It’s shit and even if it wasn’t woke the season is still plagued with writing inconsistencies and poses more questions than answers. For example, if Troy is used for multiple staged fake saves, then why hasn’t the public started to notice that it’s the same criminal that has been apprehended a dozen times over? How did Hughie survive the half dozen turns A-Train made when A-Train rescued him, without getting whiplash? They always made a point in season 1 of how impractical it is for a speedster or someone with super speed to rescue someone, but they are inconsistent with that in the finale of season 1 as well. In season 1 it’s established that Homelander can’t save the passengers individually on the flight 37 presumably because he would have to go extremely slowly in order to avoid killing them, then in the finale it’s established that he can just grab someone (Billy Butcher) at Mach 15 to save him from a c4 explosion, so he could have saved everyone on flight 37. Although, The Boys die hard fans will defend it with the “homelander is too lazy,” as an explanation despite the fact that it would not only benefit him more to fly them back to mainland at Mach 15, but also because it wouldn’t even be that hard for him to do it. They also completely forgot the super terrorist plot line so they could do a racism allegory then they forgot about it when stormfront died.

This season is a lot less subtle, so now there’s a lot of dummies who don’t get things unless they’re drawn with crayons realizing they were making fun of them all along.
All along? That is a contradiction. The fact that it was intentionally making fun of both sides, but then subsequently being blatantly one sided is precisely why it was initially well recieved and then it wasn't. That's called bias.
But if you are right, if it _was_ making fun of the right the whole time then it is not really anything surprising, but true colors are not subtle anymore. It is seen for what it is: A show that is simply a means to portray and exaggerate two dimensional characters that the writer disagrees with politically, philosophically and culturally.

Qualtiy still suffered. Yes the show was always woke but some plot decisions leave you scratching your head. They never even hinted at Frenchie being Bisexual. It came out of nowhere. Not really stellar writing if you ask me. Also most other character are becoming a parody of themselves. And nothing really happened until now. Was quite boring.

Of all the things in our face. Frenchies gay revealing was of no consequence as to why this season is shite. At least to me Frenchie's character was never clearly straight or masculin, and honestly didn't really matter to me. His character was written well. Now if they had it written that he started questioning his gender identity, that would have been a problem.

Him losing weight in real life, how awful the circumstances may have been, has nothing to do with his character. I too had to double check on IMDBs cast to make sure it was the same actor, of course it doesn't help that the dialogue is god awful this season, but it might as well be a new character all together.

It's kind of worse than that. "Woke" was a word used by black people in the 1990s to describe white people who understood that institutional racism is an ongoing problem. I think most people knew about the left leaning since the first season… but season 4 is on the nose! The dialogue is not what it used to be either. No tact or charm
The show's seasons 1-3 were making fun at left and right equally, with actual good plot and arcs. However, as soon as season 4 starts, their main source of comedy is only making fun of right leaning politics, making the enjoyment of the series generally one-sided in terms of comedy. Not to mention the ruining of plots set up in prior seasons like frenchie and kimiko's relationship. Weather or not there were subtle hints of frenchies sexuality (even though in the comics he was straight) the story was very obviously leading up to him and kimiko, now most of that is being retconned to fit this woke agenda shit. The fact you can't see this clearly means you eat it up lmao

I was a fan of the first 3 seasons. They always had their slant but I appreciated it that they ripped on corporate activism. This season I was getting very tired of how preachy it became. It felt less balanced than in the past.

The creator of this show Erik Kripke even said, “if you think is show is too woke, then don’t watch it and simply watch something else.”

Personally, I like the idea of The Boys going after American politics with the Starlight and Homelander divide in the country. I just think it’s executed poorly due to them only going after the right side of the political spectrum in contrast of the left side. I think if they did something like South Park, where they go after both sides equally, everyone would find it funny rather than alienating half of the viewers. I’m pretty sure their goal is to piss off the people who lean to the right to prove their point in the show which I understand, but at the same time I think they should be fair and critique the left equally this season.

