What's worse? Luka Doncic, Jaren Jackson Jr, and Trae Young being picked immediately after Marvin Bagley, or Barry Sanders, Derrick Thomas, and Deion Sanders being picked immediately after Tony Mandarich?
@@mekacrab that 2nd case I mentioned was the 1989 NFL Draft, where 4 of the first 5 picks made it in the Hall of Fame; Troy Aikman, Barry Sanders, Derrick Thomas, and Deion Sanders. The only player picked in the Top 5 who did NOT make the Hall of Fame was Tony Mandarich, who was picked 2nd overall by the Green Bay Packers. As previously mentioned, the next 3 picks were the aforementioned B. Sanders, Thomas, and D. Sanders. While Thomas and the Sanderses all had Hall of Fame careers, Mandarich ended up being one of the biggest busts in NFL history (it has since come to light that the biggest reason Mandarich ended up becoming such a major bust in the NFL in the first place was because his college production that made him the 2nd overall pick was fueled by steroid use, and that Mandarich quit steroids right when he went pro because he knew he would get caught if he didn't). Of course, the fact that the Packers passed on 3 future Hall of Famers would be forgotten about within 4 years thanks to trading for Brett Favre and signing Reggie White in free agency. Considering how successful the Packers have been in the last 3 decades, it's easy to forget how much their franchise could have been set back by the Mandarich pick when 3 Hall of Famers were available.
@@DTS_I Now by no means am i I saying the 1 player picked ahead of AND the 3 players picked immediately after Bagley are going to be Hall of Famers (we won't know the full extent of THAT until years down the road), but I am saying that we've had 2nd overall draft busts that bad before, using the case of the 89 NFL draft as a prime example. Now that I think about it, this exact scenario happened AGAIN with Darko Milicic in the 03 NBA draft (though half of the HoFers taken in the first 5 picks are not eligible for the HoF yet, as one just retired and the other is still active).
Ego too much or too little is lethal. Believe in yourself too little, you’re too scared to make it. Believe in yourself too much, you lack humility to grow and get better
I'm a Kings fan and I think the reason Bagley hasn't panned out is his attitude. He thinks he's better than he is and doesn't do the things to make himself better.
The bigest problem was everybody new it was gona be like this. Bagley was listed at 6'11, but at draft combine was measured at 6'8. So he had skill of a big in a body of a wing, but they drafted him anyway, banking on potencial, just stupid😬😬
I watched him play multiple times in college and honestly none of this was ever surprising. Nothing ever stood out to me about his game, he was always just bigger and more athletic that the person guarding him. His game was always straight mid, I think the high school mixtape craze era really helped homie out back in the day
Same. Big Duke fan I knew he wasn’t gonna be a good nba player let alone “generational”. He just survived off of bully ball and tip in’s over smaller guys and was a black hole on defense. Could never shoot, terrible bball IQ, no footwork. I don’t get how scouts can be so bad at their job. Anyone who thought he was a better prospect than Luka shouldn’t be a scout
What’s crazy is when I worked the line at chipotle Marvin Bagleys dad would show up almost everyday and was super picky about his bowl. He was pretty rude to everyone except me because I knew his order and knew he hated the foods mixing lol
Lmao this is hilarious cause I can see it. I was in the same class as Marvin during AAU and remember his dad getting defensive at all the parents accusing him of cheating and holding back his son (they did). Their team was stacked tho they had him and Darius Garland with a bunch of other future D1 talent.
I knew Bagley was going to be a bust when I was on plane watching a Summer League game and this guy at 6'8" playing center was throwing Bagley around with little effort and Bagley never did anything. He could not get any position on his guy that's probably in the G-League right now. After that I was like "dude is gonna be a bust."
Not taking anything away from Aaron Gordon and you're definitely right that he jumped on the opportunity when he had the change of scenery but having Jokic pass him the ball with his ability to move without the ball and finish at the rim has also been really beneficial to AG. He's an excellent complimentary player for Jokic being the amazing passer that he is.
@@alexnguyen1284 Marvin Bagley III was just a Solid guy that never lived up to expectations. At best he is decent, maybe good. At worst, he would be a Shaqtin a Fool candidate. You never know, he got time to break out into a potential all star
That couple years of drafting was so sick. Tre, luka, ja, Zion, etc. but I honestly thought somebody from one of those draft classes would have some something huge by now.
