The History of Hindu India (Part Four) was developed by the editors of Hinduism Today magazine in collaboration with Dr. Shiva Bajpai, Professor Emeritus of History, California State University Northridge. It is intended to provide an authentic presentation of the history of India and Hinduism for use in American middle and high school classes, as well as Hindu temple study groups and general presentations on the Hindu religion and history.
This documentary is based on the fourth chapter of the textbook, "The History of Hindu India," published in 2011. It covers Indian history from 1850 to 1947, from when the British Crown took over direct control of India from the East India Company to Independence. Under British rule, economic exploitation of the subcontinent increased, resulting in frequent famine and deprivation across the once wealthy land. A determined and mostly nonviolent freedom movement emerged and finally succeeded, resulting in the formation of modern India and Muslim Pakistan in 1947.
For more information and for class lesson plans based on the book, visit www.hinduismtoday.com/education/. This documentary is directed and produced by Sushma Khadepaun. Narrated by Roger (Raj) Narayan. Funded by the Uberoi Foundation, Institute for Curriculum Advancement, this film may be freely distributed for educational purposes.

Excellent Video !!! Very Informative.. there is NO doubt that the brutal & fanatic Islamic Mughal rule in India faced stiff resistance at different periods from the great RAJPUT warriors, fierce AHOMS warriors from Assam & from Punjab the brave SIKHS warriors...
Rightly did the great Hindi Poet Bhushana, who forsook the royal favours of the Mughal court to come over to Shivaji to record his glories, he sang :-“काशी की कला जाती, मथुरा की मसजीद बनती, अगर शिवाजी ना होते तो सबकी सुन्नत होती.”
meaning : (Had not there been Shivaji, Kashi would have lost its culture,Mathura would have been turned into a mosque and all would have been circumcised.)
If not for Shivaji and the Marathas, there would have existed a continuous Islamic belt from Morocco to Indonesia. What addition of 1 billion more adherents to Islam would have done to the world power balance or what would have happened to Indian legacy like yoga, ayurveda, music, art and philosophy, is not difficult to guess….
It is worthwhile examining the 'what if' of Indias history, Aurengzeb, Akbars great great grandson, had embarked on the 'Islamisation' of India. The Marathas, inspired by Shivaji, fought Aurengzeb and saved India from following the fate of Persia. The proof of Maratha victory lies in the fact that Aurengzeb lies buried, not in Lahore /Delhi or Agra , but near Aurangabad in good old Maharashtra...
Indian history before Shivaji's advent reads like a chronicle of military disasters. Shivaji changed all that. He used Guerilla Tactics very effectively. Shivaji, as a great warrior & visionary laid a strong and solid foundation that after his death in 1680, there was a series of battles fought between Marathas and Mughals from 1681 to 1707 known as 'War of 27 years' and ended with the death of Aurangzeb in 1707. The Marathas eventually emerged victorious and consolidated their lost territories. This was further expanded by the Peshwas. The Maratha empire reached its peak in summer of 1758 with the conquest of Attock, which is banks of Indus river in Pakistan today. Its eastern frontier was today’s Orissa, being ruled by Raghuji Bhosale of Nagpur. Maratha armies had also reached upto Murshidabad, but then retreated and settled for tribute from Bengal and control of Orissa. To the south, in 1758, territories upto the fort of Gurramkonda in Kadappah district were held. Also, Tanjore (Thanjavur) was under Marathas, but that was a different line. In 1761, the PANIPAT war was lost to the Afghans but Marathas RECOVERED quickly like phoenix bird within 10 years and brought the whole of North Indian again under their control during the 1770's under leadership of Madhavrao Peshwa..
Eventually, the Marathas grew stronger and fought the British in three Anglo-Maratha Wars (1775-82, 1803-05, 1817-18), In the First Anglo-Maratha War (1775-1782) The Marathas emerged Victorious. A Vijay Stambh (Victory Pillar) erected to commemorate Maratha victory over British is located at Vadgaon/Wadgaon Maval, close to the city of Pune. The 2nd and 3rd were subsequently lost and British established themselves.
(By the way, just for your G.K, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is also considered as the 'Father of the Indian Navy'.)
Jai HIND !!! VANDE MATARAAM !! VANDE MATARAAM !! VANDE MATARAAM !!

I think in the 21st century, religious organisations should voluntarily move away from politics and start investing on science that furthers spirituality and peaceful existance. For example, hindu temples could use their funds and assets on promoting social justice, environmental sustainability, wild life protection or commercial production of lab grown meat. How about investing on psychology and mental health?
These are the things of future, and if hinduism is to lead humans into an enlightened existance, it must be proactive. Leave politics for politicians and technocrats. Invest on science for an enlightened future.

During Muslim rule economy thrived, however there was continous religion intolerance, temple destruction, mass killings and conversions.
During British rule, India became one of the poorest Nation by continuous loot. They were not interested in mass conversion and all those thing which islamic ruler persuaded in India.

The 1946 mutiny within British Indian Army, was an appraising by Red fort trails of the INA who fought alongside axis powers in WW2. This had to be mentioned. I wouldn't say M K Gandhi had no role, but one man cannot bring such a massive change. India's Independence was a collective effort. The INA soldiers and the Satyagrah followers were that collective force. It was not just Gandhi or just Mr Bose

We Indians should learn lessons - avoid using more imported good through Amazon,Flipkart etc and encourage local products.
We bought the freedom only because of our unity- religion is next - humanity is first.
Let's grow with our neighbors and let's be pride about our religion and accept and respect other religions too. If we do t know other religions beliefs and values- we have no authority to comment or criticize them.
The cultured religion doesn't need self pride - it will earn the prideness through the genuineness and friendliness- not provoking and degrading others.
    Jai hind
    Yaadhu oore yaavarum keleer
( All are our places and all of them are our relatives - friends)
    Tamil ancient proverb.

Ambedkar never agreed to say Gandhi as Mahatma. He is not the only freedom fighter.British made him famous.Next time you make a video mention Subhash Chandra Bose as most famous and feared by British the most and made them leave India it's not because of Gandhi they gave independence but they they were afraid sepoy revolt may recur like 1857.