They don't target one side though. Victoria Neumann, the headpopper, is a Democrat. While she is portrayed as an over-the-top conspiracy theorist, Firecracker doesn't come across as a grifter when her motives are questioned, instead choosing to sympathize with a portion of the country she sees as downtrodden, and says as much to Sage. Additionally, Starlight was revealed to be a bully toward Firecracker, which is what motivated her politics and stances to begin with. Too many people are just snowflakes
Firecracker does come off as a grifter though. See how she takes money for a selfie with a fan at the convention. She also tells Sage that she doesn’t really believe this stuff. The audience is supposed to think, “Wow the right is so dumb for believing this stuff about conspiracies told by people using them to get rich.”
The producers either aren’t willing to make fun of the left or don’t know how. There easily could have been something about cashless bail filling the streets with actual criminals or a President with dementia, even re-enacting Hilary’s tossing into the van would have gotten points. I’m convinced they believe it’s their job to get people to think like them.

this doesn't work for the main reason that A: the actor is still the same as who usually plays Noir, and B: Noir specifically says that "I've never actually killed anyone before", whereas the character that you're thinking of has killed quite a few people.

Yes "The Boys" is a great show. But make a step back and realize that Season 4 destroyed every single character you learned to love during S1 to 3.
If they were going after both sides or kept it to a minimum I would be fine with it.

I don’t recall the left being made fun of. In season one there was an episode about Christianity being a cult grift. The rest of the episodes played fair and people got into the show, overlooking that episode. As seasons went on and the characters went in circles, we had filler dream sequence dances and new characters come and go without making change, but the jokes as the expense of the right increased. It got to a point where people were rooting for Homelander, but I think not because of his narcissism but because of the incompetence of the heroes.

The boys has always been political but in different ways. I have always loved the political satire in the previous seasons, however it got a little overbearing in the last 3 episodes. Whereas the previous seasons had political satire and humor but it never truly was part that drove the story forward.

I personally do think the show is getting more woke. I’m conservative, but I love The Boys. Top 5 shows, but this season does feel a little different. My biggest problem is Frenchie being gay/bisexual. It felt like they were building up the Frenchie and Kimiko relationship, but then make a completely 180 and now he just wants this dude. I’ve always prided The Boys on being woke, but actually good. They always prioritized the show over the politics, but I can’t say that with the Frenchie stuff. It feels like they just needed a new Bisexual character with Maeve gone so they turned him.

He was in love with kimiko in the previous season but now has gone off to smash a black dude I think that’s the first sense of poor writing the community is on about,
Homelander seems a bit crazier and more attention needing than season 3 homelander which I’m not too bothered about,
Mommy milkers only looks different because he shaved his beard and a bit off weight loss so I’m fine with that.

I didn’t like the fact they brought in hugies mum just out of the blue probably for the plot of S4.
Him being bi was completely hinted and shown among shown with the person in s2 who died of a overdose.
A problem i have is all the romatic buildup kimiko and frenchie had was completely pointless and meaningless. I do perfer there sibling relationship as i felt it always should have been that, but i think the writer retconed kimiko and frenchie romatic tension due to realising they didnt have a gay couple in the season since maeve left.
The Frenchie and Kimiko storyline became my favorite in the show in seasons 1-3. The way they presented the gay relationship, seems it was just for shock value more than anything. It turned out that Frenchie brutalized Colin's family and left him traumatized. Frenchie realized who he was in a group therapy session and pursued Colin to try and make up for what happened. Frenchie began struggling with a lot of guilt and remorse for all of the people he victimized over the years. I think it kinda makes sense but i would've liked it better if it was Kimiko helping Frenchie through it instead of some random person. I hope Frenchie and Kimiko get some kind of happiness together in season 5 because they kissed this season. They deserve to be happy together.

As someone who is very left leaning, this season has felt a little bit too forced with the politics. I think I really like the more anti corporate themes the show had in the first three seasons and felt that it had been a little too lacking in this season.
Kripke blasphemes/mocks jesus in practically every episode it should be expected though theyve been doing that for 2000 years.

they dropped a plot-sensical relationship that's been growing for 3 seasons to be LGBT inclusive... unnecessary. Sure, he was always bi, but he had no reason to be gay this season 🙈
@liamtolan47 it was already established that Frenchy is poly and has a rescuing hero complex, it's why Frenchy picked up Kimiko in the 1st place and allowed Huey in the Boys so easily than the others. This season is within his character and it was never stated that Frenchy and Kimiko were exclusive to each other but this is probably new waters for Kimiko considering she may not have had any poly experience hence he burst of jealousy when she got buzzed at the con. It's just not a good subplot with a weak foundation in terms of the forgettable love interest guy. It's nor woke, it's just poorly executed and written.

After season 1, the creator currently in charge took over, and the show has become a racketeering scheme ran by creeps. once I saw Patton Oswalt as an extra I knew that the show had been compromised. Only creeps allow that guy on set.
