I think the two most likely things with the owl is that it could be jeffersons spirit OR its just a normal owl and it triggers ptsd for max because she associates it with the events of the dark room and life is strange 1. With Max and Rachel too sharing a spirit animal, i think that's exactly what it is. Theres no doubt that the doe is associated with Max herself but the doe's spirit guides her then disappears when Rachel is found. To me, the doe is rachels spirit and max's spirit animal. I guess in a way that means Rachel is technically Max's spirit animal and guardian angel 😂 her guider, if you will. And what i also find interesting is that Max and Rachel have a fair few similarities too. If i recall properly, Chloe herself even told Max that her and Rach were alot alike. And the few things i realised they both have in common is; they both wore the same size clothing, they both had a crush on mr jefferson, they both ended up in the hands of mr jefferson ( as we know ) but unfortunately Rach didnt have the same destiny as Max. And whenever you play as Max in rachels clothing, everyone thinks you are her until they realise you arent. Yeah i know, theres a big possibility they just saw rachels outfit and at first glance they were shook and thought it was her. But to me, i feel like on some level its more than that. I feel like Max's aura or something along those lines is probably more similar to Rachel than we actually notice. Maybe thats a reach, but its my theory.
For indigenous culture owls are messengers usually for death, but they are usually warnings for something to come. And well by what happens during the gameplay reveal it pretty much confirms it.

Well in history, owls are a harbinger of death. I think the the owl is leading max to her fate. That just what I learned. You all can have your own opinions.
To the doe being Max’s spirit animal thing, has anyone else noticed that she has a stag on the patch on her jacket? obviously taking away the fact that stags are male and does are female, the main physical difference other than size and sex is the antlers, could be reading too much into it but I think it could be a really interesting little character clue as to who Max has become or is becoming in this game, from what would be a fairly timid and passive creature (the doe) to another creature, that while it doesn’t want to be in conflict will fight for its right to survive and has the weapons to do so now (the stag)
LiS2 may not have had spirit animals so much, but it had a lot of stuff represented by Chris's toys and other activities in CS, which I thought was pretty masterful.
It did with the wolf brothers story each episode began as a story like a family tale. Before the Storm the Raven and True Colours ditched the animal spirit.

Idk if they all count as spirit animals since it's something Sean is writing, but maybe. You know what... I'll go agead and say they do count.

How can you possibly make a video about owls in a LiS game, and NOT even mention Twin Peaks once?? "The owls are not what they seem." Original LiS had multiple Twin Peaks references. Hell, Rachel is basically Laura Palmer.

I have a theory i haven’t heard anyone mention before. I think there is a possibility that a bigger theme in this game could have to do with space. The extended trailer starts out with the characters talking about a shattered asteroid. You can also see an asteroid in the physical cover art. Also to note there was second red moon seen in the first trailer that was also in the first game. Finally, in the extended trailer we see a shift when max takes a picture of the moon and gets dizzy. Maybe there will be a somewhat similar ending like in the first game of saving the town vs a character. Just this time instead of a tornado wiping out the town, it would be an asteroid
