- In today's jam packed episode, I review the best Moon Phase watch under $500 (the German made Zeppelin Hindenburg) and the best Swiss made mechanical Moon Phase under $1000 (the Oris Big Crown Complication, ref. 01 581 7566 4061-07 5 19 53) I also welcome back a dearly missed old friend from Tissot Janeiro and start the hunt for my next medium term purchase, a tough little diver from Sinn.

moon phase watch, a must have if you are like me, a werewolf
LOL, thank you!
Best regards,
TGV
I used to sail, old habits die hard.
Or like me a Muslim preparing for Ramadan. :)
Zeppelin must be mine!!! I will hunt down a silver backed one. What an affordable beauty..,
Want to give you a big thanks for the channel. I started watching a few months back for the information and knowledge you hold on watches but keep coming back for the entertainment factor. Keep it going!
Bought the Oris Big Crown Complications after watching your review. Love it. Thanks for doing what you're doing.
That Tissot Janeiro is one of the most stunning watches I have seen. Everything about it is perfect.
Sailors can use moonphase to determine the tides.
Muslims can use it to determine the lunar (Islamic) calender, especially useful for determining things like when Ramadan starts or ends, and the Eid holidays which are dependent on the phase of the moon.
Werewolves can use it to know when to avoid going outdoors (that was a joke).
And asides from all that, it is a very beautiful aesthetically pleasing complication with history back to the medieval period of horology as an ingenius feat of human ingenuity...and also a great conversation starter when someone looks at your watch.
Me personally though, I don't see the purpose of automatic/mechanical moonphase watches because you would need to keep setting the moon everytime you pick it up if you don't use it every day (unless you have a winder, and winders are expensive). So I opted instead for my only quartz watch in my collection of automatic mechanical watches, the Zeppelin Moonphase as described in this video (but in silver; I'm a sucker for silver dials).
Tayyab Pirzada I live on an island and EVERYTHING revolves around the tides. The phases of the moon are not related to the tides; that is a myth.
@@rogerbaker2068 phase maybe, but the moon itself is DIRECTLY related to the tides.
@@fortbend7517 did he say it isn't?
Jacek Szulist did he say it isnt?
Oris Moonphase is absolutly pure class! Just a superb review there! Can't wait for the next review! Thank you very much TGV for keeping the watchcommunity so strong!
Thank you Shailen, very flattered. Glad you liked it, was a bit go a gamble but paid off.
Best regards,
TGV
A bit late to the party but I just discovered you channel recently and love it! Great stuff.
Regarding the 52-week complication, I actually love that concept. I personally like loading bars or progress bars, and to see a year marked in an analog way is just fascinating. It's kind of cool to look down at your wrist and immediately have a visual representation for how far along the year you've come. I make imaginary markers on that chapter ring for my handful of most important occasions for the year and love seeing that hand slowly make its way all the way around.
Though you're absolutely right, the hands on that Zeppelin are easy to mix up. Still happens to me all the time and I've had that watch for weeks.
Ordered my Zeppelin moonphase today. I didn't have a watch for over 10 years. Now I have bought 2 so far this year. The other was a seiko sx013. Find myself looking at watches fairly often now. I am developing a "watch thing" after watching this channel.
Really like your watch reviews TGV. I'm yet to view one in which I didn't learn something. Thanks for the channel and all your great work.
Love the next sinn! Can't wait for the review! Keep the good work, cheers!!!
I've been looking at that Oris lately, and you've certainly done an excellent job presenting it.
fantastic channel, a subscription is clearly a must.
looking forward to new videos, keep up the good work!
That Zeppelin is stunning, love the Arabic numerals. Looking forward to the Sinn too
what an excellent selection moon face has such appeal for me the dimensions and complications just perfect thanks so much for bringing these timeless pieces to us
Very good review points. Now enjoying the blue dial Zeppelin moonphase with a darker brown leather croc Isuya band fitted right after unboxing. The week of the year complication now helps me time this year's path to the Sinn 104. Thanks for the reviews. You are a gent.
I absolutely adore that Oris! That dial is gorgeous and the size would be perfect for my smaller wrists! Definitely going to the top of the "When I can afford" list for after college!
& Congratulations on the Tissot, what a stunner!
