I envy you as you move into spring, everything showing signs of new growth, warm days and blissful sunshine inspiring feelings of happiness and positivity for the future. I, on the other hand am moving into autumn which has the negative effect of cold days and even colder nights with a bit of wind chill thrown in for good measure, which is very disappointing considering our summer was reduced because of el ninya, cool, overcast and wet, which makes it all the more necessary to live vicariously through your lives and enjoy life in a cerebral sense. On our farm, this type of door & windows was used for storing tools and of course, security was very important and keeping 'thieves' from getting in through the 'window.'

Happy Easter! 🙏 Another lovely episode. Looking forward to seeing how this tiny house turns out. Personally I also would prefer the windows opening inwards because it means you can add the mosquito netting on the outer side and can still open the windows without worrying about insects getting in. It was a lifesaver in Northern Italy. I can imagine a farm in Portugal would probably have as many if not more insects trying to get in, especially on hot summer nights with the lights on inside. But I know it also takes up some space which needs to be accounted for and a tiny house is already limited in that regard.

I also think it was better to open to the inside. If the net is interior and retractable, insects that are in the net and especially on the window glass will be able to enter. Another reason is the greater likelihood of water infiltration. the window should also be set back a little in relation to the outer wall. finally, when opening to the outside, you will need something to hold it against the wind. I also think that the door should have a wicket.

@@TheNewbys for this size of windows it should be a tilt-and-turn window, because they don't disturb when you want to ventilate and its use easy to clean. Opening to the outside you only can clean from the exterior and its is difficult to clean if it is at a high level

The tiny house is coming on brilliantly 😊. Can’t wait to see the final reveal. It will be such a lovely place for family and friends to stay. Id be tempted to give it a try first 😁
we also installed wooden windows and patio doors in our house in thailand many years ago. after about 5 years the windows were destroyed by termites, although a protection against termites was applied. not to forget that wood is always working and warps depending on the humidity and temperature differences. it was an expensive swap replacing everything with plastic/aluminum windows.
Watch out Tara, if you learn all about handling those tools John might find YOU projects . 😂. Great video once again. Can't wait to see your parents enjoy those two boys. John has such great skills. You both seem to have all that you need to make this home the perfect place for your boys. What a special place to grow up.

Those flowers are just gorgeous, the Wisteria and the King Protea in perticular are spectacular! 💜🌻 Crusoe reaching the age where he wants to do things he knows he probably shouldn't, but still not yet old enough to know not to give the game away by checking where you are all the time! So sweet! I managed not to keep checking when I was little, but where I went wrong was every time I was asked what I was doing I'd call back "nothing naughty!" which of course instantly dropped me right in it! 🤣 The tiny house is just coming along in leaps and bounds and it's going to look just perfect for when your visitors arrive! *Hugs * to you all! xx

Gosh, you guys have really been cracking on! You have achieved so much in a short time, greenhouse, chicken coop ( bloody love it, looks fab), lucky chickens and the tiny house looks amazing. You have turned a damp, dark little room into a lovely welcoming space. I am filled with admiration, I raised three boys and know how hard a baby and lively ( very beautiful) toddler can be. Hi John, I was watching your video with my sister and we were laughing so much as it reminded us of the start of our winter. My sisters husband had put 6 inch circular vents in every room in her house.( mad bugger, he forgets we live in Scotland lol ) So with the gas and electric going up in price from £79 a month to £210 a month and my sister, now divorced and being on long term sick. We decided to fill the vents in with polystyrene plugs and then use the spray foam to seal it all in. Lol well the mess and the foam went everywhere 😅😅 we had it allover our hands and of course its waterproof so we couldn't get it off our skin. 😅😅😅 we thought we were going to have to go to the hospital as our fingers were sticking together. We were squealing with laughter my sister was in a panic but I just laughed and laughed it was so funny. And suddenly I said to my sister "do you have any flour"? My sister said what the he'll do you want flour fortis, this is no time for baking. 😅😅 so I got the flour poured it on the bread board and told her to dip her hinds in it. We rubbed the sticky foam off our hands with flour. We won't forget it in a hurry and my sister said she couldn't believe the way my mind works as she wouldn't have thought of using flour to dry up the stickiness. Anyway it was so funny and John reminded us of that day. And just incase you were wondering! The foam helped keep her house warmer too. 😅😅 xxK

