Don't worry for not getting a good sense of the story watching the openings, that's normal.
As you've guessed from the first opening, the original Fate/stay Night was a PC game, a visual novel (if you don't know what that is, it's exactly what it says on the tin: novels using the fact that they're on PC to add cinematography and music.)
Thing is, those sometimes have what we call routes, basically branching stories. In Fate/Stay Night's case, you unlock those stories by completing the previous one. You start with the basic Fate route, which basically centers around the blond royalty girl, you get to the Unlimited Blade Work route, wich centers around the girl in red and the archer that's with her, then end with the Heaven's Feel route, which focuses around the sad girl from the last opening. All of those have the same starting point, but evolve in wildly different manners
So all those openings you've watched are actually parallel stories, hence why you couldn't really get the story out of them. Some were from anime adaptation of individual routes, some were from remakes of the original game, so it can get confusing.
But yeah, the Fate series is absolutely massive, in a way that I like to compare to stuff like Marvel and DC comics. They have a gigantic universe, full to the brim of characters that can all be the protagonists of their own shows and spin-offs, and sometimes cross-over or cameo in other's. Big difference is that Type-Moon, the company behind this universe, puts a big accent on it's unique worldbuilding, so almost every show gives at least an important nugget of information regarding the workings of this world.
As someone who has stayed invested in this world for quite a while now, it's a hard task, but I don't regret any of it because it's just that interesting

Fate is a series that merges both reality and mythological figures to make its story. While you honestly don't have to know anything about the inspirations to appreciate the series it's definitely a nice touch. This series is a combination of novels, animes, and some games.
While the series does have a manga, it is considered the least enjoyable way to watch as it neither has the refined look the anime has and it doesn't have the additional information from the novel.

Fate stay night started as a PC game, a visual novel, that had 3 "routes", as in three different story lines, titled "Fate", "Unlimited Blade Works (UBW)" and "Heaven's Feel". The PC version was rated 18+, as it had mature content, and it had 2 different opening (maybe three, I'm not sure), using the same song "This Illusion" for both, but with different animations. It was later got released as a PS2 game, subtitled "Realta Nua". The PS2 version had several differences: a new epilogue, voice acting, redone music, and also the rating became 15+, removing the mature content. It also had new openings, the same song with different animation for each route.
In 2006 the game got an anime adaptation that had 2 openings, the first was "disillusion", that is actually a different version of "This Illusion". This anime follow mainly the Fate Route, though it borrows quite a lot from other versions. In 2010 a movie adaptation of the UBW route was relesed.
in 2014 another studio, ufotable, adapted UBW as a tv show anime, and later between 2017-2020 (I think) a trilogy of films adapting Heaven's Feel.
Also, UBW's adaptation got the nickname "Unlimited Budget Works", because of how high quality everything looks. Basically, anything ufotable touches looks amazing. They also did the animation for the Realta Nua openings. The final OP you saw was for the Heaven's Feel part of the Realta Nua version of the game.

Fate/stay night was originally a visual novel released in 2004, written by Kinoko Nasu and developed by Type-Moon. They previously released Tsukihime in 2000 and Nasu wrote Kara no kyoukai and Mahoyo in 1998 and 1996. All of these take place in the same multiverse.
A visual novel usually has routes. Alternate timelines that explore different characters and themes. Fate/stay night has three. Fate, Unlimited Blade Works and Heavens Feel.
Realta Nua is a remaster released in 2005 that brought the game to consoles and removed the 18+ scenes. It got remastered again in 2014 under the same name for PSVita and phones.
A prequel was written in 2006 by a different author and made an anime in 2011. It's recommended you watch it after since they wrote it assuming you know major spoilers.
Stay night got 3 adaptations. Fate/stay night 2006 adapting the Fate route. Fate/stay night Unlimited Blade Works 2014 adapting UBW and the Heavens Feel trilogy starting 2017 ending 2020 adapting the last route.
    As a watch order:
Optionally read the Visual Novel. The anime cuts a lot of corners, especially with adapting the main character. It's very long though, 100+ hours.
    Fate/stay night 2006(optional again, it's pretty bad)
Fate stay night Unlimited Blade Works 2014
Fate stay night Heavens Feel(3 movies)
    Fate Zero 2011

