What I like the most about this kid are the things that he didn't need to do, but still he did them anyway.
Victor was always going to be the #1 pick, but he still played a season of professional basketball in Europe in the past year to keep getting better. He also didn't need to come over the the states to play against Scoot and the Ignite, but he still came because he wanted to compete. You don't see that in a lot of young guys nowadays no matter how talented they are. Like DeMar and PG said a while back, many players really only want the glory and wealth that come with being an NBA star. That's not who Victor Wembanyama is. He really wants to be the best player he can possibly be. I can't wait to see him develop in the future.

I really hope bro reaches his potential. Likely gonna struggle next year but hope he shows all the signs of a future star, also it's crazy hearing all these euro players confirm how much easier it is to score in the NBA compared to euro leagues lol

The defense in euro leagues are just incredible, it's impossible to have all the spaces for shooting you have in the US leagues (NCAA or NBA). That's why Wemby scored more than 30 points in his two first games in the US

Victor "career-ending injury just around the corner" Wembanyama. This is perhaps the greatest example of group-think I have ever seen in sports. Oden, Ming, Olawakandi, Bowie, Shawn Bradley, George Muresan.....on and on and on....never draft someone over 7'1", Holmgren is another recent example of this fools gold.

So excited to see where he goes tonight
If it's the Spurs - Wemby and Pop will be a great combo, and I think maybe part of the reason Pop hasn't retired yet. The chance to coach (another) generational talent.
If it's the Pistons - that's a good young core of Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, and Wembanyama. Throw in their good young pieces around them, and they could be a force in a few years
If it's the Rockets - this is scary for the rest of the league, especially with James Harden rumored to be strongly interested in coming back to Houston. Although who knows if getting Wemby will help persuade him or dissuade him from coming back. But if you do pair Harden with Wemby, that's a tough combo to stop.
If it's the Hornets - LaMelo throwing lobs to Wemby will be box office every night
If it's the Blazers - this puts the front office in a tricky place. Wemby's full development (however short it might be) may not line up with Dame's win-now window. Do you keep Dame, and hope that Dame/Wemby + role players gets you a chip? Or do you trade Dame for a lot of young assets, and build all around Wemby?
No matter who gets him tonight, will be a super exciting summer of speculation and hype - and this is why we love the NBA

The top European prospects are just better prepared. They are better coached, they are already acclimated to being professionals and they are more grounded. Of course football is the top sport in Europe, and in France rugby is second to football so being a youth basketball star isn’t that big a deal there, so the kids are well adjusted.
