If you look through episode summaries for Hanna-Barbera's The Flintstones you will find that many of them call out the caricatures, parodies and spoofs of early 1960s tv shows. One write up for Little Bamm-Bamm perfectly notes the play on Perry Mason, but never mentions Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster's Superman or the 1948 film serial.
The in-your-face clues to Bamm-Bamm's extraterrestrial nature are rapidly forgotten and then completely overshadowed by the 1965 introduction of Harvey Korman's little green alien Gazoo.
Fourteen years later, however, in 1979 Hanna Barbera and Ottenheimer Publishers will foot-stomp the truth of 1963's Alien Bamm-Bamm with one eye-opening title....

One of the rare times “The Flintstones” broke the fourth wall - when Barney commented on wishing on the star.
Out of 166 episodes, I have found 5 episodes in which one or more cast members of The Flintstones break the Fourth Wall. Back then, infertility and adoption were pretty taboo subjects. It was considered indecent to take in a child that wasn’t yours, and a curse by the divine if you were infertile yourself. This is one of the many ways the flintstones broke ground in culture.

Those who have considered adoption a taboo should have understood the family isn't about sharing the the same blood. It's more to do with how truly close you are to someone.
The television series "The Honeymooners" starring Jackie Gleason, had a childless couple too. They were going to adopt, but the birth mother reclaimed the baby. This was originally aired on 1955.

Both your statement and Jackie's can be true. For much, but not all, of the United States... the topic of adoption was rarely broached on US television in the 1950s and 1960s as a way to avoid any controversy regarding the details of the adoptee's situation.
As you will see in a comment to follow, Jackie Gleason presented the adoption topic in March of 1955, but the birth mother wanted the baby back... in the Flintstones episode there is complete follow through with Bamm-Bamm legally being made the son of Betty and Barney Rubble. It is important to note that they don't explain Bamm-Bamm's back story in this 1960s probe of public opinion.

One of the few times Barney lists off the negative things about Fred and he doesn’t get mad. In fact he even adds to the list.

This episode 'Little Bamm Bamm' was one of my favorite episodes of the series where Barney and Betty not only get their own baby but one that is like right out of Superman a super strong baby that can throw grown men around like rag dolls and both Fred and Barney get laughs out of it like when Fred first met Bamm Bamm and said baby took hold of Fred's finger and body slammed him with Barney saying 'That Bamm Bamm is pretty strong for a baby huh Fred' and Fred says 'Bamm Bamm's pretty strong period' as they both laughed and it was really cute seeing a future couple when Bamm Bamm and Pebbles meet for the first time.
The alien Kal-El Superman connections with this episode and others are interesting and gradually unfolded over 3+ decades. Then, in November of 2016, we had a disclosure twist with the reveal that Mr. Slate had arranged a war against a race known as The Tree People so that he could quarry their territory for granite. One viewer offered, based on his good looks and white hair, that Bamm-Bamm could be a hybrid of Alien and a surviving member of The Tree People.

I remember watching the episode of that. He was taken to a orphanage and they couldn't adopt him. I think they had to get Betty's parents to help or a lawyer. I can't remember very well as it was when I was young. They were finally allowed to officially adopt Bamm Bamm. This episode, or maybe it was a special, was very rarely shown so it's not surprising a lot of people never saw it. I think I only ever saw it twice in my life. 55 years old now, lol

Linda, yes. Additional support for Bamm Bamm as an extraterrestrial gift ala Superman comes from the fact that when Bamm-Bamm was a teenager, Betty became a reporter for one of Bedrock's newspapers, the Daily Granite... which is clearly a parody of Superman's Daily Planet.
Fred was humbled - only after Wilma scolded him for his behavior towards Betty and Barney!

Good recognition, especially the falling star. As you can see in this clip, when Bamm-Bamm meets Gazoo, Barney mentions Bamm-Bamm's super human strength. More importantly, Bamm-Bamm meets Gazoo in the episode immediately following his encounter with the Extraterrestrial Witch, Samantha Stevens, famous for her expression "Oh, my stars!" Also, remember that Betty Rubble eventually goes to work for The Daily Granite... a blatant play on Superman's chosen paper... The Daily Planet. Man cartoons are for kids they say.....phoewey....this episode is both heartpulling and heartwarming! The Flintstones are one of the greatest animated series of all times and while comedic primary they have real heart with the characters and emotional scens like this....a couple who could never be able to have a child has been given to them by luck and what loving parents they are to thier child!❤
Across time, humans have worked "truth to power" education and social change using motley fools, puppets and then cartoon animation. While the very first tv sitcom Mary Kay and Johnny (1947) was first to regularly show a couple sleeping in the same bed and going through a pregnancy, this quickly became taboo after the show went off the air in 1950. The Flintstones may have been the first to retest these waters.
The Flintstones hinted at many difficult topics for audience education... flying saucers and aliens, Freemasonry, pregnancy, infertility, infidelity, gambling addiction, and even suicide.

