Using a Windows Phone In 2024 Review

- Last year I made a video about using Windows Phone in 2023, but how is it using them in 2024? Let's find out together!
In this video I will talk about why it was ahead of its time with the interesting features that it had. For example the Microsoft Lumia 950 could turn into a computer with microsoft continuum. So how does that work today? And why did windows phone fail? Will there ever be a new Microsoft phone?
I am looking at multiple models in this video. Specifically, the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, the Lumia 550, 650, Nokia Lumia 1020 with a massive 41 megapixel camera, and the Microsoft 640 XL.
Some of the models I am looking at today are running on Windows 10 mobile, while others are on Windows 8 mobile. But sadly Microsoft never made a Windows 11 mobile.

Well, Windows Phone isn't bad, it has smooth animations but very limited app support.
yes that what his demise. had to WP lumia 800 and 920.
That's it's downfall, but user experience was fabulous.
I kinda liked the limited app support, it felt more like a phone and I wasn't sucked into my screen constantly
Bro I always wanted to use windows Phone but it is disappeared from the smart phone industry😢
@@sandhyasandhya3315 You could still buy one.
Actually, the lack of apps is the reason for me to consider buying a Windows phone in today’s distracted world.
Why iphone SE isn't the default model is beyond me. I hate these big phones. If I needed a bigger screen, I'd get a tablet.
@@3ofSpades FR. 5.5 inch screen is like the total max screen size that is practical for a phone. 4 - 4.7 inch is the good range.
Just do it. A 950XL is awesome.
Here for the same exact reason. Used to have one, they ran really well.
I miss live tiles so much... Windows Phones were indeed ahead of their time. And my humble 635 Lumia never felt slow.
Thanks for the comment!
I also think if Microsoft continued to develop the Windows Phone, they might start making wrong decisions, similar to how Windows 11 is getting worse over time.
@@slojanko Had Windows Phones survived I'm pretty certain that iOS and Android would have been better though, as Microsoft would bring their own ideas to the table. Probably todays' Windows Phones would be a blend of Microsoft Launcher and Launcher 10.
Miss it till today, i have my 25 devices collection tho, too keep this memory alive. Really loved it!
Awesome that you have a large collection! What is your favorite lumia out of your collection?
@@ImportantTech tough question, but probably 900 and 1020
Loved Windows phones! My Nokia Lumia 930 was a beast
It's the lack of popular apps that killed these phones for me.
I had a Lumia 550 until I smashed it😅
If they had a good store then maybe it would've sold a lot better back then
Actually, Google knowingly kept it's apps away from Windows Phone because it felt threatened. With Google not on-board, a lot of users looked the other way as well. And since not a lot of people were using it, others devs didn't join in. I remember back then, Google was out killing every third party app developed for RUclips on Windows Phone whereas now, iOS and Android both have tons of such apps and they do nothing. Windows Phone was deliberately put to the ground by competitors.
I want that users should request Microsoft to start making windows phone again. Because android sucks with battery consumption while windows was great to deliver power efficient performance
Thanks for the video. I used Windows phones for years, still get them out and play. It's such a shame, that they weren't more popular.
I had a 930. I loved it to bits. The camera would be competitive with modern phones It was obvious, OBVIOUS they were making a monumental strategic mistake. Microsoft doomed itself to weekday, workday affair - word and Excel. They were ahead of the curve on so may things. After hours its now apple or android. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. 🙏❤️🙏
I agree and absolutely loved my Nokia Lumia 930!
The 930 is the best designed iPhone Apple never made. It has Apple aesthetics, but then done with pure perfection. Most beautiful phone ever made, especially the all black one.
@@lovemadeinjapan And the pricing at the time was perfect not not mention that Nokia was the only company back then doing some sort or parts/resources audit to tell the consumer where all the resources used to build the phone came from! Again, ahead of it's time.
Windows phone was way ahead of its time.
If it was not for their laziness which resulted lack of app development, they would be competing with apple now.
I still have an old 925 here, that was one of the best phones I ever had, sadly between Microsofts inability to this day to make a decent app store and Google doing everything it could to make sure it never got google apps, Windows phone had no chance.
the lack of apps is what killed Windows Phone.
