      For my Druid I reflavored and added a homebrew form to be based on the 12 Zodiac Elements (basic for elements) to go with the starry form. Archer being based on the fire Zodiacs, Chalice being Water Constellations, and Dragon being Air Constellations. Made a homebrew Shield form for extra temp hitpoints and based it on Earth Zodiacs.

      So I'm playing a crystal dragonborn stars druid who's an oracle/astrologer. Archer is shooting stars and comets that burst from his hand to be the bolts he fires. Chalice looks like a celestial waterfall flowing across his scales. And dragon is him being filled with radiant prismatic flames.

      Excellent idea, I'm making a Gith Star Druid who has strings of jewelry hanging down from her neck. They magically rise to form a constellation around her. Her goal is to search the stars for ways to bring the two Gith people back together, so probably something that represents the 3 warring triangle factions (not sure what which would be the Mind Flayer one though, Dragon?).

    I have a Warforge Circle of the Stars Druid I’m about to start playing in my friends game. They had serial number 0R-10N and were badly damaged in barre and left in the field, discarded. Not dead but forced to be in standby mode due to loss of limbs, he studied the heavens and mapped the constellations in his head. An adventuring party stumbled upon him while searching through the remains of the years old war. Helping him by replacing his limbs with polished stone and wooden parts fashioned from their surroundings, the Warforge adopted the name Orion (like the constellation) and set out to study the heavens eventually meeting a reclusive Druid who taught him how to connect to the earth and eventually the stars.
    Very excited to try this character out!

    When the Circle of Stars first came out, I was playing in a naval based campaign. My Life Cleric, the ships doctor, reconnected with his long lost family on a deserted island. After reconnecting with his heritage, he took the multi-class into the Circle of the Stars (as was family tradition). Now pulling double duty as both the ships doctor AND navigator all went well for a while. Fast forward ~20 sessions and when my PC lost his eye in a brutal ship combat, he crafted his star map into his new glass eye.
    He was an amazing character! The ability of that multi class combo and the Star Form to keep some really juicy concentration spells up turned out to be very potent. Can’t wait to play the subclass again sometime in the future!

    I was playing an abjuration wizard when Tasha’s came out. I noted in your ranking video for wizards as well, but taking 2 levels of star Druid to get the dragon form and getting a minimum of 10 on INT checks with the abjuration wizard and their improved abjuration means that your counterspell is automatically 10 + PB + INT, and you could conceivably counterspell 9th level spells with 3rd level slots starting at level 12. Just so much fun. Love your channel, thanks dudes.

    I’m playing a Sea Elf Stars Druid (currently Level 7) in Rime of the Frostmaiden. She was born under the sea on an especially starry night and always felt drawn to the stars. She became a sailor and was headed to Icewind Dale to see the northern lights when circumstances led her to become an adventurer. She uses scrimshaw techniques to carve the constellations on her handmade shell/bone shield. She’s part blaster (yay for Guiding Bolt!) and part summoner [thanks to a Bag of Tricks, Summon Beast, Summon (Water) Elemental]. She loves water spells (Tidal Wave, Create or Destroy Water) and sea plant spells (reflavored Thorn Whip, Spike Growth, etc.). She switches between Archer and Chalice Starry forms. Feats include Fey Touched (free at Level 1) and Resilient Constitution (Level 4). Had already planned to take Spell Sniper at Level 8 - so very happy to hear your recommendation! Stars Druids rock!

      I just made a circle of the stars druid and came to this video and I also chose Kalashtar as my race. The story of the campaign is that the cosmos fractured and many people were lost for years but as the realm recovers those people came back avengers endgame style. My character was one of them and now he hears voices telling him secrets but not psychically like he's used to as a kalashtar. I had a Drow Stars Druid. Basically, he used to be part of a raiding party as they attack at night, it was his first time seeing the stars, gradually becoming obsessed with constellations. One of their raids resulted in him finding a book on stars, taking it as a sign, he snuck away from his raiding party whilst they were resting. Essentially he became a hermit, self teaching himself to draw up star maps and even began worshipping Eilistraee.

    I love the circle of Stars Druid (ideally with a protector Aasimar and Elf with elven accuracy). I recommend taking a look at Treantmonk’s (Treantmonk’s Temple) series about Druid spells if you play this subclass because a reliable spell concentration for your spells can’t be understated.
    Though not optimal, I love the starting at 9th level Double Dragon 🐉 stratagem- take Stary Form Dragon and cast Dragonic Spirit.

