No amount of money can make you feel the sense of achievement at building and designing something. I use to own a small cocktail bar and I worked with a builder to re design my bar with exposed red brick and wood used with specially designed lights to enhance the look. My customers were blown away by the finished product it made me feel very proud with all the hard work late nights blood sweat a tears we had put in. Looking good so far 👍
Cutting the floor panels is a pain in the ass but at least when you put the vinyl down it will cover the imperfections. Just done the a pillow on van removed seat belt and trims an carpeted it as you say the little things make all the difference. Keep on building 👍👏👍👍
You're doing a grand job Shaun. Thinking about what you're doing, and taking your time doing something properly and precisely is the best plan of action. That way your less likely in the future to turnaround and think, I forgot to do this, or I wish I'd done that differently.
Great video Shaun vans coming along nicely, another thing you can do witch we done with our self build. Is put a time capsule somewhere, for future owners 👍🏼
Hey Man ! Stumbled across your videos the other day and have been binge watching since. I came to Cornwall the first week of the summer holidays in my Van and it was a bit of a disaster! Everywhere you went there was nowhere to park so after a couple of days I came back home . But watching your videos has made me realise there's so much I haven't seen or done yet . My Dad moved to Falmouth 20 years ago so I have him to thank as I would visit to see him and Cornwall , sadly he's no longer around but I always feel closer to him when I visit Cornwall . Your videos have made me want to come back and explore more . Keep doing what you're doing as you are doing something amazing .
you may have already thought about it, but what abut some sort of external camera system ( after your night where someone tried your doors while you were sleeping) may give you some piece of mind instead of not knowing who or what is out there when your cabin'd up, great build so far looking forward to seeing it develop
Please check the bottom pocket behind the driver seat. It tends to collect a few drops of water after heavy rain 🌧 normally would dry out, but with insulation, building up to substantial amount
On the stealth camping point? Is it not worth getting a magnetic sign for side of van or over any windows on van on outside. On sign it could say "paper recycling specialists" with a fake phone number. This way people whould think it's work van, won't Rob as think it's full of paper, and you can just peel off and On as when you need to. Sticker on back " no tools left overnight" . I've never seen this done but think it's an crafty excellent idea if I do say so myself lol.
Hi Shaun, Just to let you know, you can no longer "Overnight" on Falmouth seafront they have put "No over night parking" yellow lines in place!! Take care Alan
Coming on nicely Shaun, that van will be the location of many adventures I'm sure. Always telling to see a man using a Stanley knife with a plaster on his finger, I reckon there is a story there mate.🤣
Make yourself a kneel pad out of the silver spongy insulation off cuts you will use later in the build glue several layers together and tape all edges as dust and debris will get between them ok 👍🏻
Great vid by the way DeWalt do a drill with a countersink, I got a kit years ago after one day making boxes at work and changing from drill to countersink to screwdriver bit ripped my hand to bits so next day drill counter in one cordless n screwdriver in other winning combo
Vans coming along nicely Shaun .It’s good to see how you are doing your build until you get it to how you want it .plus with a bigger van it will be ideal for your family to enjoy as well. What I am impressed with is you have done a great job so far and your not rushing the build so you can get it to how you want it .Nice one mate 🤙🏻
Everything you do is precise and well thought out so I was surprised when you didn't re-measure the floor. None the less it's coming along very nicely.
Hi Shaun really enjoying watching your build, you make everything look very easy but I think there is a fair amount of skill involved! Looking forward to the next video.
Proper job Shaun. Guess what I've only been and got a similar van to yours and starting probably my umpteeth van build! If it all goes wrong I can blame you. 😁
@@LoveSundays I'm going minimalistic with my build Shaun. Might try modular units that could be taken out when not required. Still lots of planning to do. 👍
@@LoveSundays chuck a pair of potable water and grey water tanks under the floor where the spare wheel was. Adding 100kgs down there of weight will help take the bounciness out of the rear suspension. Remember, the springs are designed to carry a good few tonne and you are going to be driving around with it close to being unladen
Hi Shaun, Your doing a great job just as well take your time and get it right! Looking forward to the next vlog, any sign of the pitter patter of time feet yet? Take care rgds Alan
Coming along great Shaun love the carpet at the bulk head floor nice touch. Did you thinks about the elevating bed idea with the lounge underneath it. At the back Thats being very popular on builds now. See you on the next video stay safe 👍 michael notts
It's looking good. Cutting relatively thick material freehand with a jigsaw is never easy and even using a guide rarely eliminates errors in cutting. The old floor may have been rough around the edges, but the cutting technique would have just accentuated that. It's hard to get this kind of thing right for casual users of jigsaws in fairness.
Just a thought, without anything between the back and the front, as you have removed the steel wall, is that not lethal in an accident. The heavy fit out would come straight through the cockpit and you wouldn't have a chance at higher speeds?
@@LoveSundays I was going to suggest that as you have chosen 12mm ply some of the furniture could be screwed just to the floor ... But perhaps having most of the screws through into the noggins / joists will be a better bet! Is adding straps / clamps round any leisure battery and securing any water heater diesel heater worthwhile, or have I been bitten by the Elfin Safety Bug? You did a lovely job on the carpet - it looked great on the video. Good to see your face mask kept the spray glue out of your beard! One thought for anyone else fitting a floor (as it's a bit late for your build) ... And it might be more helpful if anyone doesn't have floor template ... It you cut the flooring to be wider than half the width, can you use a profile gauge to transfer the shape of the edge of the van / rib locations and wheel arch intrusions onto the floor - this should provide a tight fit to the side, then the centre line can be marked and cut (preferably with a circular saw, as they cut straighter than a jigsaw). Any thoughts on whether this is workable? A profile gauge could also help when cutting a worktop / wall cupboards to fit the sides. Note that you can get jigsaw blades that cut on the down stroke - useful if you can only mark the top surface. I did fit kitchen worktops once - I hired a jig / router which really helped get clean joints. If you have access to a router you can use it freehand (with practice) or clamp a strip of wood to act as a guide for a straight cut - you'll get a better cut than with a jigsaw Hope this helps ... I'd love to convert my own van but don't have the time, energy or money! Great to see you motoring on with your build - hope you have a couple more days to film before duty calls
Really nice work 👏 your be glad to know I'm finally ready for my first stelth camp next Thursday to bamburgh Castle a couple of sea front car parks ... wish us luck 🤣😂 be sure to be hammering Instagram to death .. be dropping my van off this winter for you to redo the floors 😂🤣😂🤣
Hi shaun I most say I am loving the build keep up the good work I am thinking off myself to get a van and start a build as I like camping is it a big cost to build your own van
It can be as expensive as you want it to be. My last van build cost me £700 and the van was £3,000 throw the roof deck in and that entire van cost me £4,000. So it is possible to do it on a budget
My neighbors building a van. Watching your videos explains all the strange noises coming from his garage 😂
😂

