Dont be afraid to tell your DM about some stuff that bother you and do try to use the Class varient expanded spell list it really REALLY help the druid.
Top tip: While druids can be absolute BEASTS in combat, their most fun applications are in problem-solving. Don't restrict yourself to just beast shapes, that gets boring very quick.
"Loses gas?" Yeah right! A high level Druid is an army killer. Storm of vengeance used on an encampment will completely wreck it and kill most of the soldiers camping there. Earthquake can take out whole villages or smaller camps and make it impossible to travel because of all the fissures. Control Weather can bring an army to its knees when your temperate, overcast, calm day becomes arctic cold, torrentially raining and storming. Let's not forget Mirage Arcane (1 of 2 illusion spells the Druid learns), which literally changes (disguises) the landscape to whatever you desire, granting you ultimate control of the battlefield, and lasts for 10 days. As an added bonus, you could just be a bird the whole time, so no one would even suspect where you were.
Yess they are pwoerful against areas I dont think druid was weak in that point ever.. its just too many concentrations and lack of single target damage or aoe damage without concentration is like ... one of its worst traits,.
Add all that to the 20th level Moon Druid having, effectively, infinite hit points and there is no other class besides wizard, maybe, that can even keep up.
@@optimus2200 Yes but you have to play to the classes strength. There are plenty of other classes that are good at that. Basically a druid is a BIG TIME battlefield controller. A lot of the good stuff is at lower levels, but the Wall of Thorns can and WILL stop an entire army on the spot and it has that wonderful, dark fairy Tale feel to it. Fire Storm is another Fairy Tale spell in the idea of 'He burned the whole village down!' it's a show of serious power and can burn an entire fleet of ships to cinder. Tsunami wipes out a port and the town around it which cripples a nation's trade. Finally Shapechange. You need to face a dragon? Well now you got another dragon to fight it for your favourite godzilla movie moments. Or in case you need to just eat a Dark Knight. All of these are not only solid picks, but I chose them because it feels like something out of a fairytale doesn't it? I used Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty for inspiration. Straight up fairy tale and something that a BBEG could pull out. Now imagine the heroes using it tactically.
Me and some of my friends are making a dungeons and dragons Star Wars version. We made the classes, races, backgrounds, monsters, and we are almost done! I love Shapechange simply because it harkens back to an old myth about Merlin. He was duelling either his student or Morgana (depending on the version) and both parties kept changing into different animals as they fought across Britain.
Druids are my favorite class. I change my mind along. Being able to customize your spell each day plus rge themes available us great. Going on a search adventure? Pick those Spells. Meed a healer? Heal. Need ro destroy an enemy fory! Call a druid. Your tank is gone? Fibd a tank wild shape