Eventually, I realized it also fit because the Rubbles wished upon a star, and their dream came true.

That sure does seem to be the implication of the 1963 episode content and the 1979 book Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Visitor from Space, yes. However, this idea gets revised in November 2016 when it is suggested that Little Bamm-Bamm is a survivor of the Tree People Genocide. Of course... where did the Tree People come from? How did Bamm-Bamm become so strong? White Hair? Who brought Bamm-Bamm to the Rubbles? Lots to ponder.
That would explain the little guy's superhuman strength

The channel received a very short but good comment, about a much later reveal that "Bamm-Bamm's entire tribe was killed off." Some conservative Flintstones purists may not appreciate it, but it is important to review, so here are more details:
1. It was not until 2 November 2016 (6 days before 8 November 2016) when DC Comics presented the idea that it was Mr. Slate who promoted the extermination of a tribe called the Tree People inhabiting a granite-rich area that would, after a war, come to be known as the Town of Bedrock with Slate's Quarry.
2. Fred Flintstone is caught up in the hype and enlists to participate in the genocide of the Tree People and tells Barney he must do the same to protect their families.
3. Earlier, in the 1994 Flintstones Live Action Film, we learned that Bamm-Bamm was raised in the wild by Mastodons.
Contrary to some attempts at spin, these facts do not preclude the idea of an alien civilization attempting to teach early humans by bringing Bamm-Bamm to the very people who were instrumental in the killing.

Mel Blanc and Bea Benaderet worked together many times voicing various characters, including Bea being the original voice of 'Granny' on the Looney Tunes cartoons.
Bea Benaderet first appeared as the voice of Granny in the 1950 cartoon Canary Row, which has become an important fixture in linguistics research. Linguist Keren Rice has proposed that basic communication between humans and extraterrestrials should be possible, unless "the things that we think are common to languages-situating in time [and] space, talking about participants, etc.-are so radically different that the human language provides no starting point for it."

So why was it that Betty was unable to bare a kid for Barney. I wonder if the Flinstones TV show ever covered the reason why.
It's an interesting question for a learning opportunity.
I say this for two reasons:
First, it really isn't ideal for men to assume the issue of infertility lies with the female, when it could be Barney's motility. There is no explanation given in the Bedrock Universe for the infertility... even in the 1994 live-action film.
The real reason for the infertility problem is to lay a foundation and launch a subtle trial balloon for the paleocontact theory that Carl Sagan had posed in his 1962 paper Direct Contact Among Galactic Civilizations by Relativistic Interstellar Spaceflight. It sets the stage for the LGM Gazoo.
I realize that this will sound laughable to those who haven't dug into it in depth, but I am serious. Years later you will see Hanna-Barbera approved text and video hints further supporting the link between Bamm-Bamm and the alien Superman.

Since the subject was taboo for television, especially children's TV. This leaves the audience with 3 possible scenarios. Barney was infertile, Betty was infertile or they both were.

I've always wondered why Bamm Bamm was just an ordinary teenager in the Pebbles and Bamm Bamm series?
It is the nature of assimilation following events such as marooning, civilization conquering... and even genocide as we learn on 2 November 2016 in DC Flintstones #5.
Even though Bamm-Bamm is very strong... he is a apparently a sole survivor, totally alone. Fortunately, Pebbles is both beautiful and kind and loves him. There is no reason to give all of that up by demonstrating that he is radically different from the others.

Well, to his credit, at the end of the Little Bamm-Bamm episode Fred Flintstone actually rescues Barney Rubble from committing a rock-laden suicide drowning and, thanks to Barney's thoughtless action, winds up in the drink himself.
But he's still gets angry at Barney for letting go of the rock which caused him to fall off the bridge into the drink!

Yes, in a way. In the 1994 film Fred Flintstone loans Betty & Barney Rubble money so that they can adopt Bamm-Bamm. In the 1994 film, Bamm-Bamm was initially raised by Mastodons with no additional back story.

When I stated that it was NOT in the form of Bugs Bunny that Blanc first did this.... Bea Benedaret who's been in the cartoon buisness since the the 40s was perfect for the role not just for her giggle that NO one would ever match but showcasing emotional qualities when needed. Sadly this was her last season as she would move to Petticoat Junction the following year and Gerry Johnson would replays her and though was competent things wasn't the same.

