My husband and I moved our home and my quilting/crafting space starting in July from CO to TX, and we finally got our last load the last week of September. I packed all fabric in XL really durable moving bags. I used MadameSew bags to organize projects along with plastic project bins that fit perfectly in lg moving boxes w/fabric padding on the bottom on sides. We took my machines and long arm in our truck that we pulled a U-Haul trailer behind w/other things we didn’t want getting broken or missing. We had movers pack a POD. They did a wonderful job, and all my ikea shelves, etc made it in one piece. They also unloaded the POD at our new house. I’m still getting things organized, but it’s all out of bags and boxes. I hope I don’t ever have to do it again!! Hugs to you both and hope you get settled soon Ian❣️
I just moved from west coast to east coast and absolutely over packed my stash. We didn’t know where we would end up so my boxes were held for months by the movers. I tallied 300 total boxes of which 5 boxes were kitchen, 7 boxes were clothing and 76 boxes were crafting supplies.😝
I’m so glad to have stumbled upon your new podcast- both of your content is new to me. My moving suggestion is to label well. I live and sew on two continents. I packed up my Asian stuff and stored it about 9 months and only partially unpacked when I got back (temporary situation). I couldn’t find my sewing machine in storage! It wasn’t a great machine so I ended up buying a new and improved one- and then of course discovered the old one packed inside an unlabeled suitcase-oops. It all worked out😅.
We use the same moving company for our business and they have always provided top notch service. 😊 I am so happy to see Ian in a new and happy place. If I were to move again - I would put pool noodles on the poles of my long arm machine to protect them from being bent.
Oh my goodness…just stumbled on this video and it’s so timely. I’m getting ready to move my sewing room from one room in my house to a larger room down the hall. I know, I know, so what!? You say. It’s a big mess AND I’m prepping for new floors to be installed on the upper two levels. So, this is really overwhelming to me. I don’t want anyone touching my stuff. lol. Glad to know I’m not alone. Looking forward to the next video and your other channels. :)
Watching y'all while binding quilts and y'all's energy together is awesome! Ian, listening to you talk about quilting out of a van makes be think of Rob Appell and his videos where he quilts while camping. Listening to the trials of moving is reminding me of my parents' recent move from South Texas to East Texas and I ended up with a lot of my mom's sewing stuff, including her commercial embroidery machine that lived in my garage for a few months!
Rubbermaid type totes are the way to go when moving. All my quilting and crafting supplies go into totes when we move. I’m the same as you, Becca, sewing is my theory and if I can’t sew my anxiety goes through the roof. I’ve learned to bring an EPP project and a cross stitch project for those transition periods between moving from one country to another. To understand, my husband works for the State Dept and we move every two years and it could be so many places. We are currently in Africa and they don’t have quilting supplies here, I’m so thankful I brought about 80% of my quilt supplies with me. It has been my saving grace.
Moved almost 3 years ago. Instead of buying alot of packing materials, I wrapped all my breakable in my fat quarters, and other small yardage. I also wrapped my llarge paintings in my yardage.
It is wonderful when we have friends that take the fabrics we no longer need. I live near Rochester. NY and we have a couple of places to donate crafty items. One helps support a hospice home and the other supports eco friendly and they even take old sewing machines to keep these items out of the landfill. They then provide these items to those that can not afford to purchase full price crafty items as we’ll s free sewing classes,
I took over a sewing-alterations business in my small town. The space is 1200 sq ft, but the lady before was a hoarder and had a lot of old dingy stuff. I spent the first months cleaning, sorting, and organizing. After 4 months, she took all of her stuff out. I remember sitting in the empty space overwhelmed. But it was what I wanted and needed. I gradually moved in my own stuff, bought more, and have a 12ft wide design wall! I love this space and squeeze in my own quilting, never sew at home now. But the rent is high for my income and I worry how I will manage if I have to move out. I LOVE my shop and have made it my own.
A funny moving story: I'm sure y'all have heard that the movers will pack everything! My Dad was watching the movers take out his stuff while he munched on some cookies. Suddenly, he couldn't find his package of cookies! The movers had packed it!
I would say your first podcast was a success! I know in a previous video on one of your channels you talked about having mic issues or it didn’t sound good. I think you all sounded fine here. I liked how you all mentioned that when sewing you just need the basic stuff, and not all the gadgets. We just love gadgets as sewers but we really don’t need it. This podcast brought a smile to my face and I had a good giggle from it. We need more of this in our lives nowadays. Thanks for bringing that here. Keep up the good work and look forward to more videos on your channels and more podcasts.
