This beautiful song was written by Rod MacDonald an incredible singer songwriter based in Florida who should get more recognition that he does. His songs are profound and well written as witnessed by this amazing video. I hope more people will share this video and check out Rod's music. No, I do not work for him, just a big fan. LOL

Not only a magnificent performance by the Mosaic Whispers Virtual Choir, but also a great triumph for the composer, Rod MacDonald. Very beautiful indeed.

So beautiful! I legit just wept. Blend is absolutely perfect! I wasn't in any of the Wash U a cappella groups, but their concerts were always a really special experience for me. Thanks for this beautiful music.

CARLI!!!!! I'm so glad you watched this. I hope you're finding ways to keep getting that beautiful voice of yours out in the world right now, or enjoying a kind of sabbatical as I know that's an approach many are relishing right now (including myself in a lot of ways). Miss you!

Such a gift to share in this musical gathering. I had several friends in the Mosaic Whispers at WashU - they received so much joy from the collaboration and relationships in the group that it truly multiplied to enrich the lives of people throughout the campus. Beautiful people! Thank you!

Absolutely beautiful. Been 25 years since I was at school with Jon, I still miss the days when he was arranging "Kiss the Girl." I hope we can emerge from this unprecedented time so that my own son can begin his Wash U experiences. By the way, great to see that the vest still fits!

Fabulous job! Perfect for such a time as this! I have shared on Facebook and keep playing this song as it is so beautiful and such an encouragement. I was in choirs in school and since and appreciate all the hard work that goes into that perfect blend of harmonies and a lovely arrangement.

    Nice job, Jon!
I believe (please correct me if I'm wrong here) that when Rod Macdonald wrote the song, he sang by himself and played guitar with it... The band Free Hot Lunch, from Madison, came up with the original a capella arrangement. We pretty much stole their version and brought it out to the faire..
I hope Rod Macdonald hears this version, and knows just how far his song has traveled, and how many people it has touched.

I'm glad to see this question (and answer), but what I am eager to know is what support/instructions did the singers receive, to be able to produce solos that were able to be synchronized so beautifully??

    • @lrwhalen

Mary Taylor, great question! We’ve been singing this song together at reunions for years and years so we’re very used to singing it together. We all sang along to the same recording of us singing the song at our last big reunion, and I included beeps before the recording started to make it easier to align when editing. It’s a time-consuming process but rewarding in the end!