And thank you for another great video as always!
Have a great day, Nathan
Great vid as usual TVG. I'm trying to get caught up on your videos but I'm glad to see you're back & healthy.
Thank you DG!
Best regards,
TGV
Did you review the Orient sun and moon?? Love those watches!! Excellent reviews as always!! Keep up the fantastic work!!
Yet another excellent, informative video. The pink shirt, the neon green band, and the blue face (the watch I mean), great! I just discovered Zeppelin watches and This video has helped a lot!
The hands for weeks is extremely useful for semiconductor manufacturing as well as military planning. Projects and missions are often planned by work week and is brought up in meetings and email often. I work in semiconductor for my civilian job and also belong to a national guard unit. I've never seen a watch with this complication before either but I just bought the zepplin online because it would benefit my life immensely. Thanks TGV!
2-week old subscriber, and I'm already running out of your channel's content to watch since I've been binge-watching nonstop. Just wanted to let you know that you sold me on the Graf Zeppelin, courtesy of Long Island Watch! Many thanks to you and Marc!
I had to look for your review about moon phase watches, thanks God you made a video with the watch I've been thinking to buy, The Zeppelin Hindenburg.
I purchased the same 2004 Oris moon phase about a month ago before I saw this video. I'm happy see that someone else appreciates this truly beautiful time piece. I think it actually looks better than the equivalent model that Oris makes today
I would have most certainly missed the zeppelin! It's on budget so goes into the list! Thank you so much!!!
A Janeiro + Oris Big Crown is a lovely combo- This is what trips me up, so many watches so little time
Hi TGV,
It seems you are doing well and filled up with energy. That's good to know!
I'm looking for a nice sports watch as a mid term goal. But I'm not sure about the Sinn. Although I would like to pick a Sinn. I have to see it in person to decide.
Again congrats on buying back the nice Tissot. It's a very special watch and will definitely go up in value over the time.
The Zeppelin as a mechanical watch would be a (pricey) dream. It's looking gorgeous with its blue dial. And the calendar weeks are very useful for every office guy. All our launch or shipping dates are determined in calendar weeks. For example Christmas sweets are up for sale in cw 36 every year (that's end of August/beginning of September!). And when our marketing guys told me a new product is going to ship end of cw 43, I could glance at my wrist and know how many weeks I have left to list the product. There is a very nice Junghans Meister, called "Agenda", featuring the same complication.
Best regards,
Claus
These are the three best looking watches I've seen review. The oris is to die for. That is a stunning piece with that lizard strap.
My Zeppelin arrived today. Loving it ❤️
What model
Love the videos, very enjoyable. As for knowing what week it is, personally that addition is very attractive to me as I have to know what week number it is on a daily basis. People working in accounts or business will find that very useful.
I'm drooling over that Tissot...but also the Zeppelin is amazing looking too. That may actually go on my future list...
Hey TGV, great video! I was happy when I saw how long the video was :D!
Have you ever thought of making a state of the collection every 3 months instead of every 6 months? Your collection seems to be changing at a much faster rate than it used to, so it might be worth thinking about. Obviously due to the medical situation you've had to let go of some pieces this time which we all understand I'm sure. I'm curious to know what decisions you've made! Take care and stay healthy...
Great review, the attention to detail on Oris watches is really outstanding.
Thank you :D
Best regards,
TGV
Great video tgv. I was actually considering getting the zeppelin in the silver dial, but I decided to go with the seiko sarb035 instead. Love that Oris though....
That Oris was unbelievably good. Keep up the good work TGV.
Tissot written the same on my Tissot Porto too. Love it !
Just got my Zeppelin today, it’s beautiful!! ❤️
Did u get the ladies or men's and would you recommend this watch
@@bushcraftgirl Ladies and I would, it’s nice.
@@dreamsofkaia7275 I'm quite late, but have you had any problems with the acrylic crystal and scratches? That is my biggest concern.
@@kristiank.3047 I haven’t, I don’t use the watch very often however. But it does look very nice and is still working fine.
