor substituted in (ie. the chest or gloves) because then you could maybe stop having to use an activatable like Heroic Defense?

    • @AKisHerceg
      @AKisHerceg  Год назад +2

      @@numark79 A few things to clarify about the game mechanics:
      Armor does not raise your defense. It does not matter how heavy or massive it is, it does not raise your defense points(unless it has a set bonus or it is enchanted with +defense). It increases armor. Which is basically damage reduction against physical attacks(so for example with 20 armor against an enemy who hits you with 50 damage, you negate 20 so you receive 30 dmg instead). Defense is different. Defense helps you avoid attacks. Your defense rating has to be higher than the attack rating of your foes.
      So even if I would have the best plate armor, Heroic Defense would still help with my defense, not only because armor does not help with that, but it also gives missile deflection.
      However, I primarily do not use Heroic Defense, I use Heroic Offense. Which is very helpful for a melee AW because it gives a huge attack boost - therefore you score a successful hit more often.
      In addition to the defense and armor mechanics, there is also a third mechanic in the game called "dodge" or "evasion". It acts as a secondary "defense", and it gives a chance to completely avoid enemy attacks without having to combat their attack rating. Contrary to defense, this is a percentage based ability, so if you reach 100% your defense rating will become irrelevant. At 100% dodge you can never be hit by anything(even if your defense is 0). Melee and ranged attacks are automatic misses against you. The only exceptions are: area effect attacks and auto-hit skills(like Scattershot or Ram from an Ogre, Slam from a Golem etc.). And of course spells, which you need to counter with spell resistance.
      This is why my AW seems so durable. It has over 70% dodge.
      You can get "dodge" from a few places: Cailan's Greaves gives 20%. For an Arcane Warrior, Combat Magic with the upgrade Fade Shroud gives 25%(for a rogue, the passive Evasion skill gives +20% and the passive Dark Passage ability also gives +5%). The Maneuvering Belt gives 10%(15% in Awakening), the Spellward Amulet gives 10%. In addition to this the First Enchanter Cowl also gives 10%. So as you can see, by combining these numbers, you can reach as high as 85% dodge with an AW(100+ in Awakening). That means that 85% of enemy attacks will miss. So auto-attacks are pretty much a non-problem.
      The disadvantage of a massive or heavy armor is the fact that they increase your fatigue, so your spells will cost more to cast. And that is not wise with this build, since you use your health to cast spells and your fatigue is already up since you have a lot of sustainable spells active.
      A simple Death Hex can use up over a 100+ health. That is almost half of your total health pool used up for a single spell. So without heavy or massive armor they are much cheaper.
      As to using a two-handed weapon: yes, it is totally viable, but you have to tweak it a little bit. You see, when I build a character, I take the equipment into account as well. For example here, Cailan's Shield and Maric's Blade(Cailan's Arms set) is almost mandatory, because the set gives a massive mana regeneration boost in battle. This allows me to not be concerned about my mana while I fight. Haste, Spellmight etc continuously drain your mana during battle even if you don't use spells at all. This is why this set is so great. It counters the mana regeneration penalty from sustainable spells.
      So if you want to use two-handed weapons, you have to keep this in mind. As far as I know only the Ageless gives bonus to mana/stamina regeneration(and even that is just a tiny 0.25), so I recommend getting one that at least gives a huge amount of stamina, so you don't constantly run out of mana during a fight. :)

    • @numark79
      @numark79 Год назад +1

      @@AKisHerceg Ahh interesting and thank you again for the quick reply!
      So for a "traditional" Arcane Warrior, what would the stat distribution/stat ratio look like? You mentioned needing Willpower earlier; or would it depend on the secondary specialization if not blood mage?

    • @AKisHerceg
      @AKisHerceg  Год назад +1

      @@numark79 Yes, you need a lot more WP if you don't use blood. I could build it with 50% Magic, 40% WP and 10% CON. Some place a few points on DEX too, but I usually don't.
      With a huge Mana pool, you can keep up Shimmering Shield effectively, so you are much more durable(since it gives15 armor, 75% resistance for all elements and 75% mental and physical resistance).
      So if you want to tank enemies, invest into WP and mana regen, because Shimmering Shield drains 10 every second.

It's not like any other type of magic, which can be used for anything else, like using fire to burn stuff or cold to put out fire, healing to mend wounds, or casting magical barriers to protect others.
      It's taking life essence to dominate or crush people's minds or bodies.