Oh guys I have sooooo enjoyed your first podcast, and am looking forward to many more. As you know I lost my husband in June so I have been having quite low days, but when I’m listening to you , you put a smile on my face xxx bless you both xxx
Keep up the great chat! I’m enjoying it all. I would love to see how you do an inventory of all my quilting items and fabric. I moved into a smaller house and I still have plastic boxes in the garage that I have to keep searching through! I don’t remember what is in them! I forget from one search to the next!!! I keep thinking I should make lists but never get around to it. (Forgot to say I’m in my 70’s and been sewing and quilting for years and years and years!!!) 😮
This was very enjoyable….I loved the topics you covered. I’d love to hear about your inventory system. We moved into our house 40 years ago & so far I’ve taken over two rooms. I am converting my daughter’s bedroom into a sewing room & am deciding how to store my fabric. Right now it is in totes & boxes sorted by color. I’ll be watching your podcasts! 👏👏💕💙🧵
I absolutely love you two together! Your interaction is so comfortable. This episode especially hit so many issues I had to deal with when I moved several states away a few years ago.
Thanks for sharing moving our sewing things safely. Prepare a snack box, (sewing stuff, machine, scissors/rotery & mate, press pad & fabric) for the in between until I'm settled. Thanks 😊
Figuring out where to put things is the hardest thing for me about moving. My husband is going to finish a portion of our unfinished basement so I can have a larger sewing space (the spare room I am currently in is overflowing). Probably not this winter, but hopefully next winter. Will enjoy seeing & hearing different options & things to think about so I will be more prepared. Design is not my strong suit!!
I would love for you two to talk about the different fabric. What I mean is where you buy it from. Quilt shops, Joanne’s, hobby lobby and buying old clothes and cutting it up. I like quilt shop but I know others who say fabric is fabric. 😊❤
Create a know your stash list, quilting projects and how get them done, The first podcast was awesome yaw. 👍🏻questions and answers, simply love you guys❤️❤️❤️
Ya’ll. I’m in the middle of moving houses. You are speaking all my feelings. Feeling guilty of my stuff, having it all messed up in piles. I know it will be fine, but love this podcast. Thank you.
Our last move, we packed up the house to put it on the market. It took a year to sell the house, so I had one sewing machine and minimal projects. It was like Christmas when I got to setup my sewing room in my new place. I purged about 6 or 7 large black trash bags that went to a charity yard”age” sale. Mostly garment fabric. I have been sewing my whole life and have moved my sewing things so many times it just is part of our stuff. No different than the tons of car parts and tools in the garage we have to move. Every home has a garage and sewing room the same as it would have a kitchen. I haven’t sewn in a corner of the bedroom since the early 1980’s.
Boy, time just flew by while I was listening and working on my cross stitch. Great topic and looking forward to more. Long time subscriber for both of you.
Hello Becca and Ian, Thank you both so much for sharing moving your sewing room.. OMG that was so informative so know about your experiences so I can be aware. Love both your channels, God Bless, Chris ❣️👍
I just moved two weeks ago. The mountain of boxes of stash was incredible! I still have to get finished opening all of them and putting everything away. All my machines came with me including my Bernina Q20 Longarm.
Excellent podcast!!! Interesting from start to finish. The friendship is so real and fun to see. Hope the rest of the move goes smoothly! Looking forward to more of these.
Another comment from me! I’m laughing and crying at the same time……..I can relate to all of Becca’s talk about being in the hotel. I stayed at my daughters and shared the area with my two grandsons when I moved and had no room to sew! Six weeks without sewing……😢😢😢
We bought a shipping container as it will be stored until we get our new house and hauled everything in a Uhaul. Luckily everything made it safely from South Dakota to Arizona!
Becca & Ian, the joke hits differently when you learn that the box of ribbons were "Prize Ribbons"! LOLOLOL!!! Thanks for all the advice. We are getting ready to move from the West Coast upon retirement in several years. I'm already getting ready!
Great kickoff podcast. Fortunately I haven’t yet had to move my sewing stuff yet as I only started last year. I do dread the day when I have to move it all, especially the long arm.
Becca, I actually saw your channel first during one of your lives from the hotel back in the day. It's been fun watching the transition to the new sewing space. This is going to be a fun new direction. Can't wait to see how this podcast evolves.
Oh my goodness, I can so identify. I'm in transition now. I've been going through the emotions. I've had the "I can't find this or that" so I buy it again. I most definitely have my challenge stories too. Yes, sewing is my therapy so I'll be setting up my machine in the morning in my temporary home. Still waiting on housing to be approved but hey, they did have me start working already... 2 hour commute.😮 I love this series. Keep up the great work.❤
