Sir the Charter Act of 1833 brought in the civil services in India, the person who said the statement"Indians are unworthy of higher ranking posts"(anything above 500 pounds) was Cornwallis.
Shouldn't Charter Act 1853 be the right answer for Open Civil Service Competition? How can 1813 or 1833 be the choice? In 1833 Charter Act, it was dismissed after huge opposition from Court of Directors..
@@shivamkasaudhan9366 the question is what do you exactly mean by 'made to open'? There's no sign of open competition in 1833 apart from mentioning in the charter act which later got dismissed. Whereas in 1853 act, open competition for all was announced, & then in 1854 Macauly Commission & in 1855, first written exam.. So which one do you think is more appropriate for open competition?
@@sarmadkamran58 dear .. As per my inference ..made to open is simply mean when this provision came in existence no matter when it was enforced . Like if a door is opened and then closed subsequently and then it is again opened after sometime ..won't u consider the door be opened at first instance?
@@shivamkasaudhan9366 yes but in this case, The door was never opened at all. There was an attempt to open the door but huge resistance from the opposite side didn't make that to happen. If you read the charter, you'll see "the provision was negated after opposition from the CODs".

But after 1857 British gave some of northern part of the state(TARAI) to Nepal who helped them during the the first war of independence. Later it was reorganised and creation of new state 'UNITED PROVINCE' was done. 2) Jhansi-- After 1857 it was merged with Gualior state and later United province (today's Uttar Pradesh). But third example is quite different 3) Princely state of Udaipur -- Udaipur was also taken over by EIC in 1852 invoking Doctrine of Lapse because the then time ruler of the state Maharana Swarup Singh didn't have any biological son so Maharana Shambhu Singh was adopted who ruled Udaipur but a British resident was also appointed to help him. (Source:Wikipedia) So we can say this proclamation wasn't retrospective but some exeptions were there. eg.-- Udaipur.
