Oh wow flower buds galore, so exciting, can’t wait to see all of them blooming together at the same time. Last year while pulling dried flowers from my peanut cacti, I found a lot of seedpods too. Great video 💚🌵
Its so exciting to see flower buds, and I am itching to get watering the cacti in the polytunnel haha, but the nights have been so cold here, its nice and sunny during the day but last night was just 2c brrrrrr :-D thanks so much my wonderful Cactus Powered Sister for your wonderful friendship and amazing comment and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Wales for a terrific Thursday today XXXX

Thanks for that extremely useful and interesting piece there Lyn. Rebutia's are sorely underrepresented in my collection, (although I do have a few Sulcorebutia's). These little beauties will always prove popular in this hobby, due to their prolific and colourful free flowering nature, as well as they're small and compact size. In addition to appropriate air circulation, during times of good weather I always like to open the door and a few windows of the greenhouse, to allow in bees and other pollinators. Last year I unexpectedly caught a bee pollinating the flower of one of my Copiapoa's, which did result in no less than 30-40 fresh and viable seeds when the flowerhead dried up and fell off. Tweezers are an excellent tool too for managing flowerheads and debris that may have been blown or caught between the spines, and I would encourage any cactus collector to acquire one. They really do allow the grower to get in the nooks and crannies between spines or in a confined space. Thanks for posting.
So happy you enjoyed the video James :-D I am so happy to have got seeds from the Rebutias, and the seed pods take so long to develop :-D Rebutias really are wonderful little cacti and perfect for saving on space and they are good reliable little bloomers haha :-D Tweezers are so good at reaching in between all the nooks and crannies on the cacti :-D the weather here has been so wonderful during the days but still very chilly at night time, just 2c last night, but nice and warm during the days, my Opuntias are desperate for a good drink and will be giving them a good watering today as the night time temps are going to go up from tonight thank goodness, thanks so much James for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Somerset for a terrific Thursday today XXXX

Great video, Lyn. I found some seed pods on one of my Rebutia towards the end of last year, no idea how it got pollinated but some Rebutia species will set seed without being pollinated, hoffmannii is a good example. I’m guessing there’s probably several more that are self fertile. Thank you for sharing with us as always, Lyn. Have a wonderful evening and upcoming new week from Edith & myself ❤️🌵☀️🌸🌺🌼🏜

I find seed pods from my Rebutia only during winter time. They take so long to develop. 😄 Do you think they are self pollinating? Because I do not pollinate my rebutias but they still form the fruits. So exciting to see so many buds now forming on your cacti. 😃🌸🌵🌺🌵
Rebutia seeds take so long to develop and I have had some take almost a year to be ready for harvesting, I do think that some of the species of Rebutia are self pollinating, but some have to be cross pollinated, I did cross pollinate a lot of them but there were Bees on them too haha, I have tried to pollinate the Sulcorebutia varieties but without success, thanks so Ana much for your wonderful friendship and amazing comment and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and CAFFEINE and PLANT POWER to Las Vegas for a terrific Thursday today XXXX

I have a very mature seed pod on one of my Rebutia... I'm scared to get it off, hahaha! Last time I removed one it burst everywhere! It's the ones that dry out on outer fruit skin like a ball and you pick it off but it just flies everywhere! DO you think sellotape placed over it to contain the bursting would be okay and not damage the seed? Great video Lyn!
Thats a fantastic idea with the sellotape Claire :-D and yes it would definitely help to contain the bursting without damaging the seed, any seeds that sick to the tape can be gently rubbed off with a bit of water on the tape afterwards, and thats fantastic you have a seed pod on one of your Rebutia, thanks so much for your wonderful friendship and amazing comment and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Sea for a terrific Thursday today XXXX

Hi Steven :-D yes I have grown quite a few Opuntia from seed really successfully, its best to soak the Opuntia seeds overnight to help to soften up the hard outer shell before sowing them, and Opuntia seeds can take much longer to germinate than normal cactus seeds and they can germinate from a month to 6 months or even longer, patience is the key with them haha, Good luck with your Opuntia seeds and thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a terrific Thursday today XXXX
Hi Kerry :-D yes Rebutia is very much like Lobivia with the hairy flower tubes, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a terrific Thursday today XXXX
This video was great! I have the same rebutia but mine seems to have developed tiny fruits after the flowers died. What should I do with them? Is there a specific time of the year to harvest them? Thank you.
Thats fantastic news you have fruits on your Rebutia, its best to let the fruit pods ripen for about 3 months or more, the seed pods go very fleshy and plump when they are ready to harvest, you can harvest them from late Summer or leave the pods on the cactus until the following spring, as the seeds pod will have dried and it can be easier to remove the seeds from the dried seed pods, thanks so much Camila for your wonderful comment and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic afternoon XXXX
thanks so much for your wonderful support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a terrific Thursday today XXXX
I know this is very old but i purchased a cactus around 2 months ago and a few weeks after i had it, it grew fruit (no flower when i got it) and i've let them dry but i'm not sure if i should remove them now. They are still dark redish and havent fallen off, but we havent gotten much sun lately. Am I supposed to wait until they fall off by themselves? Any help would be appreciated, i've never done this!
Thats fantastic your cactus has got fruits, it can depend on the type of cactus, but if the fruits are dry you can definitely pick them now and harvest the seeds, if you use a pair of tweezers and gently pull on one of the fruit pods to see if they come away easily without having to pull too hard then they are ready for the picking, but if the fruits seem to be hard to remove with the tweezers its best to wait a few more weeks to be on the safe side, the seeds in the fruits will last a long time and even when the seeds have been harvested the seeds will keep for a couple of years if protected from damp, if the fruits are still fleshy its best to wait a few more weeks until the fruits have gone dry and crispy, happy sowing and growing and thanks so much for watching, wishing you a fantastic plant powered Tuesday XXXX
@desertplantsofavalon thank you so much for replying! The fruit fell out when i tried grabbing it so i decided to go and extract the seeds. This was very helpful thank you!