  • @samwildstein2092
    @samwildstein2092 2 года назад +45

    Playing a Stars Druid right now in an Eberron campaign with Gritty Realism Rests and the strength is pretty clear. The Dragon constellation improves as you have bigger spells to keep concentration on, but don't forget that it's an option to help your Wisdom and Intelligence checks as an out of combat option. You also still have the incredible utility of becoming an animal which can accomplish the same thing as several spells. Guidance for free becomes a sizable boost to the party's rolls over the campaign, but it's also pretty abusable for individual activities like tool checks. Guiding Bolt isn't just free castings; it's a perfect option for when you're already concentrating on a spell (which the druid list is lacking in). To me this Druid flaunts it's nova potential. You do get a similar wrap to the Moon where there's a couple big jumps in power between which you're comparatively falling off, but being able to take full advantage of your casting makes it less pronounced.
    My character is an Elf with the Mark of Shadows which fills in the Druid spell list nicely with illusion magic. Between his spells and animal forms, my druid is very effective as a spy or thief. One of the cool things about more of your average damage coming from your Bonus Action is being able to make use of other Actions without high an opportunity cost. I've gotten to pull off some fun maneuvers by creatively using Minor Illusion in battle. I expected the Starry Form to be nice with my Broom of Flying, but what surprised my DM and I was realizing that RAW my Thornwhip would yank an enemy 10ft toward me vertically causing fall damage. Personally my Star Map is a prismatic gem that refracts light into a projection of the cosmos. Because of the nature of our campaign rules, using spell slots for healing is unviable; my DM and I are haven't settled on a change to the Chalice form yet so it remains unused.

I used Dragon to get a fly speed, flew out about 20ft from the bridge and used thorn whip to pull the bad guy off the bridge, falling to his doom. I have a drow circle of stars that I love so much. It’s just so incredibly versatile even within the same combat, from being battlefield control to dealing out great damage to then being a really good life saving healer. Turning healing word from 1d4 to 1d4+1d8+wis mod is no small thing. As well as the possibility of getting up two downed players at once.
    I’ve also multiclassed into a twilight domain cleric because it really fits the theme, and let’s me prepare so many extra 1st level spells I could use (healing word, bless, detect magic etc) as well as… you know… the channel divinity
    But not only is the stars Druid very powerful in many ways it’s also just so fun to play and thematic. My character has stars tattooed across their body that light up when using the abilities, they are a literal star gazer and a beacon of light in the darkness to ward off evil

    I haven’t had a chance to play him, but I have a warforged stars druid ready to go. I like to imagine him being constructed by stargazing wizards centuries ago, and he’s sort of like a roving observatory unto himself. I imagine his star map being built into his hand and he can project an image of it onto surfaces (or maybe even make a 3D holographic image???)

    I have his Star Map made from a metal and made into bands that wrap around his trunk, and can be turned to make different configurations (think the weird circle map from PotC).....also i like the idea of turning the trunk into a Guiding Bolt Cannon
    And with the Natural Armor I can focus on Con and Wisdom progression, i still like a strong-ish flavour, so you can also hold stuff in the trunk as well

    I'll be playing a one of these in an upcoming campaign. I took Feytouched for Misty Step, Hex, and the wisdom bump. While it is another concentration spell, being able to hex something for extra damage on archer and whatever other spell I fling out means an extra 2D6 per round. And it's a free spell once a day. The campaign also uses a 24 hour long rest mechanic, so extra spells are big. Have to play conservatively as is.

    Going 2 levels life domain cleric then 2 levels circle of stars druid then back into cleric is an insane healing build. Especially since tashas added aura of vitality(stacks with the cleric's life ability so each round(for 10 rounds) you can heal 2d6+2+3[spell level])to the clerics spell list and druids get goodberry(10x{1+2+1[spell level]}), and although chalice only works when you use a spell slot it still gives an extra 1d8+wis, so for example a 1st level healing word could heal 1d4+1d8+wis+2+1(spell level)(up to 20 Hp [4+8+5+2+1])

Faerie Fire/Entangle for advantage paired really well with the ranged spell attack nature of its early blasting spells. Then having that on top of the typical goodberry juggling, healing word, and guidance you become very much like a jack of all trades.

      Currently playing a Crystal dragonborn stars druid in a homebrew campaign and it is amazing! My PC is very much the oracle/astrologer/astral Dreamweaver kind-of character. Between the crystal and celestial aspects it has SO MUCH flavor. What spells I can't easily flavor as celestial events(nebula, comets, celestial fire or lightning) I can generally flavor as being crystalline in nature( erupting earth, and spike growth are made of crystal spikes and thorns rather than stone or plants. And thorn whip is a beam of celestial fire with jagged crystal spikes.) Summons can appear having the same starry form as the PC. And the new tashas summon spells with archer and GB really add to efficient action economy. You can also use the racial dragon wings to fly while wildshaped between lv5-8(3 lv earlier than normal wildshape) for easier infiltration. Or after lvl 10 can be used if you need to switch from dragon form while airborne to prevent falling if you need a quick chalice heal( wither and bloom as action for ranged healing while using BA to use wings). You get to save spell slots as well since you have free GB and dragonbreath attacks.
      10/10 would recommend!