      1. I have the Ultimate Edition, but I think the patch 1.4 allows you to stack poisons(only a few patches disallow poison stacking).
      2. You don't have to reach level 25, I just wanted to push the build as far as possible to see its potential.
      3. In this playthrough, I used the bonus rewards you stat with(you get some items if you beat some tricky stuff in the dlcs) to quickly build up my money. The Reaper's Cudgel alone worth 300+ gold so money was not a problem.
      If you don't use bonus items, you might want to check out my full playthrough with my War Mage to see how I accumulate the money I need. You don't have to watch all the 23 hours though, because there is a 3 part detailed guide in the description and you can just key word the items you are looking for(for example you type in Reaper's Vestment and you see when and how I got the money to get it - same with all the rest). but generally speaking doing side quest is fairly profitable in the game, much more than the loot.
      Most of my stuff here though, is not something I bought(Cailain's Greaves+Maric's Sword+Cailan's Shield are all in the Ostagar dlc, my amulet and belt are also dlc). The two only expensive stuff here are the Reaper's Vestment and the Lifegiver. Together they cost around 200 gold, which is not hard to accumulate. That is the standard setup I use for the "tanky" AW, yes. But this is not a tanky AW. Sadly, that setup does not give nearly as much damage as this, which was the point of this AW. :)
      Spellward is great for magic defense and WP, but it does not give any crit chance. Which is the main difference here - my crits are enormous. 110-130 is not uncommon in Origins(an Elite Genlock is 3 hits!), in Awakening and beyond, I deal 200+ crit dmg. So I need the Dace amulet to boost my crit chance. Without it, I only crit 1 out of 20 times instead of 1 out of 10 times. Which is basically every five seconds.
      Wade's Armor does not give any spell res, which I need without Spellward. The Reaper's Vestments also gives 6 Constitution so I don't have to put anything on Constitution if I use the Vestment and Lifegiver.
      Andruil's Belt gives no Dodge, which I need since my armor is only 35. The Maneuvering Belt also gives spell resistance which Andruil does not.
      Honleath helmet is good, but gives no defense nor dodge.
      So as you can see, I went for damage here, not armor and ele res. As I wrote it in the video, it is a damager character, not a tank. :)

      There are AW casters, but they don't work as well in melee combat as this one. You miss way too much.
      In order to not miss with a melee weapon, you need a lot of spellpower, which comes from magic. A caster would place a lot of points on willpower, so you can have more mana. Sadly that will directly affect your melee damage, and your attack.
      So no, this build can't be replicated if you don't go full magic.
      But if you are fine with having less melee damage and less attack, then of course you can create an AW that has a bit of both. A little spell casting and a little melee.

      At the beginning get Arcane Shield, Rock Armor, Heal and Regeneration. Get Arcane Warrior spec first at level 7, because Blood Magic will not have good spells until you reach level 14 which is when you open your second spec. So at the beginning you are a mage with a sword and shield and healing abilities. Get Haste fast so you and your party(if you bring a party) can have better dps with faster speed. To get Haste you need to pick up Heroic Offense and Heroic Defense, so those two can help you out a lot in combat as well. Heroic Defense and Glyph of Warding will raise your defense very high so at early levels you can do great because almost no one will be able to hit you(especially with Arcane Shield active - that is a MINIMUM +65 bonus defense overall).
      So until you get Arcane Warrior, you are a healer/support mage(level 1-7), then you turn into a tank/healer(level 7-14) and finally: get Blood Magic at level 14, and unlock Blood Wound. Tried this build just now: damage is great, but I seem to have trouble with hitting anything on Nightmare. Can easily miss 5-6 times in a row on some regular enemies. Once I did 30 dex then magic all the way, to be able to wield The Rose's Thorn and Duncan's Dagger. I was trying to make the closest thing I could to a Monk class, and dual-dagger was the closest thing to a Monk's punching power that I could find in the game. Actually worked pretty well. Very tanky, didn't miss as much because of the dex points (specially early game), and also dealt good damage because of Flame Weapons on a pair of daggers and dexterity, which apparently does work for dagger damage when you dual-wield.
      One of my favorite things about Origins is that most of the builds you think might be good are going to be at least decent. At least good enough to clear on Hard.