I moved from Temple TX to Norfolk VA and had to dive right into working and grad school. I am so happy to hear that you are having a transition period to acclimate and get use to, to be pseudoquote Judy Garland “not in Texas anymore”
The first 25 years of marriage we moved 18 times. (Job transfers suck). This last 24 years have been all in one spot. I always packed one room at a time. Last room packed was daughters room and hers was the first room unpacked. We chose the job and knew there would be moves but wanted to make “home” right away for her. But my sewing room was a close second to be unpacked. After a month or so of boxes I NEEDED to create.
Guys! 🎉congratulations on your new podcast! It was fun! I moved across my town about 2 years ago over a 3 or 4 month period as I had 2 homes. My move was nothing yours but a lot anyway 😅😂.
I had to pack up my sewing space (converted 2 car garage) earlier this year to paint the room. I bought small moving boxes from home depot (40+ of them) to hold my fabric. I did a purge at the same time and donated fabric to a guild for charity quilt making. Several tables from 4 foot to over 6 foot in length plus about 40 plastic project boxes and 6 cubby units which I put on wheels for mobility reasons... All of this and then some to paint room after storm damage. And I moved it all into living room and dining room. About seven years ago when I decided to move my sewing into converted garage, I had emptied the room (it was a second family room because my son and I were taking care of my elderly parents), to lay floor of ceramic tile. We live in Southern Arizona where it's 118 in summer so tile is cooler. Unfortunately tile guy laid tile improperly and I have to pack up the room AGAIN to jackhammer the entire floor and start over.
I was cackling out loud over all of this conversation. Also the PTSD of moving continents from eastern Mediterranean to Arizona with 2 children. My depression was so bad that I couldn't destash before (we had a huge container anyway). 10 years later, my sewing space is shared with business stuff that I'm slowly culling. I am in my Toad Hall - I'm going to croak here.
Well done, guys! Enjoyed this while sewing this morning. Question: considering your different styles, what's on each of your dream "to-do list" one day? And, what new skill(s) interest you and/or what dream quilt pattern would you tackle now that you're an experienced maker? What other hobbies do you have that take you away from sewing? When you're sewing alone, not making YT content - what does your room sound like? TV, Music, YT - etc. Most times I have something playing, but sometimes... not usually, but sometimes with serious concentration, I have to have a quiet room. Cheers to your success on this new channel!
This was so much fun! I have moved my sewing room way too many times! I now am in an apartment and have designated the living room as my sewing room. I have a great set up for my sewing area but certainly can't entertain non-sewists in this space! But that's OK. I have reached the point in my life where I need to consider getting "rid" of some of my stash. I don't want to just give it away, yet I can't imagine doing something like a "sale"! It's a real conundrum. And something I would love to hear suggestions from other people on.
Enjoyed the first show. Sew real. Talk about hurt feelings....when my quilter friends ask "who is this quilt for?" Why can't it just be...look what I made, isn't it pretty? I almost don't want to share anymore. Maybe I need to share on RUclips, you guys understand. 😅 Keep being real, look forward to the next one.
I've moved multiple times but only once as a quilter. Thankfully, I was just getting started 10 years ago & I do not have the machine, notions & fabric stash that I have currently.
I am in love with this program. The one thing of advice to another moving (moved a long arm business one but twice in a year in a half and then move my personal sewing room) donate but keep the best - rulers, books and material and my collection of sewing machines. just saying.
So good! Talk about anything. I love knowing you’re in my area. Maybe you could tell new quilters like me if there are upcoming events in NOVA or surrounding areas? I went to the Artistic Artifacts Kaffe event a few years ago in Alexandria. Got to meet the store team- and Kaffe and Brandon. So cool.
Congratulations on your new Podcast channel!!!! It was very enjoyable to listen to as I was sewing today. Great topic! I'm looking forward to your next one. 😊🥳🎉
Wahoo! First episode of what I hope to be many more. Congratulations you two, sending lots of love and hugs and wishes for tremendous success! ❤🎉 - Amie from Springfield, VA is in the house (your neighbor, just about 30 minutes away) 🏠 ↔️🏠
I sold my home in Ft. Lauderdale and at the same time was living in NJ. Packed up both homes & moved to No. Central, Florida. (I think we had a caravan of moving trunks traveling North to South & South to North.) I designed & built my home here in No. Central, FL. (All while undergoing surgery & treatment for “C” at University of Florida.) I must’ve been out of my mind! LOL! But it actually happened! Like you, Ian: It’s all good!🫶
This makes me so happy to see....while I miss you so much here in TX...I'm so happy you have people there that love you
I feel so lucky! 🍀 But I do miss many people in Texas. 🤗
@ just as long as you don't love them as much as you love us.......lol

