Connecting a 3d visualizer makes creating SoundSwitch scripts much easier; no need to connect all your lights and equipment. This tutorial shows you how to connect SoundSwitch with GrandMa2 and MA3d on a single Windows machine.
I cover other advanced topics such as:
- How to create new fixtures in GrandMa2 that don't exist in the Fixture library

Thanks for the amazing tutorial! I was able to get this up and running very quickly and hit the ground running. I ran into an issue where MA3D wasn't connecting properly, so I did some searching and I found your reddit comment mentioning to run both as administrator and that also did the trick!
Thank you for taking the time to do this. It works perfectly. You have to run all three programs as an administrator. Going to use this to set the foundation and then fine tune with all the light on. Also GrandMa does not have all the lower priced lights. This is awesome thank you.

I tried it now but it seems I have to spend sometime adding my lights (not well known and even companies not in the list) so a bit of time but seems very promising.

hi, thanks for the tutorial! just wanted to give you a heads up that grandMA 3 works flawlessly with SoundSwitch too, just enabling an ArtNet entry and setting it to Input is enough for everything to work :)
Hey, I will try grandMA3 because I can't link grandMA2 with 3D visualizer here and don't know why... I let you know, tks.
Wasn't able to install grandMA3, no enought memory in my PC. So I'll stick with grandMA2 and try to find a way to link it with the 3D visualizer. I see my ip address but not the name in the screen...
Did you do anything special? We're having a tough time linking MA3 🫤
I've tried this, the Art-Net entry set to Input and it is getting recognized in SoundSwitch, but it's just not affecting any of the fixtures in MA3. There's no DMX input in universe 1 happening. Do you know of any additional steps you took to get it to work?
@@Semx11 when I experienced that, a couple of restarts of soundswitch/grandma3, re-setting it to input, something usually helped. also make sure to choose the right interface (IP address) maybe? I don't have MA3 installed right now, so I can't exactly check. but from what I recall it was grandMA restart -> toggle artnet / dmx input in grandma and choose the right interface -> soundswitch restart -> toggle LINK in soundswitch playback (even in editor, sometimes it made it 'click') and it usually worked for me.

I've investigated this several times and think I finally found an answer! Try running your programs as admin, by right clicking them and selecting "Run As Administrator"

What a full circle video! Good quality content! My windows machine also does not allow the connection between sound switch and MA2, any update on possible solutions on this? I have attempted with mac remoting in to my PC however SS on mac doesn't see Ma2 as a hardware device over wifi. Would love a discussion about this! Again awesome video.

Hi Jeremy! I just discovered a possible solution for this today, try running your programs as admin, by right clicking them and selecting "Run As Administrator"
I just upgraded my laptop from a HDD to a SSD so I had to resintall everything. Been racking my brain for last 2 hours on why I couldn't get GrandMA2 to communicate with MA 3D. After troubleshooting I discovered that my Nord VPN was the issue. So if you are running any VPN apps, quit the apps, restart GrandMA 2 and MA 3D and you'll be up and running. Weird how a VPN affects communication between apps on the same machine!

I saw on the link to the WINDOWS software for this AMAZING 3D VISUALIZER that there happens to be also some related to MAC OS.... I'm wondering why you stated earlier that it only works with WINDOWS.... just curious because eventually I'm gonna get a 2020 MACPRO pretty soon??? All-in-all.... thanx a bunch for your info..... VERY informative and helpful, especially since I'm new at this whole SoundSwitch lighting thing
I think that grandma 2 only works for windows, and grandma3 will work on Mac. But these instructions won't work on grandma3
What happens when the Protocol in SoundSwitch shows up as N/A (instead of Art-NET), but the Interface and Assign Universe functions are all working?

Hi Daryl thanks for this tutorial, I did manage to get grand ma to pc and 3D working together but somehow soundswitch does not see it. I am running it from a hp laptop
Definitely try restarting everything again, sometimes the artnet connection is finicky

I must be missing something because GrandMA is not showing up in the hardware tab in Soundswitch. I've followed all of the steps up until that part of the video. Everything is Green and connected from GrandMA to the 3D visualizer. What can I check or change for soundswitch to show anything in the art-net hardware. It's enabled and I have my microDMX dongle attached to laptop as well. Just shows the microDMX dongle for SS and nothing else.
**EDIT** Works great when you run as administrator. Thank you and now time to program stuff!

