SARMAT was a response to the US withdrawing from the ABM treaty of 2001. This treaty ensured global parity and mutually assured destruction which gave stability. But the US tried to gain the upper hand. So Russia responded creating weapons designed to beat the US Global Anti missile system.
Yeah, it's worth noting that Russia and Putin were on relatively good terms with the US until the withdrawal of the ABM treaty and then fucking Bush wanting to put antimissile systems in Poland. It totally convinced Russia that the US was not to be trusted and was shifting to a more aggressive stance towards them.

ICBM's have been "russian nesting dolls" since the late 60's. In the 2000's an AVERAGE Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) could carry up to 16 independently targetable warheads at a time. What really sets this one apart is the "hypersonic" part.
Not exactly true, a ICBM has to be hypersonic to be on a trajectory that would make it intercontinental (pretty important for a ICBM). Even the German WWII V-2 missiles would nearly reach hypersonic speeds.
@@Fhcghcg1 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️ Missiles go "Supersonic" (Mach 1-4). Hypersonic is 5-28 times the speed of sound. Hypersonic weapons, because they're going so fast, are not restricted to traditional ballistic path. They are smart devices with such an array of sensors they could fly autonomously around enemy defenses, and then give up their intended target at the last minute by diving straight down when overhead. Also, due to their incredible speed, no warhead is actually needed on a hypersonic missle. The kinetic energy alone would yeild something close to a tactical nuclear weapon.
@@Fhcghcg1 And the V-2 reached SUPERSONIC speeds... not hypersonic. 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
@@Fhcghcg1 Also, ICBM's go SUPERSONIC, not hypersonic. And you wouldn't really call a hypersonic weapon "ballistic". They have so much momentum, speed, and therefore, energy that they are not restricted to traditional ballistic path, and often purposefully attempt to maintain just the opposite. The are very smart and very very fast.
@@Fhcghcg1 ICBM are hypersonic any rocket capable of reaching orbit needs to be at hypersonic speeds. The difference between the next generation ICBM is in it's targeting system and Anti ballistic missile avoidance systems. Avengard has the capability to Autonomously select its intended target while having vector thrust missile avoidance capabilities.

For those that don't know, thermonuclear weapons do age out and expire. Especially dial a yield weapons that depend on tritium. Most only last about ten years then have to be replaced. We have never stopped building new weapons, you just don't hear about it anymore.
INteresting, do you mean that the existing ones get recycled/reconditioned or do you really mean new ones made from scratch? My guess is that they would at least reuse the fissile material from the old warheads to make the new ones.
@@alexisrivera200xable yes they in fact do reprocess existing fissile materials but they also constantly produce new materials all the time at places like Savannah River and Oak Ridge
@@marcmcfarland1153 Thanks for your reply. With all the talk of nuclear arsenal reduction over the years I was under the impression that we were just maintaining the stockpile rather than adding new stuff to it.
From my understanding the first to come up with a fusion trigger vs fission will have a much much cleaner nuke. I often wonder if all the nuclear research computing power is going toward that goal. I could be mistaken on both parts.

The ejection of the initial boost stage that pops the missile out of its silo is oddly satisfying.
They may have targeted Florida because MacDill AFB is Central Command and USSOCOM headquarters, there’s a Naval Air Station in both Jacksonville and the Keys, and a squadron of F-22s at Tyndall AFB, and Patrick AFB is a USAF Space Command base. Plus General Dynamics, Raytheon, and several other defense industry companies are in FL. Part of the reason my mom panicked on 9/11 and pulled me out of school, she thought the Bay Area might have been another potential target.
southern command is also located in Miami and Lockheed Martin is based in Orlando. I've lived in both those cities and I used to drive by those places all the time.

