  • Despite modern Survivor’s ideology of trying to give everyone’s edit a more holistic meaning resulting in us having less villains compared to Survivor 40 and before there still have been some individuals. Since villainous figures are so few and far between nowadays I figured we should celebrate them and their legacy in this video...

"Survivor" is a popular reality television show that has been captivating audiences around the world for many years. The show's concept revolves around a group of contestants, often around 16 to 20 individuals, who are marooned in a remote and challenging location, such as an island, jungle, or desert. These contestants are usually divided into two or more tribes at the beginning of the game.
The primary goal of the show is for contestants to outwit, outplay, and outlast their fellow competitors in order to win a cash prize and the title of "Sole Survivor." The show is known for its compelling characters, dramatic twists, and strategic gameplay. Contestants often face physical hardships, interpersonal conflicts, and moral dilemmas as they navigate the challenges of the game. "Survivor" has a loyal fan base and has spawned numerous seasons, each set in a different location with its own unique challenges. It has become a cultural phenomenon and a cornerstone of the reality TV genre. The host is known as Jeff Probst and is also the lead director.

I have trouble accepting people like Omar and Jesse as villains because the edit makes them too likable or at least establish some sort of moral high ground, and their power plays are justified as being par for the course in a game where you'll never earn the jury's respect without a resume. People like Fairplay, Angelina, and Russell were characters you'd love to hate, not sympathize with over their troubled backstory.

my hot take is i love how complex edits are nowendays ! we still get people that embody various sides of villainy but we really get to see the good and bad abt them and decide how we feel abt them ourselves -- if you prefer the more heavy handed style of editing there's always aus survivor for that
also -- i genuinely think there's a decent amount of villains in the new era ! 41 was arguably a villain led season, with shan and ricard being two of the main characters and unapologetically villainous, then hai tapped into similar energy next season but never gets brought up in these convos for some reason. then we have bruce being an old school OTTN camp menace style villain, dee genuinely being the closest thing we've ever gotten to a parvati 2.0 and WINNING, omar / jesse / karla all embracing villainous cutthroat gameplay (with the latter also having some shan-esque intensity), tori / jamie / venus all having angelina-esque delusional girlboss energy but putting their own spin on it (with jamie getting probably the most old school edit of anyone on this list), jonathan having a fascinating hero turned villain arc, danny having tony-esque scheminess, and even q from the current season getting drunk with power + causing chaos both strategically and socially
this isn't even getting into some of the mini villain arcs like elie, james, geo (who even had an entire downfall episode), gem, maddy, emily (who had a reverse jonathan arc), etc

I believe the last two real villains of Survivor were Shan and Deshawn, and even then they were more "anti hero" than villains themselves. But at least they brought a real antagonism to the season in comparison to some unsucessful attempts from Hai, Drea, Elie, Josh, the Ratus from 44 who were portrait as "villains" for some reason...

Shan isn’t really a villain, she’s just a wretched person. I hope to never see her again. Wasn't Drea the reason we don't have them anymore?

@@shockwave5947 So Shan initially filed an HR complaint about the producer who is in charge of creating the ponderosa videos due to being filmed “noticeably less than the other castaways” and successfully got him sent home resulting in no more ponderosa videos after Evvie. It was the start of the new era, Jeff was preaching inclusivity, he probably didn’t even hesitate before pulling the plug. Shan is a diva and I have no respect for her.
Drea actually had a different issue at Pondy… and it was far worse…
Drea had made up rumors about Omar to the castaways after they stated to get picked off one by one and made it clear that Omar had been lying to everyone about his father’s recent death, that he was exclusively hunting POC so the jury would be mostly POC and have a soft spot for him, and that he faked praying so he could get sympathy from the others in the game. Pretty vicious stuff.
When Omar got booted, he was not well received at Pondy AT ALL and Hai apparently wouldn’t even speak to him for DAYS until it came to a head and it eventually was found out that Drea had been the one lying on his name from the jump. They couldn’t use any of this footage and so we have no ponderosa for 42 because of Drea.
To summarize, yes you are correct and Drea is the reason we don’t have Pondy for 42, but Shan is the one who sent the actual producer of the show home for good and 42 was shot by extra crew members who volunteered. Once the producer was gone, I’m sure it would’ve been a wrap after 42 regardless if Drea did what she did or not.