I don't let the media or analyst tell me who's a bust and who's not. When the media are the ones who dictate who get into a specific sport HOF while hardly none of them ever played sports, I really don't give a fuck what any of them have to say.
Its the very same picks with very similar reasons for the picks #2 Sam Bowie #3 Michael Jordan and it looks like the outcome could be be close to the same if Luka can get his Scottie Pippen. Luka is on a whole different level .
Idk about this. I know he never lived up to his number 2 overall draft status but to say that he’s the biggest bust in recent memory is a little wild. If you want to say that Anthony Bennett “too far back” to be considered in the category for recent memory, which I don’t but whatever, then fine. Look at the draft before Bagley’s. Markelle Fultz was drafted before all NBA player Jayson Tatum and Fultz has done nothing to show he’s anything more than an average guard. Or if you think injures played a man part in his failure then fine. Josh Jackson, the 4th pick, is out of the league right now
I think one of the biggest issues was the Kings organization. We often forget the human aspect of basketball. They were never a good fit and the Kings dont have a great history when it comes to developing bigs. Just like Wiseman, players are all talented but fit matters
Blaming it on the Kings? How did he not fit the Kings? The year the Kings drafted him was because of fit. He struggled with injury his whole time in Sacramento. But sure blame it on Sacramento 😂.
The kings do a lot wrong but not this. His dad didn’t want him on the kings as soon as he was drafted and made numerous public statements about it. He also took ages longer to come back from injuries of similar stature compared to other players. Luke Walton wasn’t the best coach by any stretch but Bagely didn’t want to play for the organization for day 1. (Things you realize and pick up as a life long kings fan)
*21 pts. , 11 rbs. per game at 61 % FG at Duke!* that's why he went ahead of Luka. Any HS All-American putting up those numbers would appear to be the best player in the draft.
The problem is, Luka came from a professional league which is literally the second most competitive league outside of NBA. He was not playing with high school kids or players around his age, he was playing with professional grown men who was playing for a living.
@@InfiniteCoreXD Name one other player in a past NBA draft who was a EuroLeague champion and MVP at the time. Also neglecting to mention Luka was like 16 or 17 during such an amazing achievement.
@@TrueGuardify it ain’t about being euro league mvp that means nothing once you enter the nba. It’s about luka living up to the hype, not all players in general are gonna live up to it.
So I’m from Arizona. He was without a doubt the best prospect to ever come out of the state. But his problems were that: 1. In reality he’s more of a 4 without the high level skill set of a modern 4, so he’s shoehorned at the 5. 2. His special skill was and is his athleticism and finishing ability. His second jump is one of the quickest/best. But that advantage gets minimized once you get to the pros, where elite college and prep finishers are now merely above average. 3. That athleticism didn’t really translate to the defensive end. He plays like a guy who had a physical advantage all his life before the pros and never learned a counter, or a different way to produce and adapt. Never learned how to evolve his game and think the game because he didn’t really need to.
I’ll never forget the “spin move” video of his off season workouts. It was going in to his third season, and he looked like straight trash with no one guarding him.
It's funny. I thought he was gonna be bust simply because I didn't like his last name Bagley. Idk why but it just doesn't sound cool and I had a negative bias towards him.
As a kings fan I can say that as bad as Bagley was for us he was far from the worst draft pick the kings have made. He looks worse because of luca being drafted behind him. I thought we were going to take Luka because Vlade Divac was our GM at the time, not sure why he didnt but maybe it had to do with the fit. Bagley at least had a decent rookie season, he wasnt Thomas Robinson or Jimmer Fredette or Nic Stauskus, he has a lot talent and you can see it sometimes. He was supposed to play with Fox like Sabonis does but it didnt work, thats why you take the best player in the draft over the best fit.
I disagree with Bagley being a bust okay he is the 2nd overall pick i can understand that he didn't develop the player we expected but at least he got his second chance when he was traded to detroit. He was drafted in a bad situation and the kings used him badly as they have a reputation to develop poorly their younger players. Bagley needs to be more consistent with his game improve his shooting and he will be in the league for a longer time.