During the Cuban Missile Crisis, one man, Vasily Arkhipov
would not give in to using a nuclear torpedo against U.S.
surface ships.
Because of his courage this is what was said of him:
In 2002, Thomas Blanton, who was then director of the
US National Security Archive, said that Arkhipov "saved the world"
Vasili Aleksandrovich Arkhipov 30 January 1926 - 19 August 1998) was a Soviet Navy officer credited with preventing a Soviet nuclear strike (and, potentially, all-out nuclear war) during the Cuban Missile Crisis

13:33 it is very likely, that Putin would love this kind of bashing any day of the week. Not only wouldn't he feel bashed of offended, but rather pleased and, who knows, even amused and aroused up to a point it is allowed by the modern medicine at his age.
I'll just sit back and watch it all unfold cause this is crazier than any movie I have watched
Lol!
So our system can detect nuclear launch and respond within 30 minutes. Hence the term "minutemen".
This missle can get from Moscow US within 35 minutes. That means that we will only have 5 minute warning. What's even scarier is that they can be put on trucks and even in shipping containers. If launched from a Russian freighter on the ocean, we'd literally have no warning.
Calling an ICBM "hypersonic" is an oxymoron as all ICBM's are Hypersonic when re-entering the atmosphere. The "upgrade" of this missile is that it accelerates into orbit much faster, giving U.S. Infra red tracking satellites less time to identify and track the missile. The Satan-2 also can carry up to FIFTEEN Independently maneuverable re-entry nuclear warheads. While the missile can maneuver, I have not see anything that says it can fly through valleys and around mountains, but being able to modify it's ballistic arc does give it an advantage in that it makes it harder to predict the track in order to intercept.
Exactly. That is why Putin will never allow install NATO facilities in Ukrania. Because the nearer NATO antimissile system are from the border, the most probability to destroy those missiles when taking off.
The US doesnt only use satellites to track ICBM's
A 16,000 mph missile isn't going to be 'weaving around' anything
That's not all. It can literally go into one direction, fire decoys, and take a different path. It can even make a complete uturn and circumnavigate the globe the other direction.
Do you know what oxymoron means?
In Russia, you do not launch missile. Missile launches you.
😀
Lol
I’ve got news for you, all ICBM are hypersonic and most carry more than one warhead (MIRVs).

Hey Simon, great video! I don't know which of your channels would be most appropriate, but you should do one on the missing nukes of the world. Keep up the great work.
The reason Putin picked Florida is because of MacDill Air Force Base, the home of CENTCOM.
MacDill is also home to USSOCOM. As someone who lives in the Tampa Bay area I know once the missiles start flying that's pretty much it.
They could also go up the coast and tag Tyndall and ground a bunch of drones, Florida unfortunately has a plethora of targets

Far as I'm aware the US hasn't even managed a working hypersonic missile yet, only China and Russia. And we have no way to stop the missiles, they're simply too damn fast.
Wrong. THAAD(terminal high altitude air defense) goes Mach 8.2. SM3 block 2A goes Mach 16-18. SM6 block 1b or 2A will go atleast Mach 5. The US is the only country in the world that has proven itself capable of intercepting hypersonic missiles. AEGIS the radar that guides the SM3 and SM6 I mentioned isn’t a limitation either, it can target hypersonic missiles. The US has gone a different route with anti ship missiles. Instead of speed to counter missile defenses we went with stealth. Missiles like the Norwegian NSM(naval strike missile) in operation by the US or the AGM 158 both have reduced radar cross sections as well as reduced IR signatures. Stealth plus the fact it is subsonic which allows for high g maneuvering will make it very difficult to defend against. No hypersonic missile can do high g maneuvers to evade a CIWS or similar.
@@cadennorris960 Thank you for explaining that. Would be interested to see a video on what is known about everyone's hypersonic missiles and defenses.
There are not only one but two heavily classified programs at both Raytheon and Lockheed with the capabilities to counter a hypersonic missle.

