- Fly Me To The Moon (tribute to Frank Sinatra)
I am using a 1959 Gibson ES-125T (thinline) and a Quilter 101 mini reverb head, pine cabinet that I built with 10" Eminence lil' buddy (Hemp coned speaker). The mic is the industry standard Royer r121 run into a Cloud Cl-1 Cloudlifter to boost the signal, Apogee Duet interface into a iMac using Logic proX. Video is shot with an Iphone X (4k) and synced in Logic. Then video is edited in iMovie (fades in and out), exported in 4k and uploaded to RUclips.
Solo version of the 1954 jazz standard "Fly Me to the Moon", by Bart Howard. From Wikipedia: Kaye Ballard made the first recording of the song the year it was written. Frank Sinatra's 1964 version was closely associated with the Apollo missions to the Moon.
In 1954, when he began to write the song that became "Fly Me to the Moon", Bart Howard had been pursuing a career in music for over 20 years.[2] He played piano to accompany cabaret singers, but also wrote songs with Cole Porter, his idol, in mind.[3] In response to a publisher's request for a simpler song,[4] Bart Howard wrote a cabaret ballad[5] which he titled "In Other Words". A publisher tried to make him change some words from "fly me to the Moon" to "take me to the Moon," but Howard refused.[6] Many years later Howard commented that "... it took me 20 years to find out how to write a song in 20 minutes."[6]
He used his position as a piano accompanist and presenter at the Blue Angel cabaret venue to promote the song,[4] and it was soon introduced in cabaret performances by Felicia Sanders.[3]
The song was composed in 3/4 time signature but was changed to 4/4 by Quincy Jones in his arrangement. - Wikipedia

I enjoy your style....not too flashy with just the right touch of embellishments, chord tones and emotion. Rain off the metal porch roof sounds perfect with you.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Le son, le style, le touché...une approche sensible et juste de l'interprétation. Comme d'habitude le résultat est magnifique.
Thank you!
Your playing is the style I have always tried to do. It talks to my soul. Calming and sweet. Sort of like Joe Pass.
Thank you!
Simply the quintessential jazz guitar. Less is more. Wonderful playing as usual :)
Thank you 🙏🏻
If I could click "like" every time I've come back to enjoy this arrangement, you'd have...well... a lot more likes.
Thank you!
your chord melodies really bring frank sinatras music to life...his style...his time feel...thanks.
Thank you Karl
Давно подобной игры не слышал. Настоящий джазовый гитарист!.. Премного благодарен. (I haven't heard such a playing guitar a long time. A real jazz guitarist!.. Thank you very much.)
Thank you!
Just let me catch whoever disliked this! Clearly they have no soul. Beautiful as always man.
Ha yes the same here how the f could his playing get a thumbs down
Agree...not sure how you "dislike" something like this.
thanks for the support guys
Dislike!? Let's think that they did have a look and tried to listen but as yet need to acquire the musical appreciation and talent to play with such feeling. One day hopefully that day will come to them.
Thank you Chris, all your video clips are tastefully played and so relaxing to listen to.
The guy just doesn’t have a good ear for Chris’ subtlety. Chris is one of the best jazz players around.
Not only do you have great technique, but more importantly, magnificent feel!
Thank you Craig!
Just beautiful. Your posts during all this isolation have been an absolute gift. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks Paul
For so many reasons, this song holds special meaning for me. Your treatment of it in this arrangement moved me to tears. Just beautiful.
Many blessings. Hope our paths cross one day, so that I can hear you live.
Thank you and
Many blessings 🌠🎶☮️
Thank you Nancy!
Liked after the first note. Beautiful arrangement man!
Thanks Chase!
Omg I agree 1000% such a beautiful arrangement
Totally engrossing. I am going to watch this over and over. So many great ideas in one 3min arrangement.
Thank you
Lovely. God, that ES-125 tone just slays me.
Flat-wound 12s?
Thank you Allan. They are daddario roundwounds. 12-54
A great rendition to this lovely tune.
Thank you!
ajme, kakav kraj drugog dijela, ovo je predobro, fantastično, tako fino, mekano, bas line na kraju tak je sve obogatio, bravo, bravo, bravo 💫✨👏👏👏✨💫
Thank you!!!!
Must have taken a lot of planning and effort to come up with this version! Loved this rendition! ♥️♥️ very inspiring for jazz guitarists
CHRIS WHITEMAN. You have provided me with the inspiration and the means i need to play the music I truly love. This music, your wonderful arrangements, your sublime ear + touch and glances at your fretboard are all I need to really do my thing bro. i tell you though, the tab/notation is always SUCH A BLESSING but god damn don't let anything keep you from playing that guitar man. Peace and love
Thanks James
Really nice. .. maintains the flow and beauty of the melody at all times, as improvisation creeps in.
