I was looking for a beautiful Jewish prayer for my father Yoseph who is in a lot of pain due to a herniated disc. I wish him and everyone reading this strength and healing. May god bless everyone and help guide us to a healthy life - amen🙏
Knowing Debbie in person and listening to this inspiring song always bring not only tears to my eyes but definitely hope to all people who need these words of healing -to all people of all faiths everywhere in the world. May this song and other songs of peace “Shalom” will unite all human beings and we shall not see no war no more.
My son Michael and I sung my father Mi Shebeirach as he laid prostrate suffering from cancer on his last breath. We sung it again in the hospital when my wife Gina lay in a coma from a stroke from which she recovered. We had the good fortune of singing Mi Shibeirach with Debbie on stage at the Allentown Jewish community center many years ago. It is a constant source of inspiration in times of great sorrow and Debbie will always be missed and remembered.
A precious rabbi sang this to me every day at the university of Maryland as I was recovering from a severe stroke. I couldn't have made it without that connection to the father.
I miss her. I send this to friends (Jewish and not) when they are suffering. Was playing as my grandma z"l took her last breaths. We sang this in EMTZA USY. I was extremely lucky to see her live. Debbie's voice filled the world with peace.
It "lives" on my computer's desktop for playing when I am afraid, sad, grieving. It helps so much. I miss her and those in my family who have been gone too long.
Sigh. If only this prayer had worked to keep Debbie with us. My connection with Debbie was at the beginning of her career. She was "artist in residence" at my synagogue. She would lead us in singing, and we could tell there was something special about her. One day she taught us a song she had just written--"V'ahavtah." She had inadvertently hit upon something special and started writing other songs, but as a 7th grader, I was one of the first people to her her first song.
I listened to this song over and over again as I "kept vigil" during the last night my Dad was alive. I had told him, "I'll talk to you in the morning", knowing I never would speak to him again..
I doubt you'll see this since you posted a year ago. I hope that the hardest part of your grieving process is behind you now, and that you can think about your dad and the memories you made together with more smiles than tears. It's May of 2023 as I type this, and I popped over here to listen to my favorite version of Mi Shebeirach because my dad is dying. Maybe tonight, maybe within the next day or two. But very, very soon. He has dementia, so he hasn't known me for quite awhile; I've watched him leave piece by piece by piece. Your post really touched my soul. My dad's 95th birthday is on July 2nd. He's lived a long life (B"H)! What I want for him more than anything is to die with dignity and to feel at peace; I want him to cross over to wherever he's going calmly, without fear or pain, knowing in his heart that I love him and that I'll be okay. It's hard to say goodbye to someone who's already gone.😢
@MyDogMaxMoodleShnoodleNoodle What an incredibly difficult time you must have had. My sister has been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers, and she's 63. My friend of many years has also been diagnosed with dementia shes 62. Its such a difficult disease to deal with. I hope this prayer gave you some comfort. As i write this, my mother in law is very unwell in hospital, having complications after breaking her hip at 86, this is certainly my goto healing process.
I have been in the hospital in the last year for over a hundred visits. Each time, I listen to Debbie singing the Mi Shiberach and she restores my faith. I am have been in here for angiograms and 8 arterial stints. The rest of the time I have collapsed on the street. At night in the hospital, I was not sure I would survive until morning. This song beautifully sung by Rabbi Debbie has given me the soothing that I need right now. My granddaughter is in the hospital with a neurological condition, of which does not have a diagnosis as of yet. She’s my 10 year old angel. I play this rendition and sing along. Refuah Shlema to my Emma.
A friend is ill, went looking for the prayer, found this version, was a standard in my synagogue for many years. Have had the pleasure of seening Debbie in person several times. I was at this convention, brought back memories, was a very trying time was right after 9/11. My daughter was one of the then called UHAC, now URJ, staffers running this convention. May Debbie rest in eternal peace, she brought so much to so many.

