I was 13 years old. This was my first taste of grief from being a Sox fan. ( I have faint memories of 78 but was only 5 at the time). My first Sox pennant. My first Sox 1st place finish. The entire season was incredible. Even 4 titles later this one hurts. My favorite Sox team. And one of the best ever. As great as Clemens was that year, it was Hurst and Barrett that were the heroes of that fall. They should of won this one. The Mets had a season for the ages, but the Sox were the better team.
Smokey Robinson's anthem at 3:55 was interesting. Beautiful rendition but a little surprised he just switched up to America the Beautiful at the end. I'll put that under "well-intentioned but questionable". I wonder how this move was received. He sure got a good hand here at Fenway, they seemed to enjoy it. I just know anytime someone deviates from the script like this doing an anthem, usually a lot of people have some things to say about it. EDIT: Well, looks like most people seem to have loved it and it's considered one of the all time top anthem renditions. I'm glad. It certainly had a deep sincerity to it and it did sound really nice.
1986. By far the greatest MLB postseason that I ever saw. And I'm old. Red Sox-Angels. Mets-Astros. Mets-Red Sox.

I watched it live and loved it... very moving rendition!
even though the mets lost this game they still must of felt really good knowing they were going back home for game 6
after the mets tied the series 2 2 it was over for the red sox