Bagley on the Kings honestly wasn't that bad. That one year with Dave Joerger he fit in perfectly with the run & gun playstyle. I mean sure Dave Joerger limited his minutes and had him restrained, but Bagley was putting up solid numbers on less than 20 minutes per game. I think the dysfunction in the Kings front office and all the coaching changes, on top of being plagued by injuries was what led to him becoming a "bust."
Anthony Bennett > Kwame Brown > add a third player here (Olowokandi is a good pick) when it comes to the top 3 worst first round picks for the last 30 years.
As a die-hard Sacramento Kings fan, I was so mad when the Kings passed on Luka Doncic and drafted Marvin Bagley III instead. I wanted that De'Aaron Fox and Luka Donćic duo on the Kings so damn badly but hey at least when my Sacramento Kings have a good team now so I'm happy about that but man imagine De'Aaron Fox and Luka Doncic on the same team
Marvin Bagley? More like Barfing Madly. No but all jokes aside it’s a real shame as a kings fan I’ve always been really supportive of him and at first thought he just needed time. At least he helped us get Sabonis
Kings was the worst developmental team at the time they had bagley. I mean Bagley still a bust but lets not change the fact that Kings were the worst org that time
If I had ever thought Bagley was game changer...I might agree with this video. That 2018 draft was underwhelming at best. Doncic is the only standout to date.
Wow… a wise man once told me that if you 6’11 and play more than 25 minutes you should at least get 8-9 rebounds a night. Bruh…smh 🤦🏾♂️ all you gotta do is stand under the basket…. I guess he didn’t want it…
I was going to say the huge comparison difference between Bagley and Robinson is that the Knicks made the Playoffs while Bagley was nowhere to be found I take that back Kings did make the playoffs too but Bagley didn't do anything
Aaron Gordon got a fresh start on a great team with a great or at least really good coach. Bagley went to Detroit. Not a fair comparison, even if Bagley is actually the problem.
They give so much chances to black ballers based highly on potential despite of shown immaturity (due to insufficient experience) and statistical low IQ (low grades or low IQ test). Also, background culture ( family and close friends backgrounds) as these will influence the athlete outlook and maturity in transitioning from school basketball to the professional league. Prime example is the Ja Morant case. Marvin Bagley and his family has the Black Entitlement problem, which is very common among the league's 'high potential' players and their families/friends.
He was given the opportunity. But he'd get injured and recover for long periods of time more often than not. Completely lost that opportunity when Monte McNair took over as GM. His father was also annoying AF.
1000% blamed on vivek ranadive and vlade divac, failed to develop his weaknesses into strengths AKA right hand, shooting, defense, rebounding…. so much potential this kid had but wasn’t surrounded by the correct coaches
the difference between marvin bargley and aaron gordon is gordon went to the best team and bagley went to the worst so this video makes no senses, im sure if the roles changed then it would be the different outcomes for both parties.
"Highly recognized potential stars who fail to live up to their expectations" - Expectations put on them by media. The Kings made the wrong pick. Bagley wasn't top 3. Luka shoulda been the clear #1 but that old school American "Euro players are weak" mentality made the Kings lose out on a generational talent
Wiseman Ayton and bagley were all old front offices caught in the past thinking you win w a traditional post scoring big lmao jokic and embiid show you what works these people were just too stuck in their ways passing on luka was wilddddd 🤣 from a mavs fan
The Sacramento Kings should have selected Trae Young instead of Marvin Bagley III in the 2018 NBA Draft. The Kings would have been a much stronger team if they had acquired Young.
They were happy with DeAron Fox so they wanted a big man to pair with Fox to create the next great 1-2 punch to take the Kings to New heights. I'm pissed it didn't work out
I dont know, he hasnt played more than like 50 games a season, always has bad luck. He has good numbers for the minutes hes plays, his Per 36 stats would be great, would be a consistent 20-10 player. But he doesn't play 36 minutes, he only averages like 24 mins a game

I was at G1 center for the draft party and BOIIII! Was I pissed when that selection was made lol
What's worse? Luka Doncic, Jaren Jackson Jr, and Trae Young being picked immediately after Marvin Bagley, or Barry Sanders, Derrick Thomas, and Deion Sanders being picked immediately after Tony Mandarich?
who ?