NO WAY! You are kidding! I have heard of them packing an ash tray with ashes and all still in it.

I am touched to hear this Rosemary! So glad we could give you a smile.
Love the interaction between Becca and Ian. It reminds me of siblings who have the same temperament. I enjoy them talking together.
Better watch out! Soon that two rooms will become four, then eight...LOL!
I really enjoyed this!
True moving emotions!
And we love our stuff!
We do love our stuff!
Fantastic first episode! I feel like I’m sitting in the room with you and you covered so much. Great ideas and advice!
Awesome! Thank you!
I absolutely love you two together! Your interaction is so comfortable. This episode especially hit so many issues I had to deal with when I moved several states away a few years ago.
So glad!
Thanks for sharing moving our sewing things safely. Prepare a snack box, (sewing stuff, machine, scissors/rotery & mate, press pad & fabric) for the in between until I'm settled. Thanks 😊
Really loved this! I have never moved my quilting stuff. The closest I came was moving out of the bedroom and into my own sewing/home office.
Great podcast! Congratulations Becca & Ian. What a great way to wind down and laugh. Looking forward to the next one.
More to come!
Figuring out where to put things is the HARDEST part of all this. I feel like I have decision paralysis a lot.
I would love for you two to talk about the different fabric. What I mean is where you buy it from. Quilt shops, Joanne’s, hobby lobby and buying old clothes and cutting it up. I like quilt shop but I know others who say fabric is fabric. 😊❤

