303 sounds so pleasant to my ears everytime. Good one mate! tip: you can press remain + mfx button to apply effect on all pads at once just like on the 404.
Thank you man, yeah with compression I've slowly learned that its better just just have a touch on there. Very easy to overdo it. Thanks for checking out the vid!
haha nice. I don't know if its just me but when I put anything through the 303 it seems to have a lot of character. Think they are well worth the money
@@spvidz lemme get your email to get a beat tape. I slick have this invention. Its like sp 303 but a DJ app. And I've been tweaking shit for like 3 years now still going. Gonna be on stones throw
The 505 & 606 workflow involves a lot of menu diving, but it's not too bad. I plan on getting another 404SX eventually. The ideas would flow like water with it. If i then put those ideas on the 606, I can do mute group stuff, 2 fx, mastering & D-Beam.
Nice man sounds interesting. I’m tempted to have a look at some of the bigger SPs. Would be cool to have one that’s a bit more set up for full beat making
Thanks man, i need to do a bit of research. I like the look of the 555 but i've not looked into the 505 much before. Will be interesting to see what it can offer
spvidz 505 they say is the same sp303 engine, but with more room on the front. (the 2 rows of the 303 are challenging!) the 505 has the same smatmedia as the 303. 555 is full confort quick and good for better live exibition it seems.
FYI... Your "levels keep getting messed up" because you're hitting the compressor so hard. It's a linear compressor, so the relative levels between sounds, and which pads you're playing simultaneously, will have a drastic effect. Cheers!
Yeah it was when I was either playing the sample with or without the drums behind it. I should have just left the compressor off that pad probably. Thanks for watching
Thanks man, I want to at some point. I've just received a load of replacement buttons because the mpc had basically become unusable. I've got to solder them on but hoping to be back up and running with it soon
That piano is sick dude, reminds me of silent hill. Do you dedicate a lot of time listening to records? I’m finding that the poor choices in records I’ve made has pushed me away from them. Have you gone through a similar learning curve? Any tips? Thrift stores are really hit or miss, and record stores just seem overwhelming, if that makes sense. I think efficiency would be my goal, if I had to break it down. And I feel like I’m finding more and more duds lately.
I listen to a lot of music. Its good to use digital outlets like youtube and spotify to find artists that sample well. Then you can hit the record shops and know what you are looking for (or at least have an idea anyway!) most good record shops should have somewhere you can listen to records before you buy. I've struck up a good relationship with the guy that runs my local store and he's just added one in - said I could come and dig for samples whenever I like. Just gotta find some free time now haha. Try and research a few artists and labels so that you have some idea of what to look for. I do also have loads of duds too unfortunately. There's no perfect process
Im not sure sorry man, I'm sure the online manual will tell you which type you need and then you can go from there - media.sp-forums.com/manuals/SP-303_OM.pdf
Does the vinyl sim compressor (and other effects too) only apply to each pad separately when you add pads to "remain"? Or does it apply to some sort of master bus? If you don't apply the effect on a resample, the compression is only affecting separate tracks and not the final thing, right?
It only applies to the pads that you have selected using 'remain' however the noise will still be there over everything (dial 2) so you have to turn that down if you don't want it on the beat/ your samples. Hope that helps
THE MAGE OF MERCURY 😁 I know it’s tough for beginners but the art of sampling is putting in the work to find the samples. I was there at some point and was desperate to ask people but slowly started realise that it was better to invest the time trying to find samples instead..!
@@spvidz 100%! And I'm not directing this at the original poster because I don't know their level of experience, but a LOT of it is laziness. It's killing the Hip-Hop game massively, people comment under videos saying "sampling" and whatnot. Protect that stuff, let people be curious as to what you've flipped!
I need help I just brought one of these and I can't figure out how to my it 0lay out loud like this I can only hear it using headphones atm how do I play sound from this this using my audio interface or my studio monitor can you please give me some information on this or even make a video that would be appreciated thanks
well its just a question of cables, If you have an audio interface you just need the cable to go from the back of the SP to the interface - your monitors should go out of the back of your interface too.
@@spvidz I have berinhger 204 HD where should I connect the cables from the sp on my interface because I tried to do it yesterday and I can't hear it through the monitors only the headphones
Sorry man but it’s just something you’re going to have to figure out. It’s almost impossible for me to help via text. Do some research online, read the manuals etc they will be available online. I can rarely solve hardware related issues without physically being there it is very very difficult to understand everything that’s going on. I’m sure you’ll get there just keep trying and reading 👍
Because you do not do it often enough. By saying "why am I no good at hi hats" you're just inviting more bad hi hats into your life. Yo don t trip it can be confusing sometimes. I definitely gotta work on my finger drumming as well. Hi hats might be tricky coz it doesn't just land on the one it sometimes only lands on the "and" ... Ive also been finding samples that start on that "and" . It helps fill the groove of things when the sample doesn't just start on the kick or snare.. hope that makes sense.
Dope way to start the day. Time to fire up sum dank and then the 404!!!

Damn, never really got to hear how good that vinyl sim is until now. Less is definitely more with the 303. Killed the beat man! 🌊
