Beskar, translates to Mandalorian Iron. It is very prized in the Star Wars universe given that it is one of the only materials that can stop a lightsaber, but also it is extremely protective and is nearly impervious to blasters, save for the heaviest weapons. And only the Mandalorians know how to make it.
the behind the scenes production for this series is phenomenal and definitely recommend checking out the videos you can find on The Volume and Stagecraft technology that was utilized. i know ILM has a few uploaded to their youtube channel. there is also a companion series called Disney: Gallery "The Mandalorian" that is 8-episodes of roundtable discussions with the actors, directors and more that goes into the making of that is a great watch as well.

@@Patriiiiick i think there are plans for at least for three more studios to be built equipped with The Volume technology in the near future; another in California, one at Pinewood and Australia. I know The Batman utilized technology similar to the volume (large lit led screens) recently during production. have to love being able to witness new innovations in technology.
Couple of neat notes about this episode and the series. This episode was directed by Dave Filoni, who was supervising director for The Clone Wars and Rebels cartoon series. This was his first time directing live action. Also, since you mentioned the music, the series' score was composed by Ludwig Göransson (Creed, Black Panther, Tenet).
The Mandalorian played by Pedro Pascal actually prepared for this role by watching Clint Eastwood and compared the character to him. Also the creators of this show wanted to go for a western style take on Star Wars so you're right about that. What makes the Mandalorian as a character so good is that his face is always covered but you can tell his behaviour and emotions via his body language so that's one of the things I love about this show, acting through physicality. This really is a good show and you can't help but be invested in the Mandalorian culture and respect it in a way as the show goes on.
As a massive Star Wars fan, it’s so cool to see you really enjoy this series. And I promise you, it’s only going to get better! Glad you’re enjoying this series my bro.
It looks that good, bacuse it's not filmed on greenscreen. It's projected in real life time on LCD scrrens. It's really interesting, you can look it up on youtube there's a lot of videos about it. Those guys are reinventing Television right now.
"I need to be that cool." My dude, you already are! Growing up, I never thought I'd say I liked a space western, but this pulls it off so fuggin' well!
You're gonna enjoy this series. I just got my wife hooked on it. It's done so well. The over arching story is always present, but I love how each episode feels contained and you have that nostalgic "what NEW adventure will happen next week?" There are a lot of awesome little easter eggs too that call back to both the original trilogy as well as the prequels. It's one of the few things on Disney+ that I actually enjoy lol Also I love all the practical effects. CG is used really well but not with every single scene.
You should look up behind the scenes to see what they use. They legit bought like a huge screen where they stand in front of and it displays the scenes on it. So when they film, all the lighting looks natural.
It makes it easier for the actors as well since they can see the sort of environment they are supposed to be interacting with, rather than just blank screens and placeholders.
I’ve watched both seasons twice already. Love how you analyze. It’s spot on for me as well. If I could, I would love to get into filmmaking like I wanted to when I was a kid. A writer or director... pretty much behind the camera. Love your channel.
it was pretty hype watching this for the first time with zero spoilers. I didn't even watch the entire first trailer so lots was surprising. Loved how they handled it.
I love Brian Posehn's cameo as the cab driver at the beginning. If you get a chance, you should check out his stand up bit about his love/hate relationship with Star Wars
The mandalorian is shot in a room with the environment projected onto the walls and floor for the actors to be more immersed and interact with the environment better. Also they use an imax camera for a lot of shots.
If you have about 10 minutes to spare to watch "Astartes Parts 1-5" that would be incredible. It's a film project by one guy for Warhammer 40k, not endorsed or funded by Games Workshop who owns the property, or any other than his (now) large Patreon community. The whole thing is phenomenal from a filmmaking perspective. The story will probably make 0 sense without doing a ton of research first, but a raw reaction would be fuckin dope
IG-11 is played by Taika Waititi. He also directed Jojo Rabbit for which he won the oscar for best adapted screenplay. He also directed Thor Ragnorak and What We Do in the Shadows. He's a great filmmaker
Mandalorians in lore were always super badass commandoes and legendary conquerers, yes. There's a reason a guy in Mandalorian armor was chosen as the template for the cloned Grand Army of the Republic.
Great reaction, this is almost classic star wars in the feeling and flow for sure! That opening gun fight with IG-11against the bad guys in the town square was a little like the western "Butch Cassady and the Sundance Kid" shootout at the end...except they live, lol!
they did a making of documentary for this show that is so mind blowing that it would make a good reaction. Its a series on disney plus. They use 0 green screen in the entire show
One of the things I'm impressed with, and you'll see it later in the series, is how you can tell the emotions he's feeling even if you can't see his face. I mean...that could have totally made this series fail if they didn't allow you to still "feel" what his emotions were telling us since we are so used to decoding emotion via people's faces. It's impressive...and great story telling.
There's a lot of different inspirations involved with the Mandalorian. The strongest elements are obviously the spaghetti western styles that are evident, but there's also elements of Kurosawa style samurai tales. In fact, the idea of a samurai traveling with a child is more or less drawn from the old Japanese manga "Lone Wolf and Cub" (which was released as a film called Shogun Assassin in the west).
James! I love how you dissect television show and films, and I would love to see you react to the television show Hannibal on Netflix. I'm really interested in what you'd think about the cinematography, editing, music etc. from the show.
