He was kind of done dirty though. Like I was on the james charles hate train at first too but then I started learning about just how unsubstantiated some of the claims were, like no straight guy actually claimed to have been preyed on by him it was all the word of a one woman who had a grudge on him and claimed to have seen this happen. And once I learned about that the pieces kind of started falling together, how it's always specifically femme gay guys who get controversy around them, and how often that controversy relies around old school homophobic stereotypes (like all gay guys wanting to get a straight guy), I saw everything that happened in a different light. Just started to realize how READY people were to have a reason to hate him including myself, and let's be real a lot of us already did long before we had a reason. Muscular "straight acting" gay guys can contemporaneously say and do all kinds of things, even sell out their own community through homophobic politics and they never see a sliver of what feminine gay guys get for five year old comments or unsubstantiated claims from an uninvolved person with a grudge (obviously I'm not saying masculine gay guys are more likely to do these things, just that they have more freedom to). Like maybe even those of us in the queer community still aren't over our prejudices against visibly gendernonconforming people.