All, note that only grandMA2 needs to run in "Admin" modem SoundSwitch will recognize it.
Daryl, did you find a way to load or import a working "mini Spider" fixture?
Hey Daryl, thx for this and the many other great Videos. Maybe you can help me to connect Soundswith with the 3D Software. I use the Prime 4 with the Control one. And it only shows me this device without ArtNet. If i turn over to Virtuel DJ like it shows me in your video, i can't see any Device. Thx for helping
You need to use SoundSwitch and GrandMa, virtual DJ connecting to SoundSwitch is a whole different thing
@@DJDarylBennett Thank you very much for the quick reply. Of course I use the whole thing on the PC. So Soundswitch and MA3D. But it does not show me an ArtNet connection. GrandMa on PC and 3D run without problems, but I can't get the connection to Soundswitch to work.

Hi, I run SoundSwitch on MacOS Ventura 13.2 and try to use the visualizer on a Windows 11 Pro machine. Both are running on the same Wifi network and connected. On W11 Pro both software are running as Admin. I'm not able to change the IP address of my SS MacOS in MA2. In the dropdown for the Station IP, my MacOS didn't pop up. The setup 'header' is called 'Network Standalone' so I'm wondering if it will work with this software. Seems that the MA Lighting MA2 Forum doesn't work. Searched online but couldn't found an answer so hope I will get one here. Thanks in advance
There’s another tutorial by another person on how to connect a Mac to a windows running grandma. Honestly, I’d just develop your show on your windows machine on another instance of sound switch and then export it to your Mac. That’s what I do now that I’ve joined the dark side and rock a Mac
Hi Daryl thanks for your answer. Can you post the URL to this tutorial? If I understood well, you prefer Windows to build your show instead of MacOS. Which problems did you experience on Mac or what are the benefits when running on Windows?

I couldn't get your program to come up in my Soundswitch....I got both the MA and 3D programs to communicate with each other.... but not to my laptop....I got almost about 75% of your video done up until it was time to create the demo on SS and find the same fixtures added on the MA software and the 3D deal.... but.... I'm pretty sure I did something wrong in my October 2019 HP PAVILION WINDOWS 10 RYZEN 5 AMD PROCESSOR laptop
Interesting. I have an HP laptop, and GrandMa2 connection doesn't show up in SoundSwitch. I've had someone else with an HP tell me that.
But it works great on my Asus laptop
I'm on a Dell XPS 8930 desktop, i7-8700 CPU , Windows 10 Pro, and I can't get interface to show in Soundswitch under hardware either. Any idea?

@@triggr74 Good News I have solved it! GrandMA needs to be "RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR", GrandMA then shows up in SoundSwitch under the Hardware tab.
When I get to the "create session" part, it never links to MA 3D. The network's IP addresses are the same in both programs. I've checked it multiple times. Don't know what else to do.... (scratching my head).
Never mind. I figured it out! I had to switch to my wifi network in both programs. Now they are finally communicating! Yes!!!

When I added "Dmx 1.1 Thru At 0" all of my uplights went to the correct colors. However, my movers stopped shining any light. They are moving, just not shining any light. They were shining light before I typed that command. Any ideas?
I'm not entirely sure, I'd look to make sure soundswitch is sending the DMX values GrandMA. If it is, I'd look at fixture profile you added, and make sure it maps up to your fixture. You might have to edit the fixture to correct it.
@@DJDarylBennett Dude. That was it! You are a genius! Why didn't I think of that? Anyway, yeah when I checked the fixture profile to the light's manual settings, they didn't match up. I basically had the wrong fixture assigned. Putting that command in exposed the truth lol. I got the correct fixture in now and it's working perfectly! Woo hoo!

You should be able to. I downloaded ma3d 2 weeks ago, it should be there in download section

Not with this software . You can always develop on pc and export to Mac. Or try a different software
Does it work on macbook as well?
Ma only works on Windows. But you can have soundswitch on a Mac and control ma on a separate Windows machine.