Important to note; You don't HAVE to touch a tree with Transport Via Plants. It can also be any tree you have seen at any time. So truly? You can create a network of transportation. It doesn't necessarily have to be between two tree's. It can be any tree you have seen or touched as your destination.
Yup, like as seen with Keyleth from CR's Campaign 1... she would regularly scry on intended destinations to find a suitable tree, and then transport the party there. Pretty damn useful! Arguably significantly better than Teleport for any places that have trees, which is most of them (like, at least ONE of decent size... no need for a forest or anything!) because there is no risk of mishaps (everyone taking a lot of force damage, possibly even repeatedly!) or bad targeting (similar destination but not the intended one)
@@mduckernz exceot i just realised scrying only allows you to scry on locations you've seen before, so they kinda got some free access to locations.trying to work out if i let me party do it that way too...
The only thing I can think of now is a high-level druid turning into a fish or a whale and then casting tsunami just to mess with their heads. Then there would be this legendary whale that can cause destruction to whole cities.
Well, how would you go about it? You couldn't hope for success by the usual assassin means, sneaky crossbows from the bushes, or poison in their food. For my current party, the would-be assassin would need to think outside the box. Managing to separate one party member and applying some paralytic effect seems the best course of action. Of course, as a DM, you don't actually want to kill the player characters, especially not in such a cheap manner, where they don't get to retaliate. But that *is* how assassins operate. They cheat. They lie. They take every advantage they can get. This makes it a tricky prospect.
17:03. I didn't realize that you could change your shape again as a action. I would like to see a video with great inate spell-casting abilities for creatures In-Shape change. Thanks again
thank you for sharing this detailed video - especially nice in following you other druid video! In my opinion, Druids have fun spells at all levels, including the cantrips - satisfying thematically and producing useful effects mechanically in the game. enjoyed learning your views and discussions!
It's a little limited. Here are some I like. Level 1 -- Absorb Elements. Healing Word. Longstrider can be fun. I love it for Moon druids. Level 2 -- Lesser Restoration. Darkvision can be worth a cast in some situations. Same with Protection from Poison. Level 3 -- Plant Growth. Dispel Magic. Erupting Earth (Not good, but it's what we got, and at least you get to play with d12s...) Level 4 -- Freedom of Movement. Blight maybe? I'm not big on CON save spells. Level 5 -- Transmute Rock, Greater Restoration.
Look up Contagion. On hit, it gives (at least) 3 rounds of excellent debuff before even Legendary saves can kick in. Blight is also good. But no good AoE damage options, I've found.
@@a.spirit8408 I love the concept of contagion, but how viable is it to cast in combat where it takes at a minimum 3 rounds to take effect, it relies on a con save, and you have to succeed on the melee spell attack? Also planning on playing a wildfire druid which gets fireball, so that is a really nice spell to cover up their weaknesses.
@@ZombieMonkey7 I think the selling point of Contagion is the spell attack just has to hit for you to lock in the Poisoned condition, imposing Disadvantage on Attacks and ability checks until they make 3 successful con saves. There's nothing they can do about it. If you hit, and if the target isn't outright immune to poison, you guarantee their next 3 rounds of attacks are made at disadvantage.
@@villainvoice5143 Which is pretty good if they make single target high damage attacks, or anything else with attack rolls... but it's pretty useless if they have AoE attacks (like a dragon breath weapon, or a caster blasting spell like Cone of Cold, or Dawn) From experience, unfortunately.
shapechange bsss you absolutely get the creature legendary resistance Kidna cool. I really wish it was a bonus action because like ..... there is nothing worst than casting a spell and waiting a turn to use it and then losing concentration or getting dispelled without doing anything with that spell ..... and yes that happened to me twice. and some of the powerful creature have equipment in thier stats and like the spell doesnt give you this equipment .. the pit fiend mace or the planatar greatsword. And that your equipment doesn't change thier shape or retain their effect ... Many things really holding this spell from being the best thing around.
Your equipment can be used while shapechanged if the form can use it, so if you have a powerful staff you can turn into a Pit Fiend and still use that staff if you want.
@@ittyandpocky and that staff would be the size of a toothpick to your pit fiend hand. and then some dms would say tahts not a mace so you cant use it in your multiattack for example even though it might say that equipment changes size to mach your size good luck playing in AL and finding a DM that would allow that.
@@optimus2200 Magic equipment changes size to match the wielder RAW, so if it's a magic staff, it should change. Magic armor does so halfling and goliath can swap armors.
My personal favorite for 7th level is Regenerate. It takes a minute to cast, so you can't use it before a battle. But it lasts an hour, so you can cast it if you know you're in for a rough fight. It gives you 1 hitpoint at the start of each of your turns. Meaning that if you go unconscious . . . you get right back up. This spell essentially makes you immortal for an hour unless something swarms you with multiattacks or something.