      The Return to Ostagar dlc and its loot can give you 50+.
      The side quests in the tavern, the Irregulars and the Mage's Collective can give you 100+ gold if you finish their quest line.
      Also some ncps can give you a good sum: The dwarf in the proving who is being blackmailed with the love letters can give you 15, Sofia Dryden gives you 9 or 8, Faryn gives you 3 if you don't bring Sten, Ban Sighard gives you 50 gold after you get his son out of the Denerim Dungeon, Howe's chest also has some, the Dragon Den in the forest also has some. But was wondering
    You can reach 100 dodge chance and 103 spell resist with this set up:
    Arcane shield(15d/15s)
    Cailan's greaves(20d)
    Spellward(10d/30s)
    Reaper's vestments(10d/16s)
    Dwarven rune 2x(10s)
    Key to the city(4s)
    Ancient Elven Gloves(4s)
    Clinch of maneuvering(10d/10s)
    first enchanter cowl(10d/4s)
    d=dodge s=spell resist
    Was wondering why you went with the 20% fire gloves cause at most it gives 2 more damage on ur flame weapon, cause its capped at 20
    And also why did you go with The High Regard of House Dace instead of spellward
    Cause while it gives 50 mana and 1 regen and crit chance, spellward makes you reach 100 on both dodge and spell resist

    • @AKisHerceg
      @AKisHerceg  2 года назад +2

      Your build is more defensive. The point of this one was to maximize my damage. :)
      I went with those gloves, because there are no other gloves that would benefit this character more. What would I need? More armor? It would just fatigue me more... Crit chance gloves would be great, sadly they can't be worn by mages. So additional fire damage is pretty much the best I can get.
      Amulets? I went with both... kinda. I used the Spellward when I needed more Spell resist(like with Gaxkang), but usually I kept the Dace amulet on because it made me hit crits constantly and my crits were enormous.
      Nah, if you solo bosses, you can't get better runes than the paralyzing ones, so I would not put dweomers in my weapon. Although you can keep switching them if you want to have the benefit of both.
      Cailan's Arms give awesome mana regen and superior damage(the highest damage in fact when it comes to one handed weapons), so I would not pick the Spellweaver either.
      You are kinda mixing things up with your list. You only get 15% dodge and spell res in Awakening from Arcane Shield. You need the Fade Shield passive to upgrade your Arcane Shield which is not present in the main game. The Maneuvering Belt gives 15% spell res and dodge in Awakening not just 10 like in the main game.
      So here is my dodge chance in Origins:
      Combat Magic 25
      Boots 20
      Cowl 10
      Belt 10
      Robe 10
      75 - with Spellward it can be 85 but I went after the damage.
      And here is my dodge chance in Awakening:
      Fade Shield 15
      Combat Magic 25
      Belt 15
      Boots 20
      Cowl 10
      Robe 10
      95% - which is enough for pretty much everything. Even against the Harvester's minions.
      So as you can see, I sacrificed a tiny bit of survivability to reach maximum damage. I consider that a fair trade. :)

      @@dannyjoe444 Well, in my opinion, it is not effective in the slightest.
      Staffs need Magic to increase their damage - and magic is completely useless for any warrior or rogue.
      Staffs can't crit so a cunning stacked Bard is useless with it. Staffs can't backstab either so an Assassin is also useless. Same with a Duelist. This specific staff also deals physical damage, so you can't increase its damage with Curses.
      The only way I can imagine using this item for a non-mage, is if you are a Ranger and you role-play as a Druid.
      You can summon animals and you use your staff. You can use Stealth, Below the Belt and Dirty Fighting. No other talent is available with a staff.
      With high enough magic, the druid can actually work, since your pets can do most of the job and you can't really miss with a staff. You can pick up the Assassin spec if you want Mark of Death for damage intake increase on your enemies or the Duelist spec for more defense.

      Mark of Death indeed works with a staff and the activation is much faster(almost instantaneous). You could use Song of Courage as a Bard as well, but then you can't super-stack magic, because you need Cunning for your song's effectiveness.
      The only problem is that you really don't have anything other than a handful of skills to play with. And the staff damage is not impressive at all, even with a ton of magic.

The gloves are part of the loot that you get after killing Uldred, so no money is required there either. Libertarian's cowl is loot from the Circle tower, no money is required - the First Enchanter cowl is only 1 gold 85 silver.
      The only two expensive equipment here are the Lifegiver ring and the Reaper's Vestment robe. They require 87+92 gold. So around 180. That can be easily acquired by doing quest, looting and just progressing in the story.
      But if you want access to these items faster, then just kill the Harvester on Hard or Nightmare in the Golems of Amgarrak dlc. Then you get an item(Reaper's Cudgel) which you can sell for over 300 gold at any merchant from the beginning of the game. :)
