    I tell all my guitarist friends: take a good tube amp out, guitar cord and cab and play a few shows. It’s magical. The less you have the better you sounds, and it forces you to be a better player. Tone has been taken care of.

    I am using Amplitube/3rd party IR's with HS8's through a VG99 with RMC piezo for alt tunings on a strat and have the best sound I ever had in my life. SLO and VH4 are my goto's. No tubes to replace, small space saving tens of thousands of dollars in gear and every possibilty of effects/routing just a click away. It takes time sitting down and creating/sculpting a VST preset but so worth it!!!!!

      @@blakemansfield2356 I'd say the same about the Diezels. I've played the herbert and Einstein on stage and spent a good amount of time with the VH4 and they're extremely clinical and precise machines that are at the top of their food chain but that clarity and precision falls into the "polite" category to my ears. On the total opposite side of the spectrum is my 100w superlead on 10. It's loud and mean in a completely different way.. like it's about to catch on fire and hates every fiber of your being for pushing it that way and has this aggression to the structure of the sound that no modern amp really has. Like... it's trying to kill itself and it will take you out in the process.

      FastRedPonyCar Yeah I know exactly what you mean. They don’t seem all that smooth until I started ABing with other amps. And absolutely, Marshalls are the king for raw, in your face tone. Not always what you want when youre at lower volumes at home, but in a band mix and recording situations, nothing hits like a Marshall.

    • @FastRedPonyCar
      @FastRedPonyCar 4 года назад

      @@blakemansfield2356 yeah it was basically unusable until I had Kurt Granger (he's local to me) install the larmar master volume. He also did the cascading gain mod where I can pull channel 2's volume knob and engage that if I want. I should have gotten him to add a toggle to internally bridge the channels also. The only thing that I still don't like about it is the FX loop. It's just.. terrible. There's no good loop for that old circuit. They're all just sort of hacked in there and even the metro loop was meh.
      Eventually I'll figure something out for that amp. I want to get Bruce from Brit-Tone amps (another local guy who makes insanely good SLO clones) to upgrade the transformers as they're still the pretty bad Ceriatone units. He does some really cool custom marshall amps also sort of like what Friedman does but has somehow figured out how to get a good sounding FX loop in there and even built custom 2 channel plexi's where one channel is basically a stock plexi and the footswitch engages the cascading gain but in a way that you can have the standard plexi channel pretty clean but the cascading gain slams it hard for that classic 80's hair metal thing. He calls it the M4.