Considering how successful the Packers have been in the last 3 decades, it's easy to forget how much their franchise could have been set back by the Mandarich pick when 3 Hall of Famers were available.
oh ok. Thx@@dionr1168
Definitely the ‘89 draft
@@DTS_I Now by no means am i
I saying the 1 player picked ahead of AND the 3 players picked immediately after Bagley are going to be Hall of Famers (we won't know the full extent of THAT until years down the road), but I am saying that we've had 2nd overall draft busts that bad before, using the case of the 89 NFL draft as a prime example.
As a Kings fan, I’m very glad Vlade Divac isn’t our GM anymore.
it's really seems like he's an undersized big lol idk how vlade could've messed this up
I watched him play multiple times in college and honestly none of this was ever surprising.
Bagley still 24, has time to turn it around
No...
As a Kings fan, this picked crushed my soul. Luka was right there. But look at us now lol!!!!!! It all worked out.
I mean….kinda. You can’t actually not regret not having Doncic can you?
i've been watching you since middle school korz glad the content it's still amazing as it always been much love dude
I went to school with Marcus Bagley. He was pretty chill
I think James Wiseman would be the biggest bust in recent history since his class was 2020 and Bagleys was 2018
He was drafted 2nd overall and Luke tried to put him in a blow out game with only 31 seconds left man it was disrespectful on luke end
Lol damn Marvin Bagley and DeAron Fox were supposed to be the next great duo for the Kings, what happened man😢
Fox is doing great but yea Marvin really just fell off
@@jay_1212 he was never good in the nba to begin with.
@@alexnguyen1284
Marvin Bagley III was just a Solid guy that never lived up to expectations.
At best he is decent, maybe good.
At worst, he would be a Shaqtin a
Fool candidate.
You never know, he got time to break out into a potential all star
''No team turns on an injuried riddled player'' yeah, no, most very much do lol
That couple years of drafting was so sick. Tre, luka, ja, Zion, etc. but I honestly thought somebody from one of those draft classes would have some something huge by now.
luka might. But his team sucks.
I don't let the media or analyst tell me who's a bust and who's not.
When the media are the ones who dictate who get into a specific sport HOF while hardly none of them ever played sports, I really don't give a fuck what any of them have to say.
Bagley isn't bad player. It is just the fit and injury problem. Hope he does well in Pistons!
Nah he is definitely doodoo in the nba. Should just go and dominate in Taiwan
He will do good in Detroit
@@49maderih no lol
@@49maderihDetroit didn’t work out.
Saying JJJ and trae are HOF is insanity
Its the very same picks with very similar reasons for the picks #2 Sam Bowie #3 Michael Jordan and it looks like the outcome could be be close to the same if Luka can get his Scottie Pippen. Luka is on a whole different level .
🤣🤣🤣🤣
The kings actually won that trade with Detroit. Trey lyles is a contributing role player on their team that broke the playoff streak
Josh Jackson, the 4th pick, is out of the league right now
That's not Ben Simmons. While Wiseman has not gotten to his potential. Simmons is actively Throwing away his. Wiseman AT LEAST IS TRYING.
I think one of the biggest issues was the Kings organization. We often forget the human aspect of basketball. They were never a good fit and the Kings dont have a great history when it comes to developing bigs. Just like Wiseman, players are all talented but fit matters
Biggest issue is he can't stay healthy. Dude built like mr glass.
Bagley focused more on his music career than his basketball career, dude couldn't use his right hand until year 3. Mo Wagner was giving Bagley issues.
Plus he enrolled a year early.
@@LeonarRonquilloexcuses you know there’s been other players that have done this as well right. Luka just lived up to it.
But his problems were that:
James Wiseman is a way bigger bust than Marvin Bagley, dont know what u talking about
I’ll never forget the “spin move” video of his off season workouts. It was going in to his third season, and he looked like straight trash with no one guarding him.
Bagley balls!
By that, i mean Bagley is testicles
It's funny. I thought he was gonna be bust simply because I didn't like his last name Bagley. Idk why but it just doesn't sound cool and I had a negative bias towards him.
