My late mum and I adored this film and laughed out loud every time we saw it. I watch it now and think about the happy days of my youth with my lovely and comical mum.
I think I saw that this was mainly written by Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks didn’t initially agree to a lot of the stuff, but Brooks and the people on the staff enjoyed doing it.
This movie was actually Gene Wilder's idea. He was a brilliant guy. He came up with the idea, and Mel Brooks loved it and they both wrote the script. Most of their movies were a collaboration. It was the same with Seinfeld's show. Everyone thinks it was all Jerry, but it was a 50/50 collaboration with Larry David. Just to add one more collaboration. Elton John only wrote music to his songs. All the lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin. It was the best collaboration ever.
I've watched this movie about 1,000 times and this is the first time I noticed that the candles Frau Blucher carries up the stairs aren't even lit! 😆😆😆

If you never saw the original "Frankenstein" with Boris Karloff, do yourself a favor and do so. Then watch this. Again. The only way to appreciate how truly great this entire production was.

I saw this when it first came out and only found out today why the horses go nuts every time Frau Blucher's name is mentioned it is a reference to classic old villain gags and horses being sent to the glue factory... 🤣
It was years before I knew this reference... I got the horses scared reference, but while watching with my dad, he told me that Blucher means Glue in German...
The funniest and most brilliant comedy ever. The cast was stellar in every scene. I can hardly pick my favourite character as they all had so many scene stealing moments. I’ve seen the movie so often that I can’t recall how many times. I too saw it in the theatres when it premiered. I NEVER tire of seeing it

I saw an interview, he actually startled her and she almost broke character, because he ad libbed shouting at her. It surprised her. 😂 Comic geniuses. May they both rest in peace.
If you have never seen Cloris Leachman’s final move, The Scout’s Guide To the Zombie Apocalypse, I highly recommend it just to see her. She is hilarious as always, right up to the end.
I loved that bit in scouts guide... when cloris becomes a zombie she chases them to her garage, and they take her car, a 96 roadmaster sedan... when I first saw it I had the exact same car, in the same color, marblehead gray metallic... from that day forward, that car's name was Cloris
Apparently the first time it happened it was a coincidence ,and it was quickly expanded upon .Mel Brooks was straight on to type writer. Brilliant film, with fantastic actors, most of whom are sadly no longer with us.

Chloris Leachman was a comedic genius of the highest order!
She was incredible.
She was also awesome in “High Anxiety” as nurse Charlotte Diesel!
She was pretty amazing all around.
Even on Lassie, which she couldn't get out of fast enough, she was charming.
Her appearance in 2 and a Half Men when it was good is still one of my go-to episodes to watch when I'm in a bad mood.
I saw this film 4 times a day for 14 days as a projectionist, to this day it still cracks me up.
