Really dig this one. I was playing a duo with my friend and I had the huge ship with tons of cargo space, and he had a much smaller more maneuverable ship and flanked the enemies while my deck cannons blasted them, and then I could hold all the stuff for repairs afterwards. It does need some more stuff, but it's a great game already.
About disabling ships. While taking out the reactor or cockpit is the most obvious way to neutralise a shop, you can also disable a ship by destroying all engines and weapons. It will take longer but this allows you to harvest the much more valuable components (in the early game) like computer chips and reactor fuel.
When this game was in early access, I was in highschool. I’m now in my final year of a 5 year university degree and it’s still in early access! Still a fantastic game though
That's how I feel about Hytale, trailer released when I was 12, I've now been at university living alone for two years, have a job, still waiting on the game. Still excited for it though, and I've been waiting so long that I do not mind waiting years longer as long as they use that time to make it amazing.
“Save attack defaults” saves the distance, angle from front, and ship rotation that you currently have plotted (whatever position the red shadow is in). That’s also how you would make a ship rotate when it enters combat - it will rotate the new direction once it’s in range.
Space. The final frontier. These are the voyages of the Quillian Enterprise. It's continuing Let's Play mission, to destroy strange new worlds, blow up pirates with the most OP weaponry, to boldly line his pockets where no man has profited before!
This game looks a little bit like the board game Space Alert with the physical moving of material and the need for crew to operate the various systems. Looks great!
Can definitely vouch for Cosmoteer! It’s a delightful little game with surprisingly deep gameplay and charming presentation. It’s definitely more of a builder or PvP game in it’s current state, but Career mode is still a fun way to sink a handful of hours into, even if only once.
Gives me FTL vibes, looks like they took some of that formula then beefed it up further, turned it into a more of a free-roaming rogue-like thing. Pretty cool.
definitely like seeing your take on this game, I have been enjoying it, I have turned off the fog and clouds update as I still ahve not completed it before the change. to me pre update is vanilla and I want to finish what I started. you mention running more than one ship. I have upgraded the Type-S starter ship and now have a great vessel which easily handles the 1-4 stuff and I created a second sister ship and now have them clearing level 4-6 together. I ahve maxed the command points out to 49 and run twin large blasters and the next size thrusters gave it some armour and the second ship I traded one of the large blasters for two disruptors. over all I am loving the game. making this a three part series sonds like a great idea to me. I currently have 74 hours into the game.
4:06 Kind of amusing when you think about it. This space age mimics the old steam age where direct manpower was needed to maintain energy production. Instead of shoveling coal these redshirts are shoveling.. i dunno what..... It is glowing which makes me a bit uneasy about the possible long term health effects for them another link with the steam age as handling coal wasnt exactly a healthy lifestyle.
I love Cosmoteer as well. Got it a long time ago, played a bit. (So long ago, Steam won't tell me.) Then I set the title down to go play other games. But my brother bought the game two years ago, and a bunch of use played a bit on a multiplayer server he set up. Again, set the title down to play other games. Then they came out with the clouds update, so I picked it up again. It is DEFINITELY well put together and worth your time and money. You may only play it 20 to 40 hours the first time through, but you WILL come back to it at some point. :D
Cosmoteer also missing the simulation of the crew you know? Bathrooms, food, water. There is the time in space before they don't have anymore air and die, but the ship is missing the air generation component. Would be nice to have ice asteroids and converters to turn water into air.
Been a fan of this game for years! Would you like to make mod showcases at some point? Some mods like Extended Tech Tree really bring Cosmoteer to live.
I recently got this game, played it for about 2 hours. It was alright, but it just made me want to play Avorion instead. So I reinstalled that and im playing it again. I like my spaceship games to be more sandboxy. and Cosmoteer isnt. It pretends to be, but once you realize nothing respawns and your just leaving a woke of empty, lifless sectors behind you, its a downer. Also the combat is SUPER limited, with only a hand full of weapon types. I like the idea of building your ship with internal logistics in mind. It just doesnt have enough toys to play with and combat is very punishing, because again enemys and resources are finite you can pretty easly softlock your self on the first run if you dont realize armor is a HUGE importance fast enough. They also give you missions to destroy pirate bases that you, as far as I can tell, can no way handle that early. I wasted loads of money and resources trying to poke at them before funds ran dry and I had to move on. Like I said, just made me want to play avorion instead where I can have a carrier or missile swarm boat. two things I like that Cosmoteer cant do yet. but drones are on the list, just way down it. Maybe in a year or two it will have enough toys and features that it feels like a complete game rather than a brief demo or proof of concept. Its a good proof of concept, just needs more time in the oven.
I agree with you. I posted a comment suggesting Quill18 to install "Maltis" overhall modpack. Regarding the finite resources, the game often spawn a "trader ship" which the purpose is to only to go one of the 3 station and buy/sell resources. It is a boring process but you can get all you need by spending some time looking at the resources those ships sell. You made me remember of SPAZ. Oh that game was good. But i didn't like SPAZ-2. It looks nice, but feels like it killed the game.
Seeing this after Ostranauts is such a juxtaposition in design. Looks very performant, quality UI, quality of life, cohesion in design.. compared to bad performance, obtuse UI, very lacking QoL, and some cohesion issues, nevermind a plethora of game breaking bugs; something I assume cosmoteer doesn't have. Both are $20. Ostranauts went into EA 2 years before Cosmoteer. Sure says a lot about the development process.
"Here is a really interesting game with a ton of customization options where you can create your own story (and fleet!). Let's see if people want to watch it." Friend, who do you think we are?
"gameplay gets repetitive after 20 hours" this is a perfectly reasonable opinion, i just want to say that i have over 300 hours on this game, 2/3rds of which isnt from the campaign or multiplayer.. there are lots of things to do in this game, like making fleets, honing building skills, or just fighting ai ships against eachother. this game is very good, and the devs definitely know what they are doing, even if the game has been in ea for a while.
This Let's Play may force me to get back into this one. I loved my playthrough earlier, though I did hit a little bit of a wall at one point. It was my design, though - I started losing consistently to enemies. I also can't paint the ships for the life of me. Absolutely terrible at it.
20 hours? I have 200 😂. It's just one of those games that's like, once you get to the final areas of level 25-30, it becomes unnecessary to continue until you wanna do another new run :D
@@Goldomnivore early access, while i'm not saying that this one will get stuck in limbo or not be worth it just TONS of games out there right now and unfinished or works in progress are hard for me personally to jump into. All that said, i'm liking what i'm seeing in his lets plays, hope for more.
I really want to love this game, nearly everything about it is done well and in ways I like - but I just can't get over one stumbling block. Unfortunately, it's kinda tied to the fundamental basis of the game:Having to have a bunch of folk literally carrying batteries around to power your systems. It certainly is, yes, sorry - breaking my immersion for a sci-fi space combat & exploration game. If the power system was fully automated, but there were instead management & maintainance tasks for your crew to keep that system optimal, it would, to me at least, feel so much better than physically lugging around power. Of course, having such systems would enable the option of more damage control - including lugging around batteries & activating backup power generators & such. When you're carrying batteries then, you know things have gone wrong!
I think Q played Endless Sky a year or so ago, but I don't remember him ever looking at StarSector :( I also wish he'd continue looking at X4 (or even X3): the previous miniseries minilooks didn't cover anything like the scope, potential or features of Egosoft's offerings. That being said, I do understand his time constraints: there's not much advantage for a fulltime CC committing to a >100hr series unless the channel's subscriber base (hence viewing figures) justifies it :(
I bought it a while ago and liked it. For the career mode the framework is there, but it feels very bare-bone and imbalanced. I really hope they will add more to it in the future. Seeing that the developer mostly focuses on technical improvements makes me not so optimistic about it.
The community really got our value out of that map editor huh? So many great and different things were made in wc3. It's a shame blizzard ain't about that anymore...
The physics animation when the ship turns and uses the thrusters to nudge it into place 😍😍😍
You have a gift when it comes to describing things. Appreciate your content.
You know words. Thanks.

