To answer your question, "proof" is double the percentage of alcohol. In the American Wild West, cowboys might be suspicious that the bartender at the saloon was watering down the whiskey. To demonstrate potency, the bartender would lay down a thin line of gunpowder, then dowse it with whiskey and strike a match. If the gunpowder still flared, the whiskey was "proved" and business could continue. :)
Interesting. I had no idea how it got called proof.
@@Butterflyandhearts95 Thanks to Leather Jacket Guy, I call it "horsepower" now.
KNOB CREEK! For those who don't know, Knob Creek Kentucky is an actual place, it's a small town famous for two things: the bourbon whiskey, and a machine gun festival every year which is the Wrath of God Incarnate. Huge gun convention, dealers from all over the country, culminating in the infamous Machine Gun Night Shoot. Late at night after dark, they fill junk cars with barrels of tannerite, and people unload with belt fed machine guns, the highest caliber they have. They record the whole thing with drones these days, look 'em up on youtube.
And no,, "Knob" doesn't mean "dickhead" like it does to the Brits & Irish, not in this context anyway. Here, it refers to a hill or steep elevation. So the name is something like "Hill Creek" or "Bluff Creek" or similar.
That's 'Merica! ❤
Keep an eye on Clara, she's a friggin beast on the drink videos.
She's an absolute legend on the drinking videos.
As a daughter of the fey, Ciara can handle just about anything except caffeine.
@@Heegaherger That explains quite a lot.
I always get a kick out of reacting to reactors reacting to reactors.
Sounds like a bit of an overreaction.
We don't use "knob" that way, but we know that they do in the UK, Ireland, etc.
There were 95 "horsepower" bottles around in college, but I never liked getting plastered. I do keep a bottle at home, but nobody's had any.
Love the Try Channel and is my favorite RUclips channel, sorry. You should do more on them. Ciara will drink most anyone under the table. 20 years sober but I love watching them drink and don't miss out on the durian saga with them.
In American English, one usage of knob is a rounded, isolated hill or mountain. So "Knob Hill" is redundant. :-)
No one in America really ever drinks grain alcohol straight, except maybe, on a dare.
*ahem* Raises hand. I sipped, but I did drink it at college parties. It was used more as an ingredient in Purple Jesus punch though, I'll admit.
Grain Alcohol used to be used as a thinner for paints which is why painters had a reputation for being drunks. They breathed in the fumes all day. Plus they had access to pure grain alcohol.
I love the TRY channel! Ciara is amazing lol her taste buds are like non-existent lol
Moonshine nowadays comes in many flavors
We do not use "knob" in that way... generally a knob used in this context would be a small copse of trees on the banks of a river or a creek.
This is a great channel, love the one where they tried legal American moonshine.
In Vietnam we used 190 ethanol mixed with orange J U. We had it because I was a medic. It was similar to Vodka, except it was flammable. We used it for our lab torches because isopropyl alcohol ruined the wick on the torch. It was drinkable, whereas isopropyl alcohol isn't.
I remember this one..love those guys! Everclear is not for the faint of heart.
most americans DONT drink that strong, 95% is rocket fuel lol...
while camping in my younger years we used it to start a campfire when the wood was wet from an earlier rain. Other than that it mixed well with fruit punch.
Yeah, most people don't drink it, but most drinkers have a story as to why they don't drink it.
Or used to clean the rust off of tools!
Exactly, alcohol this strong is really only used for making big quantities of hooch or “jungle juice” for Uni parties, and of course you don’t even need to use that much since it’s so strong
Need more Irish people react! love the channel
the alcohol content is half the proof . I have scars from drinking straight 151 proof Bacardi Rum with my buddy at his apartment . As long as I was sitting down I was fine , When I stood up the alcohol was coming up . I didn't want to throw up in his apartment . So I stumbled to the balcony and didn't stop when I got to the railing . Over it I went from the second floor down to the recently pruned shrubs that managed to inter my legs and a few deep scratches on my chest . The worst thing was that the neighbors below saw me when I passed by their window . They called 911 and I had to deal with paramedics and the police . I'm just happy I didn't die or go to jail !!
Wow mate! You beat my story in spades.
I know that pain!
You should react to the Tryers trying Durian flavored foods. It’s hilarious 😂😂😂
You should do the ones where they try spicy stuff. The lady with black hair is famous for having an iron clad stomach and it takes a lot to phase her.
Candy/sugar is what gets Ciara the fastest.
That's Ciara she is an absolute beast when it comes to alcohol and spicy stiff
Clear Springs makes the best Jungle Juice for parties! Just soak all your fruit in Clear Springs overnight and add to your Jungle Juice mix. At Halloween I put the mixed alcoholic beverages in black cauldron, add the pre-soaked fruits and some dry ice for a smoking party drink!
I haven't watched these Try guys in a long time. I'd forgotten how funny they all are. Moonshine is largely corn based and as such, has a bit of a sour note, which is what I like in a bourbon, as well.
Knob in the US has the same meaning but also means a mountain that is still green at the top and usually rounded but may be just above the tree line. The mountains that make up the Ozark Mountain range in the central are sometimes referred to as Baldknobbers .
The percentage of alcohol is how much alcohol is in the bottle compared so if something has - 50 percent alcohol in it that means the strength of alcohol per bottle
in my younger days i used to drink ever clear and Hawaiian punch that was my go to at every party
Being that it's from Kentucky, the "Knob" in Knob Creek probably refers to the freestanding foothills of the Appalachian mountains. They're all over the Bluegrass, which is the central region of Kentucky. And no, we do not use "knob" like that over here.