Great Chanel. New viewer and I just joined the horologists by purchasing my first "real watch." I made my purchase based on your recommendation regarding the Graf Zepplin Hindenburg Moonphase from Long Island Watch. Thanks,
Very nice video. The shape of the case from the Zeppelin reminds me very much on the cases of the Junkers Bauhaus models. The Tissot looks so beautiful on the ostrich strap.Best regards:)
Great video!! Love your reviews and recommendations. I was wondering if you would know where I can find a janeiro?
Cheers
Keep up the great work!
I was a bit sad when you let go of the tissot. It's looks so nice in your collection. Another great video TGV.
Amazing video as usual!
In Sweden we use week numbers alot. For example "what weeks are you on holiday this summer?"
I got the SKX after seeing one of your videos and im leaning on getting the Zeppelin now, i realy want a moonphase Watch for my Collection.
i just bought this ORIS moonphase :D I'm so excited !!
Where did u get it I've been searching
Glad to see the Tissot back. It's a beauty:)
Having worked for German industrial companies, they always talk the week number. Drove us crazy for awhile. So, I am not surprised they had this feature.
Just ordered the Zeppelin. My second purchase inspired by your channel. I need to stop following the channel :) Thanks TGV!
Very good review. Oris has been always on my list of favorite watch brands, especially Oris aquis. With Glycine, best entry level Swiss watch. Your Moon phase is truly lovely watch and it perfectly suits you. Tissot Janeiro is new for me and I think it's beautiful watch! Such a vintage classy look. Thanks for making this Sunday afternoon /evening so enjoyable. Great job. big like!
Thank you so much Mike, of course it goes without saying you have impeccable taste.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
Best regards,
TGV
The Oris textured dial looked beautiful. Great vid TGV (:
Thank you Edward. So glad you liked it, still kicking myself about it!!!! ;-)
Best regards,
TGV
Hi TGV, I really love your Channel, keep on creating those Videos!
To keep things short, where did you get the Tissot Janeiro from? I really love this vintage style.
Thank you,
Greetings from Austria, Michael
Hello TVG! Would you mind discussing the Orient Sun Moon? I think it's price is an incredible value but fee like I could be missing something, it is just gorgeous. Love your videos and reviews!
Great video TGV! I love these longer videos, I go grab a cup of tea, sit back and relax :)
The Sinn looks great and at a wonderful size! Having smaller wrists too I hate finding a lovely watch and realising it's far too large :(
SO glad you got the Tissot again! Such a beautiful piece and I can't get enough of it, look forward to lots of pictures of it on Instagram lol.
Still can't comprehend that Oris was under $1,000, even when you told me in the live show I just couldn't believe it. Such a classy piece with brilliant complications :) Beautiful watch and I hope to see you keep it xD
Look forward to the next video,
James.
Thank you Kibby, so glad you approve. How long until you get your Aquis? How much is the 40mm version over in the UK?
Do you think you will go used or new? The crazy thing is, I STILL want one!!! Just being greedy, but glad I got an Oris back in the line up. Are you on Facebook by any chance? I don't blame you if you are not. Might be cool way to promote to he kids your age. (wow feel old saying that).
Best regards,
TGV
+The Urban Gentry In all honesty I think I'll be looking at the end of next year for am Aquis, all depends on what job position I go into next lol. It depends, I want to experience brand new for my first proper Swiss watch but at the same time I know I could save a good few hundred pounds lol, I guess we'll see when I save up enough.
I don't use Facebook, but I agree it would be a great way to promote. Might have to look into it :) Right now I basically use everything but Facebook though lol.
Dear TGV thank you for the interesting review.
About the calender weeks. We plan our software releases on calender weeks. But I personally would not need that complication on a watch. Well it would be fascinating to see that in a mechanical movement. Interesting side note: USA and Europe seem to use another standard for calender weeks. So in Switzerland it's currently week 34 and in the US it seems to be 35 (?), if I did get that right. Have a great day.
I've been caught in a dilemma for weeks now: Blue dial vs. silver dial (with gold-plated case) Zeppelin moon phase... I just can't make up my mind. They're both so beautiful.
I totally understand, its a tricky one. I would go with the silver, it offsets the blue of the moon phase better. However the blue is stunning. Happy hunting,
Best regards,
TGV
The Urban Gentry Thanks for your input, TGV! I Think I will end up getting the silver one after all :)
silver is synonymous with the moon
Your intro is always pure class! I think my favourite was the American psycho one!