I love these videos for turning me on to spells I rarely, if ever, have given much thought. Like Wind Walk. It honestly never occurred to me to use it for anything other than transportation...
This video was amazing and filled with love for the druid. One thing I will say however in regards to Shapechange is that you need to have seen the creature at least once before you can turn into them. So if your DM doesn't want you to turn into certain problematic creatures, they can just never throw them at you. In this sense, its a lot less amazing and makes it significantly harder to abuse. However, imagine the fun of using this spell and then turning into every 1 hit wonder the DM has thrown at you over the course of the campaign!! And I think that's why Druid is such a wonderful class. Its thematic, its powerful, but above all, its fun. Its not always about throwing the biggest fireball or distorting the very fabric of the universe with Wish. Sometimes, its about taking notes of every scary creature the DM has used against you and "returning" the favor!
Thank you for covering Druids the past several days. I played druid once in my current campaign and I like it the most. These are really helpful and came out at just the right time.
NIce list! I was thinking of playing a Circle of the Wildfire druid when it gets released in Tashas Cauldron, and was wondering what to do with the higher level spell slots.
Wow, this video couldn't have come out at a better time. Currently making a Warforged Druid which is reflavored as a Dryad/Young Treant from the Feywild.
How to get wish as a druid: Step 1: Search for an evil archmage (the statblock just says that their spell list is the list of *prepared* spells). Step 2: feeblemind them when they sleep Step 3: shapechange into an intellect devourer Step 4: hop into their brain.
In one campaign, we were fighting a large flock of mutant, super harpies (a homebrew) and they were kicking up a bunch of wind preventing us from shooting them, so our druid used reverse gravity to throw a bunch of boulders up into the flock and ended up pinning half of them under them when he released the spell.
It's not really high level, but the reincarnate spell is unique to druids and allows them to revive creatures that are missing body parts or their head. Since the cleric doesn't have the capability to revive a headless ally until 4 levels after the druid does, (using resurrection) it provides a really cool niche benefit. Useful for when your friend gets devoured by a mind flayer.
completely agree with the 2 - 6th level spells. I kept both prepared as my last druid even though I only could cast one of them with my slots, But the ability to travel so quickly was an amazing utility for our party. Unfortunately never played high enough to get 7th level spells or higher :(
My favorites: Level 6: Bones of the Earth or Heal Level 7: Plane Shift or Reverse Gravity Level 8: Animal Shapes or Antipathy/Sympathy Level 9: Shapechange or Foresight
I was messing around with the idea of just using an investiture and a wild shape. Flaming water elemental is nasty or just charging someone as a flaming elk or grappling them as a fire snake seems nice. Not broken, but seems cool enough for me
Read through Shapechange, but legendary reactions don't fall under Legendary actions and therefore can be used by the caster. So when you take a stupid amount of damage or otherwise and somehow fail concentration, you can just burn 1 legendary resistance to stay transformed. Also, as legendary resistances are tied to a form and not the character, if the druid managed to change into something else (that might be weaker) but still has the legendary resistances, those are effectively refreshed.
A truly impressive use of Shapechange, I think, was back in Critical Role Campaign 1 where Keyleth learned how to transform into a Planetar, and those things are fucking GODLIKE!
Since you state that you can "pop-in and -out" during the 8 hour duration of this spell as you desire, is this spell an "all or none" type? If you are the druid and you have 5 others in your group (total of 6) can you "pop" in and out only a single character at a time for an encounter while the rest are still in gaseous form, or must it be the entire party all be in gaseous form or the entire party all in their normal form?
Individual party members can drop in or out of cloud form at-will. We know this because the spell gives the transformation action to creatures affected by the spell, not just the caster "The only actions a creature can take in this form are the Dash action or to revert to its normal form (...) Until the spell ends, a creature can revert to cloud form, which also requires the 1-minute transformation."
8:00 fear immunity? That reminds me of a bug I had in Neverwinter Night 2 Storm of Zehir, when facing One of Many. My paladin was forced to spend all his action doing the saving throw vs fear, effectivly paralysing him.
Y'all be talking about shape changing into crazy monsters, but I'm sitting here thinking about how useful that spell is to become important NPCs for an hour, like a King or the big bad boss, to gain access to places and information you normally wouldn't have.
Unfortunately you turn into a creature type, not a specific creature. It says you turn into an average example of that kind of creature, so instead of turning into the king, you turn into an average human male.
Totally agree. I think that the short sightedness of the blaster mindset gives the Druid a bad rap. Their spell .it is solid at all levels, but really grows in power at upper levels.
Actually I have a shapechange question, if you turn into a planetar you can cast raise dead 3x per day without the material component. But shapechange only lasts an hour, and raise dead requires an hour casting time. Can you actually raise dead as a shapechanged celestial? Heck wouldn't raise dead break your concentration?
@@ittyandpocky I thought casting spells with a casting time over 1 hour required concentration... Unless they meant meant that not in the spell casting sense?
My poor DM has trouble handling/accepting how my 11th(now 12th) lvl druid broke overland travel. I tried to encourage them to watch the DD's video on travel, but I don't think they were that receptive. Currently my druid is on a temporary break so that the party and my stand-in character have to travel the old fashion way (horses and a wagon on roads) but I'm really looking forward to when I can bring them back and hopefully get to try out some of the 7th lvl spells :)
Wind Walk is also a possibility for a Necklace of Prayer Beads, which means it can become a "get out of jail free" card even before 11th level, and even without a druid. I found this out by having someone completely blow up the centerpiece of the campaign arc by using it to get out of a squeeze they put themselves into by bluffing their way past everything. They barricaded a room long enough to Wind Walk, end of adventure.
... can intellect devourers take over undead creatures? Seems to be a way to break both the CR limit and the creature type restrictions. You could feeblemind a dracolich or something, then change into an intellect devourer (the feeblemind is to ensure success), take it over, and then have Greater Restoration cast on it to restore its capabilities. Too crazy? Heh
20th level druid using shapechange to transform into an intellect devourer, taking over the bbeg's pet tarrasque and having a BBEG snack is a wonderful image...
RAW "Transport via plants" is one-sided, so you need to cast it again to get back. And everyone can use it, including your enemies, so it isn't exactly safe to use it out-of-combat.
Well it doesn't require an action to go through, so everyone who goes through just readies an action to attack any non party member that emerges from the tree. Congrats your enemy followed you into the middle of a heavily guarded city.
The thing with transport via plants, you can do it, if the tree is big enough, and with shape change, it only says that you don't get legendary actions and lair actions. It says nothing about legendary resistance.
Hey Dungeon Dudes! It would be cool to see you guys make a video on the Conjuration Wizard. I think it has some really good properties and ways you can play it out!