That "deployed in 2022" bit might be a bit on the nose!
If you are moving at hypersonic speed, you don't need to fool heat seekers. You outrun them without issue. Even if launched well ahead of you, they are targeting your exhaust and will therefore intercept a point behind you and still need to give chase, which will be hopeless.
They still can be targeting your future location and successfully intercept you.
if I were you, I would run some tests on the next batch of that protein cereal before eating it...
This reminds me of when Putin unveiled his new tank in a parade and it broke down in front of millions of people.
Russia's problem is they don't have enough money. They already spend 4 % of their GDP for military, but for an army this size its not enough if they want to use modern weapon systems. So most of their tanks are still from Soviet era, and most of their aircraft too.
T-14s are expensive, they can't simply replace hundreds or thousands of older types with them. They also can't replace much of their Soviet era aircraft with modern SU-57s.
This video aged well :(
Super fast nuclear weapons. Yeah, that's exactly what the world needs right now.
well, seeing what western intervention did in the Afghanistanm I think this is exactly what the world needs
Nukes have been super fast (around 30 mins top) to deliver since late 60's. This is merely a new way. (probably, if it exists at all in any meaningful numbers)
@@overlord4404 The Soviets failed as well. Lost a lot of men for nothing. That area needs to be watched and that's it, not worth trying to save.
@@jeffm2787 ok and? I mean last time I checked soviets were fighting against the people who now became the taliban, al qaeda, ISIS and othe terror groups. They did lose but I wonder what would have been if certain nation didnt decide to arm them.
@@overlord4404 Without a doubt. Most of the superpowers just keep playing this same game with the pawns.
If that can do Mach 20 at only 30-100m of altitude for radar evasion that's pretty impressive. What's it made of to withstand getting white hot from air compression and friction and yet not exploding within the first few miles in midair like a meteor?
And the shockwave created by moving faster than the speed of sound will probably set off multiple seismic sensors if it's flying at low altitude.
@@dekoldrick 15,000 mph is about the same speed as a fault rupture propagates = it would just look like a 1 of 100's of small earthquakes that happen daily if it flew along the fault line. And even if you knew it was coming with only 5 mins of warning no other plane or missile would be fast enough to intercept it anyway unless it's a laser (make it reflective), most of the trip is over the ocean where there are no seismic sensors.
the nukes carried on American subs have the option of a tip that breaks into 14 smaller nukes and can target individual targets as well. They also travel at 17000mph sub orbit, but still. They could get from say north dakota to moscow in 20 mins or less. Those subs are always off the coast of China and Japan. So, a strike would be about 5 mins tops. 24 nukes that can break into 14 smaller ones in 5 minutes could do some damage. Each sub would technically be capable of nuking 336 different targets at once.
Slbms are a reserve to prevent a country trying to destroy land based missile silos. This strategy goes back to Robert McNamara, which invented so called mutually assured destruction.
If an attack always leads to the own annihilation it prevents a country starting an attack from beginning on.
It's the type and amount of decoys that are the major problem in defeating this weapon.
let's enjoy Simon as much as we can, he's surely targeted by the KGB!
Better check those bottled waters 2 or 3 times just to be safe!!
If it were 20+ years ago that would make sense. Something like ФСБ would be more fitting.
This is equally fascinating as it is terrifying.
Damn I didn’t have my glasses on I thought it was Vsauce
If this happens you know the aliens are gonna show up to watch at least.
Lol
Simon, you’re the living proof a guy doesn’t need hair on top to be handsome ! 💋
Never underestimate the deviousness of Putin. That would be a fatal mistake for any government.
fatal mistake is forcing russia to rely on such individual. the west had their chance in the 90s when russia was not even a shadow of what it was to gain a valuable ally , but the puppet master decided that it was better to have a future enemy to justify the military budget
@Horseshoe Party thank you. It's super hard for me to verbalize this. I've been telling folks it's all a puppet show since before blm. Left and right are tools to cause division. I thought how interesting it was that smart phones became so abundant and so affordable so quickly, but Medicare is still a pipe dream for many. Now elon musk is talking about neuro link.... It bothers me how close to 1984 it's getting.
@@overlord4404 Who was this "puppet master"? I can think of thred or four likely candidates.
@@owenshebbeare2999 It's whichever guy I don't like at the moment.
Why Florida you ask? Because Disney world is an iconic representation of the freedom of America, Putin always hated Mickey Mouse.