Thanks for listening
Pure artistry! Just great!
Thank you William!
I am confident "Lady Macbeth" AKA "Ol' Blue Eyes" would approve of this thoughtfully arranged tribute. There is a certain characteristic, a certain sophistication, a certain energy unique to your music - it is instantly recognisable. The tone of the amp and instrument combined with the signature phrasing of chords and single notes brings it all together. I feel that someone could learn this piece note for note and play it perfectly on time, but to the informed listener it would be missing a certain feel that can only be produced by the artist.
Thank you Alfred. I appreciate your comments here.
Nice tribute to the Voice. Your arrangments are always melodic and unique. Thanks for your effort.
Thanks Mike
Chris, this arrangement is hands down one of the best I’ve ever heard for this tune on guitar! So full of colour & the way you have the harmony moving around the melody is just exquisite. Can I kindly request that you make this arrangement available as a tab for purchase? I would love to learn it!
Thank you Anthony! I just need to find the time to transcribe it
Helplessly beautiful.. Mr. Sinatra would love it.
Thank you Taehee
Great arrangement and playing. That guitar sounds brilliant. I have recently been learning a version of this piece.
I love jazz and tunes like this, though for me, the essential musical problem with most jazz, is that it is a ‘theme and variations’ format. Once stated, the tune or theme can only be repeated, albeit with subtle alterations in the melody and harmony. It is never ending.
I find this style of music requires a level of musicianship and discipline I have never possessed.
In this respect, classical musical forms are easier to handle for me, mentally.
Thank you!
Beautiful Chris! Covering a fellow Jersey boy I like it. Your posts have been a real inspiration and escape during these trying times. Thank you.
Jed! Thank you!
Clarity and beauty - TY.
Thank you!
you are really good, your trascriptios are a compendium of elegance and refinement.
Thank you Andrea
They are the best around.
Who are the FIVE damn knuckleheads that can't see a way to like this? This is a beautiful arrangement (like all the others). Joe Pass would have turned it into a scale exercise after the first eight. I prefer you, Mr. Whiteman, a thousand to one. I intend to subscribe. THANX a million!
Thank you 😊
Another beautiful arrangement, Chris. It's clear you enjoy playing it as much as we enjoy listening. All the best.
Thank you Edward!
I have to listen to you every single day usually over and over again. The arrangements are sublime, the chord voicings inventive and very instructive. Your a Great teacher and along with your transcriptions I’ve used your nuanced chords to come up with better arrangements of my on stuff. Please transcribe this one to add to my collection of your opus so I can purchase it through your Patreon page. Thank you Chris.
Very kind words my friend. Oh boy, I need to find the time to transcribe this one. A time consuming endeavor!
Excellent arrangement and amazing perfoming!
Thanks, Maestro!
Thank you Arsen!
I would love a tab version of these arrangements you play. I'll buy the whole book!
Thank you Harrison
You're chord melodies are perfect. Great feel and beautiful voicings/voice leading.
Thank you
Lovely and very soulful playing. I like the clear and almost acoustic quality to your ES-125T as well sounds very Joe Pass like when played finger style.
Many thanks!
Real nice! Great tone and technique and your touch is very soulful. Well done!
Thank you!
Absolutely superb. Really enjoyed watching........
Thank you
Lovely! thank you for all that you do and share. 👌🏻🕶🌹
Thanks Steve
Beautiful, with all the "colors" to give it depth. I look those little bass lines, etc. Very tasteful. I would pay money to watch you play a set of solo guitar like this, or in a quartet situation at a bar that's hip enough to support jazz.
Thank you
I’ll second that, guess will have travel down to Miami where he teaches at the University.
breathtaking
Thank you Maria

Thank you
Excellent arrangement and performance of this classic! Great job Chris!
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
Beautiful sound!
Thank you!
I love the es 125. In your opinion does this guitar have good string spacing for a fingerstyle jazz? Im currently playing on my stratocaster but it's pretty tight for my big hands.
It has very narrow string spacing. The nut width is 1 5/8", so might be tight.
@@ChrisWhitemanGuitar Ah okay thanks
Beautiful! Hope you make the transcription available for purchase in the near future Chris
Thanks Mark
I've struggled with this song for a while and your arrangement has helped me tremendously. Thanks for posting the video. Really enjoy the ES-125 tone. I've been looking at a 150, but haven't been able to get out to play it..hopefully sounds like yours!