Fate/Stay Night is originally a visual novel, separated in 3 "routes" (the story starts the same in each route, but "branches out" at various point, allowing the reader/spectator to see it unfold in a totally different way, and explore different characters and various aspects of the universe it takes place in).
The 3 routes, which add layers to each others and are thus _supposed_ to be followed in order, are named as such:
    - Fate (simply renamed Fate/Stay Night in most subsequent adaptations of this route: basically, if it's only written Fate/Stay Night, then it's this route)
    - Unlimited Blade Works
    - Heaven's Feel
The original visual novel had a remaster on Playstation 2 named Realta Nua, which itself was in turn remastered much later on PS Vita. Both versions of Realta Nua have new openings for each route.
The Fate route (the first one) was adapted by studio _Deen_ in anime series with the name Fate/Stay Night. The same studio later made an anime movie of the second route, Unlimited Blade Works, which also got a series adaptation by studio _Ufotable_ later on (which was and still is stupidly good). Ufotable then made the trilogy movie adaptation of the third and last route, Heaven's Feel (which quality is so ridiculous that my English is too poor to compliment).
Fate/Stay Night also got some video games (as in, proper, _gameplay-driven_ adapations) to its name, like Fate/Unlimited Codes or Crucis/Fatal Fake, but as far as I'm aware none of their openings was on your list.
    Hope that helps! ^^

Where 7 mages (masters) summon a servant from one of 7 classes Saber, Lancer, Archer, Assassin, Beserker. Caster and. Where characters from mythology/history are summoned in to so a saber is not always the same character for exaple Julius Caesar and King Arthur are both Sabers. They fight for a master aka a mage that summoned them. To get the holy grail that can grant eny wish. Of course not all Fate shows work exactly like this but the main series does.

    @jkosch Год назад

A key to understand what you are seeing here is that to know that Fate/Stay Night is originally a visual novel (VN) with three different routes (similar to different viable paths in a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book). The first is the Fate route, the second one the Unlimited Bladeworks route and the the third one the Heaven's Feel route. The main character is always the "normal looking guy" with the orange hair - Shirou, but each route puts the focus on a different set of other characters.
Realta Nua was the rerelease of the VN with fully voice acted dialogue (and the few original h-scenes changed to something not age restricted that makes sense in the story) and of course new openings that even differed between platforms it was released for in some cases.
The Fate route, with a few elements of the other routes because back than they were thinking it would be the only anime adaptation they would get, was adapted by studio Deen in 2006 (the VN came out in 2004). The Unlimited Bladeworks route was adapated into a single movie by studio Deen (a movie so no opening) and into a full blown TV series by studio Ufotable (who also did the later openings for Realta Nua). Heaven's Feel was also adapted into a series of three movies by Ufotable (but again no opening because they are movies - so the last Heaven's Feel opening you saw was Ufotables opening for Heaven's Feel in the VN).
Hollow Ataraxia is sequel to all routes (despite their different endings - it makes sense in context), so it has basically the same cast, just slightly expanded.
Fate/Zero is the prequel to Fate/Stay Night.
The other Fate titles (excerpt for small things like Today's Menu for the Emiya Family or Fate Zero Cafe etc. and excerpt for the big crossover comedy Carnival Phantasm) do generally not share the cast and most take place in other timelines within the expansive multiverse that is called the Nasuverse (after it's creator Kinoko Nasu) which share the cosmology and setting rules and occasionally characters [that also makes sense once you get behind the main quirk of the Fate stories]. There are also other series that belong to the Nasuverse like Karano Kiyoukai, Tsukihime, Mahoutsukai no Yoru, Canaan [more or less], Tsuki no Sango, Notes, DDD.

Fate: Realta Nua (with the censoring turned on, because that's how the creator wanted it), the visual novel, is one of the deepest, most significant experiences one can have with either gaming or anime. Deep, both philosophically and emotionally. Great characters. Perfect mix of light/happy and dark/depressing. The best way I can explain it is, only the Mass Effect series comes close to it in depth and feels, and I think Fate: Realta Nua wins in both those areas. The plot, needless to say, is very strong. Each route alone has some of the best, mind-blowing, plot, in anything, ever.
My suggestion, play Fate: Realta Nua, watching the opening for only the route you are on, follow it with watching the anime Fate/Zero (great anime), then consider playing Fate/Hollow Ataraxia. It's a sequel that's almost as good as the original and nearly as mind-blowing. Finally, I highly recommend watching the anime Kara no Kyoukai (lit. Boundary/Borderland of Emptiness, a.k.a. Garden of Sinners).

Because of that, have 3 "routes", when in each one are a main heroine who is the final goal to the protagonist: "Fate Route" aka Saber route, "Unlimited Blade Works" aka Rin route and "Heavens Feel" aka Sakura route.
They made also the Realta Nua version of the game (with voice acting but without sex scenes), and also an anime series:
Fate/Stay Night (2006) by studio DEEN, which adapt ed the "Fate route".