I loved this! Keep the podcasts comjng. It is so refreshing to hear your stories! Cannot wait for the next one.
Watching 7.30pm Thurs from Northern Ireland ❤
Hello Ireland! Thank you for taking the time to watch and glad you enjoyed the first episode.
Hello Becca and Ian, Thank you both so much for sharing moving your sewing room.. OMG that was so informative so know about your experiences so I can be aware. Love both your channels, God Bless, Chris ❣️👍
Thank you so much!
YES BECCA!! Please create a data base for us friends to know what we have and don’t buy fabric that we don’t need/already have !!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
bahahaha! don't tempt me!
So enjoy both of your videos. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
I just moved two weeks ago. The mountain of boxes of stash was incredible! I still have to get finished opening all of them and putting everything away. All my machines came with me including my Bernina Q20 Longarm.

Hello! Hope you enjoy the episode!
Becca & Ian, the joke hits differently when you learn that the box of ribbons were "Prize Ribbons"! LOLOLOL!!! Thanks for all the advice. We are getting ready to move from the West Coast upon retirement in several years. I'm already getting ready!
hahahhaaha!
Thank you for this podcast.
Our pleasure!

2024 Becca would tell 2021 Becca to NOT do livestreams in a hotel room!
Hey Becca and Ian. Totally loving this.

I know how that feels! I hate not being able to find what I need when I need it.
I moved from Temple TX to Norfolk VA and had to dive right into working and grad school. I am so happy to hear that you are having a transition period to acclimate and get use to, to be pseudoquote Judy Garland “not in Texas anymore”
Having a transition period is so important.
Thanks, that was like chatting with friends.
That is what we were hoping for with this podcast. Glad you liked it.
First time watching and loved it ❤

Hello. Loved your first Podcast and keep being yourselves-it’s great to watch.
Hi Becca and Ian! So glad I caught your first Episode!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Guys! 🎉congratulations on your new podcast!
It was fun! I moved across my town about 2 years ago over a 3 or 4 month period as I had 2 homes. My move was nothing yours but a lot anyway 😅😂.
So glad you enjoyed the podcast. I can't wait to see where this goes.
This premiere was fabulous, you both are naturals!❤️
Thank you so much!!
I had to pack up my sewing space (converted 2 car garage) earlier this year to paint the room. I bought small moving boxes from home depot (40+ of them) to hold my fabric. I did a purge at the same time and donated fabric to a guild for charity quilt making. Us too!
I learned to do EPP when we were displaced from my sewing stuff. I wish quilting was more portable. Enjoyed the podcast! Did not disappoint!
Becca & Ian. This was a great First Podcast. Looking forward to all the next ones !
Glad you enjoyed it!
LOL I have never heard that before! Too funny. Glad you get the PTSD.
I love you guys! I feel like I'm hanging out with old friends!
Watching for the 2nd time. I absolutely loved this premiere of your new podcast. SewOffKilter, you 'guys' together are just great together.
Fun chat, nice to watch while working late. 😊
These are some great questions! We will add these to our list of topics to talk about.
That’s a lovely treasure: “Mom made it!”💖
I couldn’t agree more!
this was great!! thanks
Glad you enjoyed it! We had a great time.
I know they don't mean to, but some times people just don't realize what they are saying can hurt.
You two are so enjoyable!
So glad you enjoyed the episode.
Organize your fabric before you pack it. Loved the podcast.
Such a fun first episode!! Congrats on the new adventure.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I enjoyed this! Thanks
I've moved multiple times but only once as a quilter. Thankfully, I was just getting started 10 years ago & I do not have the machine, notions & fabric stash that I have currently.
Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely enjoyed it!
Great podcast. Very enjoyable.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I hope never to move until I move to that big quilting bee in the sky. My stash will be someone else’s problem😂
That sounds like a good plan Di! lol
It’s great to spend some time with you two. ❤
So glad!😌
Tiffany, Scott, & Thumper are wonderful! They need to be “guests!”

@@SewOffKilter Thank you! Yes, “Milton” decided to stay away from my neck of the woods. Grateful! Thank you for thinking of me🫶
Love the quilts
Thank you!
So cool.
Sew Becca I thought you just moved… lord. Love this! Unfamiliar with your friend Ian, but subscribed. ❤ Congrats on Podcast ❤️ --- 🤗 Steph in Reston

- Amie from Springfield, VA is in the house (your neighbor, just about 30 minutes away) 🏠 ↔️🏠
Like you, Ian: It’s all good!🫶
Wow! That was a LOT to deal with! Glad you got settled!!!
@@SewOffKilter amen! I felt your hearts🫶
Great podcast
I know that feeling. My granddaughter told me " Grandma, you have a problem!"
You don’t have a problem! Be creative!!!
I too am in the middle of a move. Yikes, have 70 yrs of stuff to dissolve, so I get it !
Oof! Wishing you the best of luck as you work your way thought that.
