  • Hello friends! Today I'm sharing how I'm teaching my boys about the real history of Thanksgiving - the good, the bad, the ugly. These things are hard to teach about sometimes, but I am so very passionate about raising empathetic children and this is how it starts. Hope you enjoy today's video & can use some of these resources in your own homeschool!

If you are new here, I'm so glad you're here! I'm a 3rd year homeschooling mom of 5 boys (ages 8, 7, 4, 2 and 11 months!). We have homeschooled from the very beginning when my oldest was kindergarten age, but even three years in I'm still learning about this homeschool mom gig. I love sharing a real and raw look at what it's like homeschooling with lots of littles under foot.

This is wonderful! When I learned of the true Thanksgiving story 5 or so years ago, I was appalled. Since then I have married someone with part Native American heritage and we have a 2 year old, and I definately want to teach her about her heritage and what really happened.

My boys loved Pedro’s Journal! Not specific to Thanksgiving, but ties in really well…We Are Water Protectors is also so good-in thinking about modern day indigenous peoples! Also, I am Not a Number-about residential schools…

Love this Nikki! I took a similar approach last year! The 1621 book was SO GOOD! I can’t think right now of all the other books that we read, but Thanksgiving fell during our Indigenous Peoples mini unit so it fit perfectly!

Can't love this video enough! I was not taught a lot of things accurately in public school and never knew the difference until homeschooling.

Most of the content in these books I was not taught! It has been a wild ride re-learning it all! Glad this could help! :)
