Fred Waterford said it, June isn’t the same person that she was when she was with Luke, she has gone through something Luke will never understand… Nick does, Nick was there with her pretty much the whole time. Nick protected her and they are somewhat trauma bonded.

June and Luke! Lukes love for her is so strong and unrelenting.
Nick on the other hand, while there is sexual chemistry there he flip flops. He remains loyal to Giliad but continues to be emtionally led by his love for June. He has betrayed June's trust a couple of times, especially when they were meeting with the US goverment in season 4.
Luke and June have a more soild commitment to each other.

Damn I want to see June take Gilliad down. I so want that for her. Elizabeth plays this role so perfectly. I saw her in the invisible man and she really embodied that role. It was a great movie with a twist you don't see coming. Elizabeth Moss is one of the best actors on Earth. I don't there would be a role she couldn't play. Can't wait for the final season of Handmaid's tale. It's been a long time coming.
June and nick. I know they tried to make Luke more errm active but, even though he looks after Nichole, he will never understand how it was in Gilead and what June went through. June won’t ever be the same like before and Luke never risked his life like nick did from day one.