Fate is heavily built on Multiple Universes. All Fate stay Night parts are built on Fate Zero, so that would hypothetically be what you'd have to watch first. But since certain Characters and interactions spoil Stuff that happens in Stay Night, some argue against it. I dunno much about Hollow Ataraxia, one other I know about is Fate Grand Order, which is another Universe entirely, but the Characters you see in other Fate titles basically all exist in that one

  • @legoboy767675
    @legoboy767675 Год назад

so, the best way to explain this, with trying to avoid spoilers as much as possible:
Fate stay night started off as a visual novel with 3 routes - Stay Night, Unlimited Blade Works and Heavens Feel respectively. So the best way to picture it, is either like branching paths of fate or parallel universes, where a choice changes the overall outcome.
With some slight spoilers, which are kinda necessary to get a base understanding to whats going on, there are 7 teams of 2(a master and a servant) and they fight to the death in a war. The prize at the end of that promises to fulfill their wish (something like an omnipotent wish granting relic). That is pretty much the most bare bones explanation I can manage without spoiling more.
As for the other openings in the playlist, Hollow Ataraxia is pretty much a sequel to Stay night(all of the routes and its a vn), Fate/zero is a prequel to stay night, Fate extra is pretty much its own thing(also based on a game), Grand order diverges quite a bit and there is a mobile game for it(ie. tons of characters and loads of plot, sadly only chapter 0, 6, 7 and 8 got animated), Fate apocrypha(more servants, more masters, more death, bigger prize), Prisma Illia(magical girls, doing cute things, battle and questionable things(loli, yuri)), Fate Extella(another game, I think it ties in after extra), Case files of Lord El. Melloi the 2nd(detective, murder mystery) and Carnival Phantasm(yeah... its special).
Im sure Im missing something, but if you want a better explanation of the Fate franchise, I would recommend Girguks video: Badly Explaining the ENTIRE Fate Series in 30 MINUTES
He does a great job explaining it in my opinion.
Good luck and welcome to the Fate rabbit hole :)

To give you a little background on the anime: it comes from a visual novel, that's an interactive story, basically a game where you follow a story, make choices, and those choices lead to different endings. Fate/Stay Night is an Eroge, meaning it's an erotic visual novel (yep, the protagonist bangs the characters).
Contrary to popular belief, the animes Fate/Stay Night, Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited BladeWorks and Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel, are not remakes of each other, they're all depicting one of the 3 different routes (the choices that lead to an ending) of the original game, each with a different heroine, respectively Saber, Rin, and Sakura for Heaven's Feel.
All the other series, with the exception of Fate/Zero that works as a prequel, are spin offs with no real connection with the main series.

Without spoiling the story, the Fate/Stay Night was originally a visual novel, spanning 3 routes, with a different theme and heroine/love interest.
The entirety of the story is about Shirou Emiya(main character) going through his "Fate" or his dreams and ideals, and how he deals with it in each different route:
*Fate* has him tackle it head on. *Artoria*. is someone he both loves and aspires to be like.
*Unlimited Blade Works* has him struggle with his inner/external conflict and how he'll end up. *Rin Tohsaka* both helps him along the way, and works to form a mutual, caring, relationship.
*Heaven's Feel* has him give up on his aspirations for the one he loves. *Sakura Matou* gives Shirou a person he becomes devoted to protecting.

    Long story short.
Most of the OPs in this video are taken from the Visual Novel.
In that game you play 3 routes:
    - Stay Night. The first one and the so caller Saber route.
    - Unlimited Blade Works. The second one that things seem just a little bit different. Also called the Rin route.
    - Heaven's Feel. The third and darkest route by a longshot. Here imagine that things went to 11 out of 10 in a few breaths time. Aptly called the Sakura route.
Now some of the OPs here were from anime adaptations of said routes.
For more in depth, think of Fate series as equivalent to the Avengers movies. Fate belongs to Nasuverse and Avengers belong to MCU. Hope that clears it a bit.

Dude. The Fate franchise is massive and very interesting. The mobile game, Fate/Grand Order takes elements from as many self sustaining series (Stay Night, Zero, Apocrypha, etc.) and aggregates into a single massive story. The funny thing is, the franchise as a whole has sparked my interest in reading about actual world history, mythology and literature, as many characters are drawn from real world history like Charles Babbage, Nikola Tesla, Edward Teach, Florence Nightingale or Francis Drake, mythology like Heracles, Gilgamesh, Medusa or Ganesha, even literature ranging from children's stories to the Cthulhu Mythos by H.P. Lovecraft or One Thousand and One Nights (Arabian Nights) or even Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde or Frankenstein. The amount of content is huge and great if you want to entertain yourself. The best part is that you don't need to worry about the franchise's actual size, as most of the stories are self contained in their own little worlds, giving enough for anyone to understand and enjoy, but if you want more, well, there is a lot more to enjoy. Highly recommended. The best place to start would be precisely Fate/Stay Night. From there you can pick any other series.