I blame Steve Balmer for the failure of the windows phone. When the iPhone came out he was laughing at Apple and Google took advantage of Microsoft being stuck in their medieval minds and released Android. When MS realized their mistake, it was too late.
I have a lumia 650 XL, I used it for months (Nov 2023 - Jan 2024) , and I loved every second of it, I didn’t have the PC stuff but it was peaceful, no bs apps bugging me!
I low-key miss windows phones. I miss the live tiles and they had such a nice keyboard
I've still got a green Nokia Lumia 735. It's just in the drawer as a spare, but I have a Motorola that was in the repair shop and another cheap Android phone that wouldn't even charge - it was the only phone that I could rely on, and this was only in 2023.
I really liked my Windows Phones but the lack of apps (and eventual support) made me switch.
It's good that Windows Phone didn't do to their phones what Blackberry did. You can still enjoy the phones with very good keyboards, serviceable cameras, relatively quick phones for their specs, and for the things you mentioned.
I wish Windows would restart the real "Windows Phones"! If they learn from their previous mistakes (e.g. app support) - it would be VERY interesting for business users!
A lot of smartphone brand fell, main reason is ignoring the want the customers demand
I need a battery for Lumia 532. Can any body help me.
Just want to it to come back, be here.
Popularity of the OS was the whole problem. IMHO despite that Windows perfectly match smartphones (even better than PC's)
They never should have killed it. It would be the perfect dumbphone platform, or as a springboard now for AI apps
Love windows phones. Still keep my Lumia 735. Need battery replacement
Any whatsapp bypass? If I have whatsapp and messenger somehow, I will go back to lumia
Still pretty usable daily driver wise, i use mine for Discord (3rd party client)
i'm still using my old lumia 640 windows phone. Unfortunately, no Windows Store any more, so no new apps or updates. No weather app either... nevertheless, a great and robust phone that was actually ahead of its time. Nadella likely shut it down, just so that the previous CEO's legacy would be gone for ever (sounds like the ancient Pharaos of Egypt, doesn't it?)
I will say, base android is still pretty snappy even on low end garbage hardware.
What makes it slow is all the google garbage and PUP's from the OEM/carrier.
I have a Stratus C5 "Elite". Is already a pretty clean image of android, but even after purging all the google crap the phone is snappy and makes a good web browsing machine.
They should create a separate and specific OS for their phones.
I have lumia 920
it stills my favorite phone I had
Nice
When it will launch in India.
what is the music in the background at 7:30 ish
Mblue - Follow Me (instrumental)
Kidhar se liya bhai muje bhi lena he
Really underrated phone
I would totally buy a lumia if it wasn't for the lack of apps
i also had this type of windows phone I'm using it as pc😂
man this is better than apple samsung one plus and the nothing phone. It reminds me of my windows nokia!!!
My mom had one of those she hated it like hell eventually shifted to android...
I miss windows phone
i love that it doesn't have co-pilot
They would probably force an update...
Well i dunno for average user being not interested if it had stylus as we talk work with microsoft apps and usefull features may be woukd be alive but farewell if they even try to make new windows phone some will be interested
Common unboxio W
Lumia 🥰
I had lumia 425
Windows are Great Phone, Please Come back LUMIA.
I miss my samsung focus
Tired of Apple phones and Android phones. World needs another mobile OS. Nokia should bring back MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan. The N9 received widespread critical acclaim, with some describing it as Nokia's finest device to date. It was praised for both its software and hardware, including the MeeGo operating system, buttonless 'swipe' user interface, and its high-end features.
im getting one
i know what ur thinking, your thinking why,
im getting one because its cool and my phone is on the brink of death
I’m crying…
I am watching by lumia 1320
Nostoligia
+1
Apps is what kills this phone from being usable in 2024. It was usable back in 2017/18 and 2019 at a stretch but there’s just so much missing including AI apps now that date this like rotten milk.
Even Blackberry 10 is able to have AI apps installed on it for Android 4.3 and yes there is a way todo it.
Yes! Also the software updates make it less safe. I used my Lumia 650 as my main phone until 2018
They were super good in hardware but very poor in apps. Why? Couldn't Microsoft hire more developers?
افضل نظام ...ولكن للاسف
Samsung Galaxy Ultra S24 stole the Windows design
Ugliest ui of all time
