    My jab is so fast that over the years my jab hand has become a full 1 year younger than the rest of my body because of time dilation....time slows the faster an object moves, etc.

      throwitinthebinUnt I heard you were really good on the speedball and I mean real good, the best. It's those short, very quick, repetitive hand movements you're so good at developed and honed since puberty. I lost my champion's belt to you ages ago bro and I don't hold any hope of winning it back, you can keep it.

      That ain't shit man. I trained during my infancy and my jabs were faster than lightning. Now I'm 21 and have the arms of a 5 year old; they're so small and quick nobody will see them coming ( I do now look like a T-rex though.......).

    yes I have read and perfectly understand the title. When you're talking about hand speed it does not entail the arms alone. if you want to show how to develop fast hands you have to show the viewers how to properly do the 'shoulder snap'. your arms are like an arrow, what gives it speed and power is the movement of your whole body specially the core and the snap of the shoulders or its jolting movement.your body serves as the bow and arms as an arrow.here in the Philippines we practice that kind of training. I agree with you in a sense that the arms should act like a whip but to develop speed and power at the same time, the jolting movement should be incorporated to the punches and not by just punching with your arms. this message is not intended to offend you or destroy the concepts you've demonstrated.this comment is suppletory in character.

    • @expertboxing
      @expertboxing  9 лет назад +9

      +Mark vladimir Next time you offer a "supplementary comment", you don't say, "I think it's better to use ____." Because of course it's all too easy for me to say...the shoulder is simply another connection point between the hand and the core and whereas you focused on the shoulder, I went straight to the root which is the core and that in my humble opinion, it's a billion times better than what you said. But of course, I don't have to say that.

    The tension is simply to connect your fist to your body. Because when you're punching, you're releasing the fist from the body to give it speed. And then before you connect the fist to your opponent, you tense up your body just a bit to connect the fist to the body so that the impact hits with the full weight of your body.

    It really takes abit of time to understand the whole 'arm is a whip' concept - I finally got it I think. I found that building strength in my core, legs and focusing on that torso twist and foot pivot really helped - in other words, there's alot involved in creating a heavy, fast punch with good technique

    Being still vs being in movement doesn't increase or decrease speed. There are different uses for everything. Punching from constant motion (EFFICIENT MOTION) is useful for rhythm and flow. Punching from a static position can have a surprising unexpected suddenness. Likewise, you can also combine the two. It's all about the rhythm and feeling that you put out. There are many ways to do things!

  • @expertboxing

    It can be both. If the body is moving in the opposite direction of the fist, the overall speed of the punch can be slower. If the body is moving in the same direction of the punch, the overall speed can be faster. I would say the difference is marginal and that the greatest difference will be attributed to the strategic use of the speed rather than simply the raw velocity of the speed alone.

    I've began shadow boxing and practicing different fighting styles on my own. Right now I'm practicing my jab and how to properly throw combinations. Of the many different fighting styles out. . I really like boxing the best!! I can't train myself easier in my own home. I found my style that I am most comfortable with by watching and researching some classic boxers. I forget the boxers name but they called him the greatest boxer to never win a title! After further research I found roy jones jr. Got most of his fighting technique from the man I am talking about. I found that very cool. So ive been wanting to throw a barrage of damaging blows but with the type of speed my foe would never be prepared for. After watching your video I feel reassured that I am headed in the right direction. The way u reffered to the arms as a whip is exactly what i have been subconsciously doing. I dont have any weights but I would def. Love some tips for core exercises at home. And if there is anything else to improve speed or technique. . And also some very fast in and out combinations would be awesome. Loved the vid

  • @expertboxing
    @expertboxing  11 лет назад

    Focus more on your weight driving through the ground than your fist driving through the target. The heavier you become in the moment of impact, the more force will impact your target. You can think about the arm as much as you want, but if you're not grounded it won't have much affect. But now we're talking about power moreso than speed. If you want max speed, you just have to release the arm. The moment you try to use the arm muscle, you are slowing it down. Whip it out, not push it out.

    I'll see what I can find. It's not so cut and dry because sometimes I'm working on a particular thing and so I'm giving up advantages in order to work on something else. My opponent may be doing the same. In regards to fight reviews...yes, I can look into that.

  • @expertboxing
    @expertboxing  11 лет назад

    There are many ways to do something. You can place your hands wherever you want. Some people like it up all the time, some people like it down. There are many arguments that putting it down allows you to relax the arms which can make them faster. Also when they're down, they're harder to see so you can be more tricky with them. Even if you drop your hands, it's only the front one that goes low...the back hand is still pretty high for defense. As for Mike Tyson, his stocky frame makes it easy.

    This is the video speed technique right here. I basically explained how you have to focus on the release of the arms and the breathing rather than the structure of the arms.