If your worried about the window be effected by the sun, just build a setting area with a cover over it. It will still let in the sunlight but protect the windows. You could also open the windows to hear the rain and not worry about the rain coming in. The wisteria is beautiful. One of the many beauty's of spring.
Garden is coming on now, maybe try making some kind water of catching from the greenhouse gutters, you will be surprised how much you catch, and it will be so helpful.
Wow! The first shot around the place was amazing! The difference with the leaves and things blooming is wonderful! You will be keeping the bees busy, that is for sure! Personally I also would prefer the windows opening inwards because it means you can add the mosquito netting on the outer side and can still open the windows without worrying about insects getting in. It was a lifesaver in Northern Italy. I can imagine a farm in Portugal would probably have as many if not more insects trying to get in, especially on hot summer nights with the lights on inside. But I know it also takes up some space which needs to be accounted for and a tiny house is already limited in that regard.

I also think it was better to open to the inside. If the net is interior and retractable, insects that are in the net and especially on the window glass will be able to enter. Another reason is the greater likelihood of water infiltration. the window should also be set back a little in relation to the outer wall. finally, when opening to the outside, you will need something to hold it against the wind.
I also think that the door should have a wicket.

@@TheNewbys for this size of windows it should be a tilt-and-turn window, because they don't disturb when you want to ventilate and its use easy to clean.
Opening to the outside you only can clean from the exterior and its is difficult to clean if it is at a high level

we also installed wooden windows and patio doors in our house in thailand many years ago. after about 5 years the windows were destroyed by termites, although a protection against termites was applied. not to forget that wood is always working and warps depending on the humidity and temperature differences. it was an expensive swap replacing everything with plastic/aluminum windows.

I managed not to keep checking when I was little, but where I went wrong was every time I was asked what I was doing I'd call back "nothing naughty!" which of course instantly dropped me right in it! 🤣

Gosh, you guys have really been cracking on! You have achieved so much in a short time, greenhouse, chicken coop ( bloody love it, looks fab), lucky chickens and the tiny house looks amazing. You have turned a damp, dark little room into a lovely welcoming space. I am filled with admiration, I raised three boys and know how hard a baby and lively ( very beautiful) toddler can be. Hi John, I was watching your video with my sister and we were laughing so much as it reminded us of the start of our winter. My sisters husband had put 6 inch circular vents in every room in her house.( mad bugger, he forgets we live in Scotland lol ) So with the gas and electric going up in price from £79 a month to £210 a month and my sister, now divorced and being on long term sick. We decided to fill the vents in with polystyrene plugs and then use the spray foam to seal it all in. Lol well the mess and the foam went everywhere 😅😅 we had it allover our hands and of course its waterproof so we couldn't get it off our skin. 😅😅😅 we thought we were going to have to go to the hospital as our fingers were sticking together. We were squealing with laughter my sister was in a panic but I just laughed and laughed it was so funny. And suddenly I said to my sister "do you have any flour"? My sister said what the he'll do you want flour fortis, this is no time for baking. 😅😅 so I got the flour poured it on the bread board and told her to dip her hinds in it. We rubbed the sticky foam off our hands with flour. We won't forget it in a hurry and my sister said she couldn't believe the way my mind works as she wouldn't have thought of using flour to dry up the stickiness. Anyway it was so funny and John reminded us of that day.
And just incase you were wondering! The foam helped keep her house warmer too. 😅😅 xxK

If your worried about the window be effected by the sun, just build a setting area with a cover over it. It will still let in the sunlight but protect the windows. You could also open the windows to hear the rain and not worry about the rain coming in. The wisteria is beautiful. One of the many beauty's of spring.