can't believe you missed animal shapes. You literally get to transform your party into packs of wild beasts. Every round you get to reset their hp to the maximum by shifting the form to a new beefy beast. For 24 hours.
The following isn’t unique to druids, but it’s fitting for them. Pretty sure this is legal RAW, but it’s definitely cheese. 1. Enter a scenario where turns are required. This is to appease a pedantic DM. 2. True Polymorph yourself into a hydra, then wait an hour to make it permanent. (If an ally has True Polymorph, instead Ready the spell Time Stop with being morphed as the trigger. You should now have 1d4+1 extra turns as a hydra. This is optional, but if helps speed things along.) 3. Now for the weird part: attack _yourself_. This will give you more heads. More heads = more attacks. 4. Find a safe way to repeat step 3 ad nauseum. You can now attack as many times as you want per turn. Eat it, fighters! Errr... I guess the hydra’s doing eating actually, lol.
Remember, with True Polymorph, you would gain the Hydra's INT score of... 2. Which I at least would imagine makes the Hydra incapable of following through on such a tactic.

Druids are like my fav class specially moon. there is alot of things that bother me like a home made swetter
BUT MAN IS IT FUN TO TURN INTO A BEAR AND MAUL ENEMIES !!!
Shapechange allows you to use legendary resistances if applicable.

A Druid has it's strength in Roleplay and giving the ability to figuratively twist an arm of someone or a group of people to do as they say.
So yes, There isn't a lot of single-target damage like you'd see with a Barbarian/Fighter. BUT, How many classes can cause an entire castle to crumble or suffer an unrelenting storm for a week?

at that point other charcters gain sooooo much too like magical Items and such. while the lack of support for druids is really bad in the other hand...
The classes are Jedi, bounty hunter, noble, pilot, and trooper. You might have seen this comment on the last video by my freind, ORAForce Gaming, who is doing this with me, and also loves your videos. Please upvote so Monte and Kelly see it! Great job guys! Love your videos, and they have helped me a lot in my campaigns as dungeon master and player. I hope this Star Wars dnd goes well.
There are a ton of excellent published Star Wars RPGs I would recommend checking out. It might save you a LOT of time vs making your own system.
I really need this :")
Which ones would you recommend? I used one to try and help but it was very confusing
@@codenameera3709 There's an old Star Wars D20 game that was based on the 3rd edition D&D rules, so it has the usual stats, and rolling for attacks and skills, and saving throws, and all that jazz. It's the rule system that the KotOR games used.
Reverse Gravity is very good for getting rid of siege engines!
I love Shapechange simply because it harkens back to an old myth about Merlin. He was duelling either his student or Morgana (depending on the version) and both parties kept changing into different animals as they fought across Britain.
Think about a high level druid who can become a Air elemental and can cast whirlwind and fly above it
Druids are my favorite class. I change my mind along. Being able to customize your spell each day plus rge themes available us great. Going on a search adventure? Pick those Spells. Meed a healer? Heal. Need ro destroy an enemy fory! Call a druid. Your tank is gone? Fibd a tank wild shape