looking forward to seeing if quill's ship turns into a monstrosity

I was hooked!
You got me with the “feeling spicy” comment. Bell has been hit!
looks very interesting, i love these games where you can design your ship the way you want, so much more personal and unique.

so excited for this series, the game looks very interesting and well built
Love this game, cant wait to see more of it!!
This looks really engaging. I love all the space games lately
I’m so excited you’re finally playing this
Super excited for a Cosmoteer playthru! Hope it's 32,000 ep long haha!
Gives me FTL vibes, looks like they took some of that formula then beefed it up further, turned it into a more of a free-roaming rogue-like thing. Pretty cool.
The dev wasn't particularly inspired by any game, Cosmoteer was made before FTL.
Excellent start Quill, excited to see more!
I bought it say one and i loved every moment playing it.

As man with 182 hours in cosmoteer I completely agree with the thumb nail
Already got this - but not started it, so appreciate the hints !
16:30 that's a very... erm... uhm.... Interesting ship on the right of the station there.
"After 20 hours, I've seen it all."
_After 2 hours of CoD you've seen it all, and that costs a lot more._
For the Algorithm!
And smash those next episodes!
This game is giving me Galaxy Trucker vibes..
Lets gooooo! Cosmoteer appreciation! I love this gaaaaame!

Love this game. I still get my ships stuck on asteroids when flying in formation but everything else about it is golden. 😊
this game is so cool
Great looking game
This reminds of the last starships from the prison architect devs, also in early access. But this game looks to be well underway
Have a great day!
Not sure if Quill mentioned it in the beginning, but there is a free demo of the game if you want to give it a try.
