The media tends to help along these narratives by calling girls "women" child victims in general as "young people" and r*pe/SA as "intercourse" or "s*x".
Media is complicit. Once you start paying attention to the language that so called journalists use in their articles (see also: reporting on police brutality) you lose a lot of faith.

When a perpetrator, reflecting on his behaviour, refers to his ten year old victim as a "young woman", you know he's still dangerous.
That he can equate a ten year old child with being a woman proves this beyond any doubt.

The whole issue with women/people letting bad behaviour slide because we're afraid to be "rude" is such a huge, and underestimated, reason why so much abuse happens or continues. The amount of stuff I have excused or put up with because I was afraid of "offending" someone is awful, and I know I'm not the only one.. Edit: When I say this, I don't mean it's the victim's fault. I mean that we should be raising our children with self-confidence and autonomy, so they feel like they're able to speak up. Forcing kids to hug people when they don't want to is a huge no-go (in my opinion). Our children deserve to feel confident and secure enough to speak up, and it's the parents' job to help foster that confidence. It's NEVER the victim's fault when they're abused. That is not what I'm saying; just that our children deserve to be raised to be confident and self-assured.
Edit: I also think it's ridiculous that there's a statute of limitations on SA crimes, especially child SA. So many people don't ever see justice because they didn't find their voice until it was too late.

I guess what I’m saying is, even for a pedophile, he has more integrity than the others who have done the same, and worse, who deny it and never take responsibility at all. One of the ultimate lies told by predators “yes I did what I did but I didn’t get sexual gratification and I’m not attracted to children”. It NEVER makes sense. People don’t just do things, especially major decisions with significant consequences, without some kind of reason. If it’s a power thing, then fine, that’s still very problematic. One of the best changes in parenting I have noticed is that they have learned to stop forcing children to 'give Granpa a hug' and it's now about ASKING a child for a hug, and respecting when they don't feel like it, giving them bodily autonomy. It's an awesome cultural change that will help stop abuse. I don't have children but I worry about my nieces and nephews, probably too much because of my own creepy experiences..

Every time there was an extended family gathering or even just going to my Aunty's house it was expected I would kiss this man. He was actually a really kind man but I remember he was even embarrassed. I would kiss his cheek then my mother and Aunty would laugh and say "kiss him on the lips". It was just an awful feeling. I felt humiliated and very uncomfortable.

We moved to the US when I was 8 which is very long ago and the biggest shock to us was you had to kiss everyone one on both cheeks for us that was people we had never met before and we all hated it. In my country you just shook hands:) One thing I hope will change too which seems to be a normal thing to Americans is beating your kids and often with a belt. I have seen people write about it on Facebook how that is the only way to make them good people which is not true it teaches them to be violent and not trust their parents. In my country it's against the law to hit your child. We have never used belts but in the old days you could get a spanking with the hand but this has been against the law for a very long time. Seeing all the comments here from people having been molested by their dads and mothers not believing them just makes me so very sad because it's double betrayal. Best wishes to you!!

I have family members who still downplay and explain away what happened to me, because they can't come to terms with the idea that a trusted family friend would do this. It's also worth noting that this was before MeToo, and there is a LONG history of the media (and, by extension, the public) demonizing and discrediting victims and whistleblowers of SA. Not to mention that women/girls are taught from childhood to always put the feelings of men/boys first, to appease them, and to explain away their indiscretions. At the end of the day, Faye was NOT responsible for HIS behavior, and the kind of shock she must have experienced when she first learned about his misdeeds would have been earth-shattering. Faye was _also_ a victim of this man, just not in the way his other victims were, so the fact that people are going to find a way to blame _her_ for things shows how much farther we need to go in our understanding of abuse.

It seems to be a hallmark of unreformed criminals. I've watched plenty of interviews with people who were serving a prison sentence, many of them murderers. They all used veiled language when they spoke about why they were in prison. "That night, a man died". What the woman actually did: She took part in a breaking and entering robbery and when things escalated, she shot a man dead. "I'm in because of the murder of my wife." What the man actually did: He strangled his wife to death. -- I think as long as you cannot bring yourself to say: "I killed", "I raped", "I molested" if you did those things instead of talking about things happening, you are not reformed yet.

It is really sick, especially when he was that trusted father in 7th Heaven we all felt we could trust in real life. Even in our acting industry (SAG-AFTRA) we learn that sometimes meeting our heroes can sometimes be a let down, thankfully I never worked with him on set and would outright refuse it, too. Last I heard he was blacklisted, but he is in the L.A. region which things are much different than ours in the Northeast region. They tend to turn the cheek over there, and although our Union rules are the same across the nation some directors turn their head and allow monsters like him to work when the roles should go to another actor/actress who holds the high standards are we all do, and not to these monsters... He should be spending his life in prison for what he did to these children and it made me cringe when he called the ten year old girl a "young woman"...makes me want to vomit.

@@scypsylock9402 To me it is almost like if you are rich or/and famous, especially living in L.A., you can get away with nearly anything, even molesting children. They have the money and the influence on others to simply get away with the crime even when they admit to doing it. Like Stephen, he f*ing admitted to it and nothing was done. Yes, he was blacklisted but where is the legal punishment?? Where is the justice for his victims? Toss his a*s in prison, that is what should have happened. Those who turned their heads and ignored it should be right along with him, for allowing it to occur and not saying or doing anything to prevent it. Hearing him call the 10-year-old a "young woman" is sickening, infuriating and I too must admit made me want to vomit.
He can be in therapy for the rest of his life, but in my opinion, you can't cure predators. They will always have the want to abuse another victim, but hopefully, learn to control their impulses but so many end up abusing again. It would not surprise me if he has done it again after he claims he stopped or if there are actually even more victims that we simply don't know about.
I really hope he hasn't and never will again, however, as I said, I believe he will always have those urges to abuse, so it probably will or already has happened again.

How funny that the two shows being compared were That 70’s Show and 7th Heaven, both starring serial sex offenders.

I’m really happy you called out the fact that these were children and NOT young women.
I’m always a fan of ethical channels and you’re always on point. Good to know there is a decent human being behind the best crime channel on YT that just so happens to be my favorite 💜

Whoa whoa - I saw the title and I'm at minute 2 with my eyes ripped wide. Stephen Collins??! When did this happen?? I'm among the many who didn't know!
Also, thank you dreading for slowing down the pace of speech and editing. 🙇🏿‍♀️
(Edit) Finished watching. States have seriously got to remove statute of limitations on prosecuting child molestation! But there are just too many people in the system making sure it doesn't happen.

I think the statute of limitations on child molestation should be the same as murder. There shouldn’t be a statute of limitations. It is a horrible crime. The child has to live with it for the rest of their life. Why doesn’t the molester have to live with it the rest of his life. He should be in jail for life. Just like the child.

The irony of him doing this IRL while he was a minister on a show is just... Wow.