Thanks.... I needed that today :)
I’m really loving all this Druid content! I’m a newer player and it’s my first time playing a Druid AND a spell casting class so these videos have been very helpful!
Druid and Cleric spell lists have always been a great mix of utility spells and damage spells.
Continuing the druid theme. Heck yeah! Thanks team Dungeon Dudes :)
The only thing I can think of now is a high-level druid turning into a fish or a whale and then casting tsunami just to mess with their heads. Then there would be this legendary whale that can cause destruction to whole cities.
Use feeble mind then shape change into an intellect devour to take control
"you're mine now"
@@EricDMMiller Hail Hydra
Can you make a video of how to DM assassins or bounty hunters hunting the party? It is a thin line of making the players frustrated vs having fun.
This makes it a tricky prospect.

thank you for sharing this detailed video - especially nice in following you other druid video! In my opinion, Druids have fun spells at all levels, including the cantrips - satisfying thematically and producing useful effects mechanically in the game. enjoyed learning your views and discussions!
What I really want to know are what are some of the best druid options to take that are non concentration spells for low to mid levels
Erupting Earth (Not good, but it's what we got, and at least you get to play with d12s...)
Level 4 -- Freedom of Movement.
@@villainvoice5143 Which is pretty good if they make single target high damage attacks, or anything else with attack rolls... but it's pretty useless if they have AoE attacks (like a dragon breath weapon, or a caster blasting spell like Cone of Cold, or Dawn)
From experience, unfortunately.
You forgot the best part of Reverse Gravity: there's no Save!
actually its a dex save to hold into something :D

This is an AMAZING channel. Every time I watch them I ALWAYS feel entertained. Thanks!
shapechange bsss you absolutely get the creature legendary resistance Kidna cool.
Many things really holding this spell from being the best thing around.
you talking about turning into an Intellect devourer ... you such evil people I LUV IT XD
Your equipment can be used while shapechanged if the form can use it, so if you have a powerful staff you can turn into a Pit Fiend and still use that staff if you want.
@@ittyandpocky and that staff would be the size of a toothpick to your pit fiend hand. and then some dms would say tahts not a mace so you cant use it in your multiattack for example
even though it might say that equipment changes size to mach your size good luck playing in AL and finding a DM that would allow that.
@@optimus2200 Magic equipment changes size to match the wielder RAW, so if it's a magic staff, it should change. Magic armor does so halfling and goliath can swap armors.
@@ittyandpocky well I am talking from 3 years with AL and like only once that a DM let it fly tat an ape can wield a shield and wear an armor.
Thank you both for always providing great contents on D&D! I am a newbie on D&D and have found all your tips and suggestions very useful! Cheers!
I cast reverse gravity on a purple worm once that was in water, it was like playing snake!
The intellect devourer is such a nasty move i have to pull that off one day.
Thank you for covering Druids the past several days. I played druid once in my current campaign and I like it the most. These are really helpful and came out at just the right time.
Such a great spell list. Want some of those high level spells for the Tempest Cleric...
Thanks guys! This helped me see Druids in a whole new light.
Tsunami spell read "up to a 300ft..." meaning the caster can choose the size so it has far more utility than one might expect
How to get wish as a druid:
Step 1: Search for an evil archmage (the statblock just says that their spell list is the list of *prepared* spells).
Step 2: feeblemind them when they sleep
Step 3: shapechange into an intellect devourer
Step 4: hop into their brain.
I built an awesome druid last night: hill dwarf land druid from a hermit arctic clan
Ah yes, my leaves are all a tingle with these awesome Druid videos!!!!! Time to go make a hero's feast and dwell on the new possibilities!
The real answer is simple: A 9th Level Conjure Animals Wolf Swarm

@@theallseeingtoaster5541 well ain't that a sheep in wolf clothing?