Great video as alway sir; I love that Oris.
The intro is always great. The florescent NATO looks fun!
Thank you sir!
Best regards,
TGV
Have you done a video on the purpose and history of moon phase complications? I've no idea what they're about & curious. In other news I ordered the three bright natos from red rooster and one more, cheers!
Wow, that Oris is gorgeous.
I have one of those Tissot-Omega. Belonged to my grandfather. Very interesting watch.
Great video. Glad you are back and the Tissot is back :)).
Meanwhile is Oris a real moonphase or just day / night
Thanks
wow, really like the Oris. Very smart!
Great choice of Sinn. I've been waiting for you to get into the EZM range. Amazing watches. I love my U2. I feel the same way about the Sinn bracelet but I've gotten more compliments on it than any other watch bracelet. EVERYONE around me seems to love it. I like it but I think it looks dated. At any rate, 99% of the time I keep it on. Great vid, as usual... Thank you!!!
Nice video again ( I know it's one year old...). I live in Finland, and at work (as well as at home)we use a lot the weeks to set calendar apointments.
I work in the Medicare industry and we count the weeks till annual enrollment period (last 3 months). Great video!
Love the Oris moon phase watch! just bought my 1st Oris(a Big Crown from the 1980s) and plan on an Oris moonphase somewhere down the line.....
Love that Oris!! Beautiful piece TGV.
Thank you Jonathan :D
Best regards,
TGV
I've been thinking about buying a new watch for over a year now, and I gave myself quite a substantial budget of €1500 but I just couldn't find anything that I really, really liked. Then I watch this video and see the Zeppelin, completely different price range than I first thought I'd be in, but I just fell in love with it and bought it.
Bought the Oris Moonphase after watching this video (38mm). Got an alligator strap from debeer as well. Keep up the great work!
Where did u buy it I'm looking for one
Great video! Ok, what was the gold watch on the black leather strap??
I work in retail and here everything is about calendar weeks. Since all stores have different delivery days it's easier for wholesale to just specify the week. Also, employee holidays and special offers are specified by weeks.
It's much easier to write "week 38" than to write "19.09. - 25.09." on promotional material for instance since you'd figure out much quicker when that is if you know it's currently week 36.
Week number complication is useful for people in finances for making balances - also secretaries, businessmen/women could use it for writing corporative memos, finding unallocated time way ahead (say, ten weeks from now) when scheduling appointments, etc.
You man the man, wow i love your job
Nice review... By the way, at my job the week number is important for payroll issues. Also, I wonder if gardeners or farmers would time their plantings based on the week of the year.
Greetings from Ireland. I really love the Oris, I've learned something about how moon phase work's. Also love the Tissot. I've always worn an automatic, I've never felt comfortable with quarts but that's just me.
Thank you Bernard, I must be honest, with the exception of a very few, (the flighty for one) quart watches don't typically do it for me.
Best regards,
TGV
that sinn you have a crush on looks freaking amazing, you have to have it :D
Excellent Review!! Love the Oris , looking at a classic date Oris myself.. Also glad the Tissot is back, the Le loche is on the list for me!! Glad all is well. Enjoy the Sun! BMJ ENGLAND
Thank you Benjamin. LOVE the Le Loche, go for it!
Best regards,
TGV
well done - nice watches .... 1:00 in the morning over here in croatia and just watched your video...
=)
Haha, a night owl hey? Thank you Ante :D
Best regards,
TGV
HAHA only when I'm on vacation...=)
moon phase I love that complication, also helps when taking care of plants and astronomy purposes as well as tides.. however If I ever go for a moonphase I will go for a quartz... I need to be able to check it continuously, having to set it up on an automatic every time loses its usefulness
Just came across your vlogs during my research into buying a Ladies Rolex Pearlmaster, some gorgeous models available.Like your presentation style, very classy...look forward to future vlogs.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
hi tgv. is the moon phase shift when you set the hour. or you have to cycle through the 31 days in order to set the moon?
I don't know if it is a purely german thing to do, but we do count calender weeks here. for example when arranging a holiday that is still some time away one might say: we are going to france in calender week 36 and 37. I also preorder stock that way.