Heracles summoned as he was enraged. (Because the family of the summoner knew that if they summoned a hero such as Heracles in his right mind that he would undoubtedly realize they were exploiting his summoner and would rescue her from them, and they couldn't have that.)
The actual minotaur of myth is also present in the Fate series as Asterios, but I don't think he's in any of the openings as anything more than a shadow.

Okay, I'm only about half the video, but here's a really summed up and spoiler free version of the story just to give a little context.
Fate/Stay Night is set in modern day Japan (2004 to be precise), but there's magic and mages living in secret.
Every so often 7 mages summon each an heroic spirit (a hero or villian from history and legend), becoming master and servant respectively, to participate in the Holy Grail War with the objective of obtaining the holy grail, which is said to be a wish granting device. The 7 servants each belong to a specific class that fits the skills of the heroic spirit, being saber, archer, lancer, rider, assassin, caster and berserker. Masters can command and control their servant by using command spells, which are stored as a red seal in their hand.
Shiro, the red haired boy and main protagonist, is the adoptive son of a mage and is therefore aware of magic, but despite his best efforts, he's not much of a mage, his magical power is very limited and because his adoptive father never shared much info with him, he's unaware of the Holy Grail War. That is until he becomes a witness of a battle between servants and is chased by one of them to be silenced. In order to defend himself, he ends up summoning the last missing servant for the war by accident. Now as the master of Saber, he has to participate in the Holy Grail War.

Big kudos for trying to piece together a plot of any kind from these openings. The problem is that Fate/ has three different timelines based on the original visual novel, so anything labeled "Unlimited Blade Works" is going to have different main characters from the "Fate" or plain "Fate/Stay Night" openings. I did get a kick out of how you picked out Shirou (the dude in normal clothes) so easily as "out of place." He very much is.

It's sooooo difficult to talk about the Fate/ universe without spoilers or other things. I'll try my best.
So, Fate/Stay Night is originaly an eroge, a game in the form of visual novel (a sort of story you read an in which you take decisions and choises while progressing in the story) with R18+ contents, for PC.
The Realta Nua version was a porting of that VN for PSP, in which they added more content in the form of all the intros you saw in the video.
The game consisted of 3 routes, named Fate, Unlimited Blade Works (UBW) and Heaven's Feel (HF), which are accessible depending on some choises you take in the first minutes of the story; the first time you play the game, you will play the routes in the above order.
You can't suggest anything about the plot, but you guessed right about the main characters. We appreciate your efforts nontheless!! :D
Only 4 of the opening you saw were from the anime.
"Disillusion" and "Kirameku..." are the openings of the Fate route anime adaptation, but that adaption is really badly made.
The 3rd and the 2nd from the last are the openings of the UBW route anime adaptation. It was made by Ufotable (the same of Demon Slayer), my favorite anime studio, and it's amazing. I recomend you to watch it.
Heaven's Feel was adapted as a trilogy of films by Ufotable. They are amazing and recomended to be seen.
Fate/Hollow Ataraxia is the sequel of Fate/Stay Night. It doesn't have an anime adaptation so far, but whoever played the game (this is also a VN) is hoping they will make one soon.
Fate/Zero is a prequel of Fate/Stay Night. It has an anime adaptation (it is a light novel originaly) and must be seen AFTER Fate/SN because contains spoilers (it was written after Fate/SN)
All others Fate/ series are spin-offs and stories that are possible only because of Fate/SN.
I think I said pretty much all I could without spoilers or saying too much. Now it's your turn to watch the series, play the games and discover the narrative world of the Fate/ series.
P.S: Sorry for my not so good English!!

I don't really know if people consider this a spoiler or not, but about the chronological order:
Every two openings (or so, just depends on how long that particular series is) there is a different timeline, about what could've happened. Sometimes the series are in different universes and sometimes they're in the same or similar universes (sometimes at different times, like in the past or future). It's not really something to get hung up over, fate is notoriously hard to understand solely on it's timeline. The show is very easy to understand if you take every series for what it is.

The better looking sequel to Fate/Stay Night is made by Ufotable (Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works or UBW; they also did Fate/Zero which is a prequel to Fate/Stay Night), who also did stuff like Demon Slayer which went mainstream on twitter and other social medias for it's animation. It's a good series but it has a very confusing timeline with all the different universes and points in time which some Fate stuff takes place in.