This is a REALLY good contribution, one of the best the channel has had on a topic other than UAP Quantum Mechanics, although some conservative Flintstones purists may not appreciate it. Here's why:
1. It was not until 2 November 2016 (6 days before 8 November 2016) when DC Comics presented the idea that it was Mr Slate who promoted the extermination of a tribe called the Tree People inhabiting an area rich in granite that would eventually come to be known as the Town of Bedrock.
2. Fred Flintstone is caught up in the hype and enlists to participate in the genocide of the Tree People and tells Barney he must do the same to protect their families.
3. Earlier, in the 1994 Flintstones Live Action Film, we learned that Bamm-Bamm was raised in the wild by Mastodons.
Contrary to some attempts at spin, these facts do not preclude the idea of an alien civilization attempting to teach early humans by bringing Bamm-Bamm to the very people who were instrumental in the killing.

@@TomOwensUAPUAP person here too. I’m really starting to think that Bam-Bam is a human hybrid. He’s got unreal strength and he turns out a very good and handsome guy. I think he is an attempt to re-seed the human race and jump start things again after the post-Jetsons catastrophe.

In support of your idea, one theory has been that various types of early humans (Homo-erectus, Cro-magnon, Neanderthal, Denisovan) on planet Earth have been staged PROTOTYPES. In the fictional, gedankenexperiment and instructional Flintstones-verse, this could make sense... as Bamm-Bamm would be too young to have been born before Mr. Slate's Granite War. 1. Kal-El's smoking small spacecraft through atmospheric entry and the appearance of "the shooting star" the night before the delivery of Bamm-Bamm.
2. John and Martha Kent were childless and so too Barney and Betty Rubble.
3. You've just added that Kal-El and Bamm-Bamm had Super Strength.
4. I'll add that Hanna Barbera eventually has Betty Rubble go to work for a newspaper The Daily Granite... a pun on Clark Kent's work for The Daily Planet.

That falling star appears in S04E03 Little Bamm-Bamm which aired on 3 October 1963. Gazoo doesn't arrive for 2+ more years in S06E07 The Great Gazoo which aired 29 October 1965. So, no... not really... but maybe symbolically?

The reference to Mr Stoney Feller is of course to Nelson Rockefeller... son of American financer John D. Rockefeller Jr., and a grandson of Standard Oil co-founder John D. Rockefeller. Nelson Rockefeller's brother Laurance was an aggressive advocate for UFO Disclosure before he passed in 2004.

After having consulted with Wilma... I would have taken Barney aside and quietly explained that I wanted more alone time with my daughter after working in the QUARRY all day. I would have set a schedule so that Barney and Betty could visit 2-3 times a week... one or two weeknights and time on the weekends. I would have also been flexible on the details.. and Betty and Barney would have both easily understood that. Thank you for checking in.

2. Bamm-Bamm has super strength, similar to Superman.
3. Bamm-Bamm later appears in a Superman costume.

Can you research to confirm that Bamm-Bamm's adoptive mother, Betty Rubble, eventually goes to work for a newspaper called The Daily Granite.

Humans can often learn by viewing negative leadership examples... not giving credit to others for their contributions... using lies, insults, size or loudness to dominate... scheming to deceive instead of balanced planning. You'll find Alice Kramden rewarding Fred's real-world alter ego for his attempts at self improvement. Also, the gentle giant... like Lou Ferigno in King of Queens... is a positive example. I always wondered how Bam Bam came to be. What would the religious right say about it today?
Good question. My experience has been that MOST individual adherents to right wing fundamentalist Christianity have failed to do the actual work of reading the books and sourcing the material to the ancient Gentile (and Hebrew) traditions and literature from which it is sourced to include: Roman literature, Greek Literature, Egyptian Literature, Chaldean Babylonian and ultimately Sumerian Literature. In alignment with Roman Empire traditions, the New Testament assimilates much of this material and it is easy to find, once you have the background.
As fundamentalists have not done the required reading of "the Classics," they are easy marks for the Charlatans that Carl Sagan warns of in his quote:

I have yet to encounter a fundamentalist, ring wing Christian who will truthfully answer questions about the New Testament and Earth's ancient history. If you know of any, I would be interested.

The implication of Barney's statement "We're so anxious to have a baby, we take it out on Fred and Wilma" is that the couple has been trying... but there is an infertility problem.
Because either Betty was infertile (which is likely) or less likely but possible that Barney had a low sperm count.