I love the Mitchell Robinson nod!! Dudes the 3rd most important player on the Knicks
This draft pick keeps me up at night
Work and grind hard enough and people will gorget the Steph Curry with a 40inch vertical thing
I was high on Marvin come to the league but got disappointed real quick 😂😢
Vlade divac the one who drafted bagley is the bigger bust in my opinion.
Wiseman "says hold my beer"
they'll never take Markelle Fultz alcohol.
It’s crazy. Marvin had so many things going against him in Sacramento. Bad coaching, multiple bigs, bad environment.
Nah it’s Bagley fault
For a big guy, if you suck at defense as a big man just quit the NBA man. Your main job is to be big.
I throw Christmas dinner at my grandma for a chance to play in an NBA game
Chances are if you’ve got the second overall pick you wanna trade it away
Completely disagree. Bagley is a solid player but needs to be put in the right situation!
Keep up the good work Mike
How long will he last in the league before teams give up on him?
He was basically Sam Bowie 2.0. A promising big man picked between 2 superstars. But now he is going to be Darko Milicic 2.0.
Had the biggest bust of recent history this morning my boy
Wiseman deserves a video as well
I'd say give wiseman 2 more years. If by 2025 he aint producing, he a bust.
What does that make Jahlil Okafor or Markelle Fultz??
W video like all ways mike
Marvin Bagley and his family has the Black Entitlement problem, which is very common among the league's 'high potential' players and their families/friends.
great video ty for not blaming the kings and put the blame on the player. although to be fair luke walton was at fault too.
I feel like there’s more to him not producing than him just not being good. I don’t think he was given the opportunity to be the guy
He was given the opportunity. But he'd get injured and recover for long periods of time more often than not. Completely lost that opportunity when Monte McNair took over as GM. His father was also annoying AF.
Bagley is one of those rookies that is a lottery pick but need to get their ass on the court and get some reps at the summer league 😅
1000% blamed on vivek ranadive and vlade divac, failed to develop his weaknesses into strengths AKA right hand, shooting, defense, rebounding…. so much potential this kid had but wasn’t surrounded by the correct coaches
2018 sounds like a great draft class tbh
the difference between marvin bargley and aaron gordon is gordon went to the best team and bagley went to the worst so this video makes no senses, im sure if the roles changed then it would be the different outcomes for both parties.
I like how you just ignored Ayton being the #1 pick lol
Bagley was so op on 2k18 just because he's athletic and could shoot the 3 decently
NBA is such a clown league every draft only produces a couple of decent players everyone else rides the bench for 8yrs & collects millions🤡🤡
Biggest bust? A bit extreme
Wiseman Ayton and bagley were all old front offices caught in the past thinking you win w a traditional post scoring big lmao jokic and embiid show you what works these people were just too stuck in their ways passing on luka was wilddddd 🤣 from a mavs fan
I mean the one leg shorter then the other can actually be fixed through a chiropractor so we really confused now
12 and 6 isn’t even that bad. That’s how crazy his expectations were
Mike you need to talk or do a show with Gilbert Arenes
The Sacramento Kings should have selected Trae Young instead of Marvin Bagley III in the 2018 NBA Draft.
The Kings would have been a much stronger team if they had acquired Young.
They were happy with DeAron Fox so they wanted a big man to pair with Fox to create the next great 1-2 punch to take the Kings to New heights. I'm pissed it didn't work out
@@billblaski9523we would have just been in the same position when we drafted Haliburton lol
He will unbust his self starting this season. Remember this post.
Mike.
I give you James Wiseman. There is no question about this everyone else including Marvin Bagley is playing for second place
Sam Bowie 2.0, all Marvin will be remembered for is being that guy drafted one spot before Luka
Played against dude in 7th grade. He always had the size but never quite the skill required for NBA when everyone has that size
6:21 Bagley lowkey lookin' like Wemby
this is a vid full of “ayyy yo” and “pause” moments
He went to the Kings, that's enough to be called a bust
pick number 2 is just a curse, busts appear more than not
I dont know, he hasnt played more than like 50 games a season, always has bad luck. He has good numbers for the minutes hes plays, his Per 36 stats would be great, would be a consistent 20-10 player. But he doesn't play 36 minutes, he only averages like 24 mins a game
Idk why the heck everyone let's freshly traded DeAndre Ayton off the hook. Hes seriously approaching bust status, stupid max extension and all