Captain Puffin Puffinson *cough* *cough* I don’t know what your talking about
It's not really high level, but the reincarnate spell is unique to druids and allows them to revive creatures that are missing body parts or their head.
Unfortunately never played high enough to get 7th level spells or higher :(
My favorites:
Level 6: Bones of the Earth or Heal
Level 7: Plane Shift or Reverse Gravity
Level 8: Animal Shapes or Antipathy/Sympathy
Level 9: Shapechange or Foresight
I don't see the point of Antipathy/Sympathy.
Reverse gravity, what goes up must come down, with damage at the stop at both ends.
Come to think of it, if you shape change into the big bad guy... You know his stats and tricks! Lol
If you Play a moon druid, you can do that anyway wirh alter self
Unfortunately you turn into a creature type, not a specific creature. It says you turn into an average example of that kind of creature, so instead of turning into the king, you turn into an average human male.
Totally agree. I think that the short sightedness of the blaster mindset gives the Druid a bad rap. Their spell .it is solid at all levels, but really grows in power at upper levels.
just a question, are fungi also considered plant? If I touch a giant fungi can I use Transport via Plants with it?
Afaik fungi are considered plants for game mechanics purposes.
I always treat them as such for my Spore Druid. Really adds some flavor for my spells.
Raise dead isn't a concentration spell, so no it wouldn't break it. It would just use up the entire hour of Shapechange.
@@ittyandpocky I thought casting spells with a casting time over 1 hour required concentration... Unless they meant meant that not in the spell casting sense?
Shapechange into Rakshasa. GG BBEG
Thanks for more Druid content!
What about turning into a sibriex with shapechange?
If you have seen it sure you can, have fun being able to cast feeblemind 3 times.
We actually had to cut about 10 mins of us discussing things like this. Just going on about monsters you could change in to. The Sibriex came up.
@@DungeonDudes The possibilities are endless, to an extent
... can intellect devourers take over undead creatures? Seems to be a way to break both the CR limit and the creature type restrictions. You could feeblemind a dracolich or something, then change into an intellect devourer (the feeblemind is to ensure success), take it over, and then have Greater Restoration cast on it to restore its capabilities.
Too crazy? Heh
20th level druid using shapechange to transform into an intellect devourer, taking over the bbeg's pet tarrasque and having a BBEG snack is a wonderful image...
Lol anyone here remember Keyleth's Wind Walk blunder from Season 1 of CR
Ha!
RAW "Transport via plants" is one-sided, so you need to cast it again to get back. And everyone can use it, including your enemies, so it isn't exactly safe to use it out-of-combat.
I guess if they can get to it within 6 seconds
Well it doesn't require an action to go through, so everyone who goes through just readies an action to attack any non party member that emerges from the tree.
Congrats your enemy followed you into the middle of a heavily guarded city.
The thing with transport via plants, you can do it, if the tree is big enough, and with shape change, it only says that you don't get legendary actions and lair actions. It says nothing about legendary resistance.

Can you guys do more mid level spell videos like you did with the cleric? Most pre made campaigns rarely go above level 10.
No love for animal shapes? You can literally have an army of unkillable giant scorpions!

can't believe you missed animal shapes. You literally get to transform your party into packs of wild beasts. Every round you get to reset their hp to the maximum by shifting the form to a new beefy beast. For 24 hours.

Does whirlwind also suck up those smaller than average size?
Animal Shapes for an 8th level is kinda awesome. It's Wild Shape for the party.
Thanks for the guide, Dudes :D
The following isn’t unique to druids, but it’s fitting for them. Pretty sure this is legal RAW, but it’s definitely cheese.
1. Enter a scenario where turns are required. This is to appease a pedantic DM.
2. True Polymorph yourself into a hydra, then wait an hour to make it permanent. (If an ally has True Polymorph, instead Ready the spell Time Stop with being morphed as the trigger. You should now have 1d4+1 extra turns as a hydra. This is optional, but if helps speed things along.)
TheChocobologist Maybe, but you do keep your personality. You can also have your allies help.
You guys should do a low level druid spell ranking! Having only 2 cantrips makes the choice really difficult
Could you guys do a video about illusion wizards?
I was considering using your guys intellect devoured idea for a mid tier bbeg. One who is summoning or could become the bbeg.