Being german as well, I can confirm that :)
Same in denmark
In Soviet Russia, the calendar weeks count you
Same in Sweden.
you germans are on another level :D...and I am not making fun of you, I really mean it
hi tgv the oris is a lovely watch ,the sinn is so cool
and with red details.
best regards Johan
TGV , you asked about the reason for acweek of the year complication on the Zeplin. I worked with European automotive production and the weeks of the year were used constantly to schedule production and deliveries. I never saw it in the US , but definately in Europe.
accounting in logistics use it all the time as well to track documentation...
A few seconds in - the strap on the Squale is amazing!
I've recently started taking more of an interest in watches and have been watching various RUclips channels to start to get a feel for the hobby. After watching a few of your videos I just had to hit the subscribe button. Love the way you describe the watches and explain things. The Zeppelin not only looks great, but seems great value. I'm not in the Breitling/Omega/Rolex etc price range so cost is a factor for me. That doesn't mean I'm not prepared to spend a bit more on a watch, I'm just not up their in the big league. I'm into clocks as well, got a couple of english longcase clocks. One dated 1765 and one circa 1820. Sorry, going of topic there! Once again love the channel and best wishes from the U.K.
In Ian Fleming's novel "From Russia With Love", Red Grant, dubbed by the newspapers as "The Moon Killer" also had a moon phase watch.
I just got the Zeppelin watch after your review (silver dial) I can't wait for it. I think I got it for a steal $192. Thanks for the review!!
where did you get the zeppelin for $192? Can you share the link please?
Love that Zeppelin! I think it would look great on a steel mesh bracelet.
Top quality as always. I was wondering if you know from where i could buy that Oris? I'm in the UK, hoping not to spend more than £1000 if possible. Thanks and hope to hear back from you!
hi TGV.
would you recommend to buy the watch online from the long island watches?
Hi TGV, Great video as always. A couple of brief thoughts / comments:
I know some production dating is labelled up according to the week in the year the item is produced in. For example car tyres. E.G.: on a tyre side wall '3214' would indicate that the tyres were manufactured in week 32 year 2014. I'd imagine there may be other examples too, so this complication may be useful for people working in such industries in some way, though quite specialist overall.
RE: the Oris Moonphase - whilst watching the video I wondered if the movement is in fact larger, but if only the centre section which happens to show the rotor is being displayed? The movement would of course have to be one with a reduced sized rotor, similar to the way some PP watches are made, but placing it in the centre rather than being more to one side. I could be completely wrong here of course, so just a thought :)
Keep up the great work!
Best wishes - Paul.
Share your love of moonphase.
Weeks on a watch!! guess it's not useful for most people. But we plan everything at work by the week number (33 btw hahah)! But I guess the Zeppelin not exactly a beater for work. 3 beautiful watches though.
Oh I pulled the trigger on the Alpinist, it's on its way from Japan.
Keep up the good work mate.
What about the Glycine Combat 6 moonphase?
Swiss automatic with date complication as well.
Tissot back - good move. Getting a Sinn back, GREAT MOVE. I'm a huge Sinn fan. You should get one or two back. The U200 looks like a beautiful little soldier. The tegamented steel looks so tough and awesome.
TVG:
I'm a new and very enthusiastic watch collector and have recently purchased the SEIKO Pepsi SKX and love it!!! Your videos are incredible and offer such a wealth of knowledge.
I would love to hear your thoughts for a future video comparing the SEIKO Premier Kinetic Drive Moon Phase vs. the ORIS Big Crown Moon Phase or their standard Atelier Moon Phase complication. Keep up the good work. -S-
I have to look up the week (currently at my smartphone) fairly regulary, because of some meetings that are every odd week, so it would be kind of usefull.
thank you for telling me. appreciate it
Hi TGV, wats your take on Mathey-Tissot Edmond Moon Phase Silver Dial Men's Watch H1886RPI
, its a Swiss made with Quartz movement..pl share your thoughts
I agree that watches with complicated functions should be on quartz not automatic. I got tired already for just setting the day/date on my automatic watch and sometime I just ignore these settings when I am in hurry.
Your enthusiasm is infectious ! Thank you TGV!
Thank you Rick :D

Great Oris! Congrats! Elgin money well spent ;-)
Thank you :D
