Keep in mind Ash trained his Pikachu to do this. Meanwhile Captain Pikachu did this all by himself, just to see the beautiful sunset along the Horizons.

Captain Pikachu used two moves at the same time that allowed it to fly temporarily: Volt tackle and Hurricane

They specifically say Captain Pikachu has a unique body that is light, which allows him to climb the Volt Tackle vortex. So while I think it is in the realm of possibility that Ash's Pikachu can learn to Fly, I still find it improbable...

ash's pikachu is pretty smart,I'm surpried we didn't learn this alot sooner in the anime,pikachu flying would even catch ash off guard hahaha XD but I'm glad we finally get to see this move in action in the anime,I love it

If we return to Ash's story, I sure hope his Pikachu can fly. Will Ash & Pikachu return? Only time will tell. I still like Horizons & I'm giving it a chance. Good story. Good characters. I would like to see Ash meet the RVT's & Team Rocket & The Explorers team up. Don't know if that is too much, but it's possible.
