Why? It was 7 weeks consecutive #1 in the US.
I'm not one of the biggest fans of Madonna but this is one of my favorite songs of all time, Baby Face voice is 'hauntingly' beautiful and Madonna's almost desparate cry to her lover in this song is a great concept. Plus the video was shot in Southern Spain and that part of Spain has a hell-of-a history in
which in I love so that adds ALOT of romance, drama, and passion to the whole song. So in closing, this song in my opinion is one of Madonna's best because its romantic and dramatic with all the splendor of southern Spain...

This isn’t a typical break up song for a typical relationship. The guy in the song is a narcissist who played her. It’s 100% what I just went through. The guy I was seeing was an actor who I had a deep and loving relationship with. Found out he has a girlfriend and didn’t mean anything he said. There are few things that hurt more than that. Especially to take advantage of me in a vulnerable period in my life.

I'm not sure it's a "caught my man cheating" kinda song --- sounds like two people who had different expectations of a sexual relationship --- the dude just wanted sex and the girl wanted more, but finally realized the guy wasn't serious about her --- this kind of relationship is very common with people age 17-30 --- when guys are saying lots of charming things to girls to get them into bed, but in the morning they just wanna leave