Yea it makes it so much better and you appreciate it more building it yourself
Plenty of good tips and loving that you aren't doing too much in one go.
Glad you enjoyed it
Looking good mate, and yeah the 12mm is a better choice, sturdier, warmer, and will help hold the furniture when you screw them down
Cheers Terry
Your inspiring me to start a van, I love how you say wear a mask then never do 🤣
Yea improbably should invest in a mask 😂

Thank you! 😊
A fine day's work indeed. 👏👏👏
Thanks Gary
one day at a time, it will take as long as it takes, but fully getthe, ' ah, lets get it finished' feeling
Yes I have to remind myself not to rush it
Coming along nicely, going to be nice and toasty inside 👌
Hopefully
"Floor he's a jolly good fella!" Great job so far 🤞🏴

Loving the van build series, can’t wait for the next video. 🙂
Thanks Colin
Shaun no need for another drill for the countersink you can get drill bits with adjustable countersinks built in or you can just beg me for mine 😂
Bring it over for me then 😂
It's looking good there meht.
The Dynamat will make a hell of a difference inside.
Cheers

Yea that’s something I learned on my last van. I kinda just built that one quickly and then regretted it later on

Funny you should say that I wrote my name on the inside wall of the van today 😂
🤣👍🏼great minds think alike and all 😉
Enjoying watching your van build Shaun..even hubby is impressed with your workmanship and he’s usually very critical. Well done 😀
He’ll probably change his mind as the build progresses 😂

Looking good you’re doing a great job it should last for many years. Looking forward to the next!!
Do your knees a favour and get a kneeling pad. They’re only cheap and your knees will thank you in years to come. Keep up the good work.
100% 👍

Blimey Shaun, good job there mate
As for things not being quite straight I find it adds a bit of character to things
That’s a good way to look at it

Was the spare wheel stowed in the van originally?
If so. Consider a mount for the rear door to maximise internal space
There’s a mount underneath the van between the back wheels for the wheel to be mounted when I got the van though it was just in the back