I asked my Rabbi for this today. It is sung regularly at our services but I wanted to have the words handy as my four footed 16 year old furbaby goes in for surgery next Tuesday and this my prayer for her as well as it calms me. She is as much a part of my family as the humans and must be "Jewish" by virtue of eating a whole box of Chanukah candles a few years ago! I met Debbie once when she sang at out Temple.

I used to sing this song in Shabbat Service at a synagogue of Progressive Judaism congregation, though I am not Jewish. I went there to learn Jewish Biblical faith. I got good friends there. I was comfortable when I was seated among other congregants, who noticed me reading aloud there prayer book in Hebrew. I made my first Israel tour as I was allowed to join their tour group, led by a rabbi and a few Israeli worship leaders. If there is a chance, I hope I would revisit Israel with those having Christian faith.

I taught secular history for the little ones First Grade to Second grade at Adas Hebrew Religious school in the seventies and went to a retreat week all over the state called Cage. Debbie always came and the hebrew teachers and Cantors gathered to learn more of Debbies songs. I felt so special to be in her prescece that i could fee Debbies love permeate my being and all around me each time i attended. One year in the sp;ring i and two other teachers and the Marshall Kupchin the p;rincial led us to the Melton Institute in Ga and we went by plain lInda Yitchak who taught the family events and led services and I took the ;plane together and in the middle of the Atlanta airport outside of the ladies room Debbi had an atrtack on and we stood around praying for her to have it leave again. I will never forget her there not being able to stand up like we are and fighing this neurolgoical disorder . i remember she telling us in the audience not to , not to use our cameras and not ever use theflash when she is in front of us , as it hap;pened to her int he Atlanta airport being recognized by afan. Because her body sent her ina spasm when the flash went off and poor Debbie was captive to this happening and could not stop the body from going into spasms. i will never forget that moment in time and despite hjer short comings she continued to come out and teach us and i felt so luckyu t be in Washington Ujiversity and hear and touch Debbi at arms length . i will never forget how her music swelled inside of me and to this day I rememember Debbie in my heart she will always be forever my hero Gitel Goldman , her singing was a gift to my being a active Jewish Mom grand ma GG and was a woman of valor to my deceased beloved and our children were blessed with Debbis songs we still sing at our Shabbat meals , Hats off to the Memory of the works finest person who touched so many lives today and for ever.

Mi Shebeirach
Song by Debbie Friedman
Lyrics
Listen
Mi shebeirach avoteinu
M'kor hab'racha l'imoteinu
May the source of strength
Who blessed the ones before us
Help us find the courage to make our lives a blessing
And let us say Amen
Mi shebeirach imoteinu
M'kor habrachah l'avoteinu
Bless those in need of healing with r'fuah sh'leimah
The renewal of body, the renewal of spirit
And let us say Amen
Mi shebeirach avoteinu
M'kor hab'racha l'imoteinu
May the source of strength
Who blessed the ones before us
Help us find the courage to make our lives a blessing
And let us say Amen
Mi shebeirach imoteinu
M'kor habrachah l'avoteinu
Bless those in need of healing with r'fuah sh'leimah
The renewal of body, the renewal of spirit
And let us say Amen

This song is so beautiful and brings me to tears!
Because her body sent her ina spasm when the flash went off and poor Debbie was captive to this happening and could not stop the body from going into spasms. i will never forget that moment in time and despite hjer short comings she continued to come out and teach us and i felt so luckyu t be in Washington Ujiversity and hear and touch Debbi at arms length . i will never forget how her music swelled inside of me and to this day I rememember Debbie in my heart she will always be forever my hero
Gitel Goldman , her singing was a gift to my being a active Jewish Mom grand ma GG and was a woman of valor to my deceased beloved and our children were blessed with Debbis songs we still sing at our Shabbat meals , Hats off to the Memory of the works finest person who touched so many lives today and for ever.

I read today a commentary comparing Adele to Celine Dion (as opposed to Dusty Springfield). Well, if that's the case, then Debbie Friedman's the Jewish KD Lang! (May Debbie rest in peace -- this beautiful song of hers is sung every Fri. nite where I worship.)