    Saying "Forget about technique" is confusing when earlier you say "I'm not saying forget about technique". It's all about technique. From Haganah, Serrada Esckrima, and Krav Maga, I have learned "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast". Speed comes with smoothly executing correct technique (true with learning any skill). When this happens, one no longer thinks - or "focuses" - on speed, it is simply there. Bruce Lee said "...I do not hit, it hits all by itself."

  • @Auntybob
    @Auntybob 11 лет назад

    Fast hands come from fast hips....a punch is a wave that travels from the ground through your feet to your legs to your hips to your hands. But there are two types of speed, how fast your hand travels and how fast you can link punches in a combo. To breathe with one breath one punch will slow you down in a combo, to breathe as one breathe many punches, will result in much faster hand speed in combinations. Food for thought.

    How to develop stronger legs: more jump-rope, more shadowboxing, and a change in your attitude. Your legs will develop if you use your legs to hold yourself up. If you're the kind of person with a stiff upper body, it prevents your legs from working the way they should.

    First off I would like to say that I find you videos very informative which is refreshing. There are far too many ignorant trainers, partly because there are no standards to become a trainer. I live in Denver and I have been to 3-4 gyms and I can`t stick with the sport because no trainers start with a solid structural foundation, you know, the basics. I have solid technique(only through a decade of observation) and they assume I have "done this before" and then leave me the way I came. Anyways,

    Closing the fist at impact is not Bruce Lee's technique. It's natural common sense. At the moment of impact, you have to apply tension at the contact point to help facilitate the transfer. If you hit with a soft hand, the power stays dispersed in your hand instead of being passed on to the opponent.

    Something my boxing trainer does is use weights. You can use two or three pound weights for each hand while shadow boxing. You can only throw straight punches and uppercuts with them. You can't really use any hooks but you feel much faster afterwords once you stop using the weights.

    Practise is everything. Learn all, then forget all. Be fluid and your own style, cadence and movement will evolve into a unique processing of attack and defence. Two fighters physically identical, trained the same and fed the same will emerge over time and experience as individuals - you can't learn it you must own it.

    It's because your arm either isn't relaxed enough or because you're too relaxed and doing something weird and yanking your elbow around. The flicker jab is not really a power punch, so don't try to force it.

    Yes and no. It IS one breath for many punches, BUT you keep cutting off the breath so that each punch has its own dedicated breath. But if you exhale with a flow each punch will only leak out instead of having that explosive burst for each one.

    I imagine that my that my hand telegraphs instantly to my target. Even though I've been training for a few years now, once I took on that mentality, my punches have increased slightly in speed. I know that because where I train we often use slow motion video to time our punches and they have gotten faster. It's not much, but they are faster and every little increase counts.

    it takes around 6000 repetitions of a movement, such as a punch, to "groove" it so it's automatic. that's after you can do it correctly. it might seem like thousands of hours, but if you concentrate the practice, you can do it in a week. now, that's a week of doing the same punch pretty much all day. but it can be done, and you can easily groove a movement in a couple of months by doing 100+ a day. but it's gotta be the same move over and over.
    hope this helps...

    you should shadow box with weights if you wanna increase your hand speed that's really helped me i've seen results just by doing it for the last month lol what you should do is shadow box a couple of rounds with weights and then a couple of rounds with just your bare hands then when you do it with your bare hands you're a lot faster and this builds fast twitch muscle fibers also things like clapping pushups helps a lot too and things like 1 arm medicine ball throws

    I can see how resistance training might improve hand speed but it definitely won't improve reflexes...and definitely won't improve TRAINED reflexes. I have thrown punches underwear before and at best, it's a workout for the arms but it's not a good workout for my core because I can't ground myself underwear. When you want handspeed AND power, it needs to come from the core so the water stuff is ineffective to me.

    Awesome video. Excellent instruction. Like you say if you throw the techniques thousands of times, you can just let go and relax.

    You'll have to excuse my hasty replies. I answer a ton of comments and get many requests from people who don't bother to search my channel before asking me questions.

    haha yeah I try to have both. I always just focus being rooted, throwing weight with minimal motion, and punch going in straight to the target so force doesnt glace off. Hard hits, fast movements. I'm not saying I have nothing to learn, its just I'm trying to figure out what alot of others mean by some things they say. I understand you clearly so you're excluded from that, but at the same time I don't think most I see explaining even understand what they're doing.

    Again, similar to Bak Mei.
    Quick question, it's something I've been thinking about. When people say tense at the point of contact for power, do they simply mean dig into the target a little? I see no sense in tightening the bicep like people insist. I feel tension, but that's simply my tricep resisting the target to dig into it a few inches. The bicep just, reduces the power. Why would you tense it before you were ready to pull back?
    I'm wondering if people have gotten confused. Thoughts?

    There's a difference between having perfect technique and thinking about it and having perfect technique and just doing/reacting. The best martial artists react, they don't pause, think, do. The match would be over then. The same goes for boxing. This isn't a slow game of chess.
