Sabine Hossenfelder dropped a video today on how to detect hype about quantum computing: "How to Detect Quantum Bullshit." It might be of interest to investors. For example she says that quantum computers do not output large amounts of data, they only output one measurement outcome and so are unsuitable for applications that require outputting vast quantities of data like weather forecasting or video creation. According to her, they can only be used in certain niche applications. And even in these quantum computing might not bring a real practical advantage. She mentions several possible niche applications in the video.
I looked into quantum computing about a year ago curious if I could find something attractive to invest in. But it all looked very flimsy and more empty talk than anything concrete. Didn't end up investing anything. But love to hear an update from you two to see if that a judgement wort reevaluating! Thumbs up!

have you ever reviewed ALAB? just starting to read up on it..don't like the stock based compensation issues or the internal accounting issues = two red flags so far? IT caught my attention because it is in the Baron Global ETF..
No we've never done a deep dive on ALAB. Seems to be issues, as you point out. We also have a rule to stay away from IPOs for at least 6-12 months.
For the time being this is an immature industry and best left for vc or institutional investors. Remind me of space stocks like rocket lab,mdma, redwire ,planet lab etc

Quantum computing = ✨ Wow, great research on the subject. Hopefully some super nerds show up to provide some opinions and insights…. I’m guessing there’s a good amount of gate keeping going on as like you say- it’s almost as if nobody has a clear understanding or direction… that’s bs. They know- and it’s proprietary

I love IonQ (as a company), although I wish Jungsang Kim and Chris Monroe were still there. If they keep hitting their roadmap, some very exciting things should start happening in a few years. Who knows what the stock will do in the meantime however.
