Lhasa, Tibet: Place of Gods (A Short Tour of the Spiritual Sites of the Legendary City)

- Lhasa, the "Place of Gods" in Tibetan, is a mystical place. The spiritual home of Tibetan buddhism for thousands of years remains a difficult place for the traveller to get to - although these days bureaucracy and cost are the main obstacles. Once there, the traveller faces a further battle with the lack of oxygen. At an altitude higher than most of the mountains in the Alps, the Tibetan plateau can make even the shortest flight of steps daunting, let alone the climb to the majestic Potala Palace, former residence of the Dalai Lamas.
This short visit covers the major sights:
The circumambulation of the Jokhang temple through the streets of the Barkhor.
The enormous monasteries of Drepung and Sera where thousands of monks once created some of the largest spiritual communities the world has ever seen. The debating monks at Sera are a remarkable sight.
The summer and winter residences of the Dalai Lamas: the dominating Potala Palace and the more restrained Norbulingka.
The abiding memory of any visit to Tibet is the warmth of the Tibetan people, the dazzling colours of the temples, and the crystal clear sky.

Tibet is not a country, but a part of The Republic of China. The people’s lives there are getting better and better because of all the effort of Chinese government and all Chinese people. Don’t mess this up, bro. Otherwise, you might not have any chance to visit there. 😊😊
Thank you for the sharing this video
You're welcome. Visiting Lhasa was a dream come true.
@@TravelObscurer l know lhasa is my birthplace so I miss the Lhasa so much
Sir ur are so such luck, good luck
TKNR.VERY Good Informations.
Merci beaucoup
Thank you both for these really breathtaking photos and videos of Tibet and it's holy places. I can say without any doubts that China has been very brutal for Tibet in the past but I think these days little better because of pressures from the democratic countries of this beautiful world.
Thank you for your comments. There is sadly, of course, a side to Lhasa which one is not allowed to film (checkpoints etc), but in the alleyways of old Lhasa it seems that life goes on as it has always done.

@@planthumor8103 Tibet is and will be free from the brutal occupation by the Dictators of China. We never hated the Chinese people but now we are aware that Chinese people are also helping this brutal Government. Don't forget that in the past Tibet occupied large parts of China. When China becomes like former USSR, Tibet will be free from Chinese occupation.
@@planthumor8103 yeah and this is what the government has always used to threaten the tibetans in exile. Not being able to visit China because we spoke up against the CCP. You cannot get an honest opinion from people if they are not allowed to be honest.
@@planthumor8103 Pfff ... No-ot .... Everyone knows this.
Great film! Thank you for sharing. What is the music at the end of the film please?
Thanks. I believe it was called "Japanese Shakuhachi Meditation". Sourced through Envato Elements.
Beautiful
Thank you!
Most misconception about Potala palace is that it is residence of Dalai Lama. Only the pent house is the residence of Dalai Lama.
Potala house all the govt department even house warehouse, library, muesum etc
😮❤
🤩🤩🤩🤩
👍👍👍
Beautiful video of Lhasa Tibet. Thank you!
People also should know all the monasteries, temples, schools Tibetan culture... all destroyed by China culture revolution. Almost nothing left!
What we see today is all rebuild around 1980 till now slowly but still up and down. Long way to go to become as before Chinese revolution destroyed!
The chanting sounds so Native American.
Love Indian's freedom....but like chinese very fast changing ...in between but I choose India
Currently, situation in #Tibet is Dire, 157 #Tibetans had Self-immolated in protest #CCP. CCP has build
infrastructures in Tibet, only to benefit the Han Chinese. Tibetan Schools only
teach Chinese Language. Tibet is a militarized occupied country; did you see
the Patrol men in full combat patrolling the Tibetan areas? Where else does this
happen but in Tibet and Xinjiang, also Hong Kong. There are so many Tibetans in
the Chinse prisons for CCP Political Offenses. There are Illegal mining in
Tibet, causing Earthquakes in the area. There are environmental crimes of
cutting Tibet’s Tress, polluting the rivers. There are corrupt CCP officials
grabbing land, moving the nomads to camps. Treating Buddhism as an Enemy of the
State, controlling monks. The current actions in Tibet by the CCP is that of an
aggressor, occupier, and the tyrant! #FreeTibet
9:56 is a bunch of lies..were do u think the people of Lhasa lives..ur better of with another guide
I am sorry but this video and its comment is very tipucal if small and traditional unculturated tourist because show the face and not the interior spirit of a country occupied and changed by another country
Nomadman, I understand your point but this film can only show the spiritual sites of Lhasa that a tourist can experience. A tourist cannot make a political film, but any visitor is acutely aware of the presence of the PRC in Lhasa and the changes that have taken place since the 1950s, both positive and negative.