    1) I know this is an older video 2) I only just found this channel. On the the actual comment: So a friend is running a very high level (17th) “one-shot” (we’ve already split it up between 2 sessions and still going) and I’m playing a tortle stars Druid. It’s a blast (no pun intended). For one high level games are always a power trip, but for another, my AC sits happily at 22, I took the fey touched feat to pick up silver barbs, I also picked up the telekinetic feat to pair with moon beam and spike growth. Finally I picked up warcaster so that I could have a shield and a moon sickle at the same time and still cast spells (22 spell save DC, what?!) it’s genuinely some of the most fun I’ve had with D&D and that’s saying something since I’ve been playing for like… a decade (I know that isn’t much compared to many veterans of 1st edition). It’s a shame that the area we’re in is too small for me to break out shapechange and turn into an adult silver dragon because that’d really be something fun, but in the meantime I’m pretty happy with completely doming some Rakshasa with my archer constellation (what’s that? Limited magic immunity? I can’t hear you over my class feature which isn’t a spell). Oh and I can dodge and still zap them for some sweet damage which at 22 AC means they aren’t usually able to lay a claw on me. Plus the (forge?) cleric and the rogue, it’s a pretty wild time. Have I mentioned that high level play is such a power trip? Because in a different campaign in the same group, we’re at mid level and still terrified that the rakshasa we pissed off will find us again…

She wanted to play a Tabaxi oracle and even at level 2/3 these abilities are not only very flavorful but they are super impactful. She used Dragon form with Protection from Evil and Good in our first boss fight against a Sea Hag, which effectively made the party paladin immune to most of the tricks the hag is normally capable of (since the Druid could never lose concentration unless she took at least 22 points of damage) -- it was incredibly cool.

    What's really awesome is that I just made my own Star Druid yesterday right before this came out. She's a Warforged not even using the Tasha's options, just a +2 Con and +1 Wis. Going to completely ignore normal wildshape and focus on the optional feature from Tasha's that lets you turn it into a temporary Find Familiar spell. She's basically a Maid Doll who's master's died and kept taking care of her home until it was reclaimed by nature, the plants and animals eventually starting to merge with her body turning her into a sort of Dryad. Stars is amazing since it actually means she doesn't need to use wildshape normally so her racial features won't become meaningless.

    I’m playing in a Curse of Strahd campaign, and one of my party members is playing a Drakewarden Ranger/Stars Druid multiclass. They started with a level in Ranger, then two in Druid, so they got a sort of extra attack with Archer form at player level 3. Then they hopped back into ranger, and we’re now at level 6, so they’ll get their Ranger extra attack and be firing off around 3 shots per round. The Archer form has been awesome as a source of radiant damage in this campaign. At least a quarter of our encounters have been against enemies that heal every round unless being hit with radiant damage, so their character has come in clutch a whole ton. And now they’re mentoring my character, a hexblood blood cleric, and I’ll be hopping over to Druid to follow in their footsteps. Stars Druid is definitely one of my favorite subclasses in the game.

    Great video as always. The spell Spike Growth. I don't remember a mention of it in the video with all the push /pull options available. Otherwise this is exactly my Stars Druid. Extremely versatile. The damage feels strong early game but you are also the best healer ever and the best summoner who can fly. Feels Amazing.
    As a human I took Ritual Caster (wizard) and summon my familiar keeping my "shape change" available. Help action to Guiding Bolt with advantage. Follow up with Archer now also at advantage. Very reliable and I always have an animal friend near, still playing a druid.
    I also have a 2 level dip in Twilight Cleric with an Amulet of the Devout. Extremely powerful to keeping party going healthy. Take all your healing spells and leave the druid slots for all the concentration and blasty goodness. And please ALWAYS take heat metal. Always. LoL.

If a fight got too dicey after a few rounds, I would burn my second wild shape to switch to Chalice to get a great boost in my healing. I only got to play it at that one level in a campaign that died out, and I would totally love to try it again. Druids are ridiculously heavy on concentration spells on their spell list so I found that Dragon Starry Form was simply too valuable to pass up.

    • @dnddetective
      @dnddetective 2 года назад

      Plus with the dragon form you can't get worse than a roll of 10 on intelligence and wisdom checks. This frankly gets chronically undervalued when the stars druid gets discussed. It actually provides a strong reason to start with 14 intelligence and take a skill like Investigation. Just because (at level 5) you wouldn't able to get worse than a 15 on any investigation check. If you play half-elf then you also get an extra two skill points you can put towards intelligence or wisdom skills. So you can become a really strong character for skill checks while also not lose your concentration. It's even better with a half-elf if you are using the Tasha's rules for flexible ability score bonuses.