I'm not sure what you guys define it as, but in the US, a knob is simply a type of handle, as in a door or cabinet knob. Also, a rotating control on an electronic device is called a knob. It can also just simply mean a rounded protuberance, such as a "knob of wood". Clearly, your definition is quite different.
Think of the rounded protuberance at the end of a certain shaft like thing that hangs out below your belt line.
We used to buy "Everclear", which is another 190 proof grain alcohol. We used it for wapatuli (many different types of liquor, juices, and fruit mixed in a big vat).
I love the Try Channel. Ciara is a beast when she drinks. John is hilarious Leather jacket guy is a crazy mf when drinking. It's great
A fellow TRY Channel fan! Ciara's too... idk, "perfect" for me. She strikes me as the overachiever in class. I'm Team Blaithin, Team Justine, and Team Nicole all the way!
And Dermot. For his sins, Dermot is condemned to be the caretaker for the Republic of Ireland's first and only national durian conservatory. :D
I loved the episode with Leather Jacket Guy when he was drinking with Paul/Irish Jesus. As the video went on the more he drank the more mellow and "sober" Leather Jacket Guy got.
Fan of LJG for a long time now.
Leather jacket guy looks like the lead singer of monster Magnet.
@@matthill5426Dermot should be condemned to a peanut butter factory.
8:05 in the U.S. we also use "hair of the dog" but the one that I feel is unique to the U.S. is "bite the snake" as in bite the snake that bit you.
To me, and in many US regions, knob is a geological feature.
The two labels I have had in my past running around days of youth were Golden Grain and Ever Clear. I once mixed Ever Clear with Grape Tang powder and woke up laying down on a hillside behind the Girls Dormitory. with a missing wallet, and also missing a whole day of my life.
Leather jacket guy left the try channel and made his own drinking channel on tik toc
same, my last drink was 26 years ago. The accents are getting stronger the more they drink.
Congratulations to the Springboks! Wow! Springboks versus the All Blacks in the final! That will be something!
the only thing we use knob for here in the us are like door/ drawer or cabinet handles. or like the volume controls that are circular that spins. we would say turn or twist the knob or something like that.
Knob can mean the same in America, but in this case, it's more like a rounded handle, like the knob on top of a cane. Also, Knob Creek Bourbon is well rated.
Leather jacket guy...... He's hilarious... he has his own channel called. "are ya havin that".
Good entertainment and good people.
Leather Jacket Guy has his own channel. He used to do some great drinking shows.
11:38 Good to know a Kentucky flavor is appreciated.
Southern Ohioan here. I used to add a shot or two of Knob Creek (no, it generally doesn't mean the same here) to my pancake mix on Saturday mornings to give them a lil extra something. 😂 I especially liked their Maple flavored Whiskey for pancakes. I don't do that anymore except maybe on Christmas morning.
Leather Jacket Guy! He's Awesome!
Their videos are great, especially the black leather jacket guy.
Shame he doesn't do videos with them anymore. He does his own channel thing, which is fine, but I actually don't enjoy his humor style in his own videos so I barely ever watch him.
Clear Spring is my "daily"... 1/2 shot mixed with your favorite drink packet, get just as plastered for half the price!!!
Those little flavor packets you mix in water bottles, a glass of Ice Water, and 1/2 shot is PERFECT... Keep the stuff in the freezer and it's like adding liquid ICE to the glass!! Perfect on a hot summer night.
Disclaimer: more than 2 and you will hate yourself in the morning 🙂
Real homemade moonshine(corn squeezins) is like the last one. It would fuel your car.
I can imagine, even if it is remotely similar to the stuff we get here, you could strip paint with it, haha
9:35 people were using it to make hand sanitizer during covid 😂
In California we gave the occasional earthquake, soooo, glass bottles are not always a good idea. We do have glass bottles, but glas breaks when it falls off the shelves.
Also many local or basic home distilleries that make things with high alcohol and interesting ingredients for entertainment.
The lady in green is a beast. A beautiful beast. You should see her try the spicy stuff.
Knob Creek gun range is about 3 miles down the road from me.
Moonshine taste like rubbing alcohol . I've had some a few times. You don't know that you're dunk until you try to drive or walk.
Jono , the Irish man in black leather jacket and with the beard is sometimes called buy his fans The Irish Jesus he is famously known to be a jokester I love him 😍
Yes knob means the same thing and a few others as well.
I live in south GA where moonshine shows up here and there we'll say. Many, many years ago, I poured a large shot of peach shine in a mini paper cup. Ya know the kind that has wax in it to keep liquid from soaking through? Took 3/4 of the shot and had to catch my breathe. Felt something hitting my boot....it was 'shine. Had already eaten through the cup.....true story. But, it was a fun filled night with friends around a huge bonfire!!!!!
lot of gold on this channel to react to
I've tried Slivovits when I was stationed in Germany. Yes, it's charcoal starter.
I worked for a liquor store for a few years. One of my favorite coworkers of all time was a young Irish lad from Cork who married an American girl. He was hilarious. He knew whiskeys. And he had that fabulous accent.
I worked with an Irish guy at a liquor store! I once told a pair of customers that Jameson was Catholic whiskey, Bushmill's was Protestant. They had no idea wtf I was talking about, but he thought that was hilarious.
My mom's family is from Cork
@@matthill5426 And Famous Grouse is Church of England. 🙂
This group does a video where they drink several Jonny walkers. Very expensive stuff.
I’ve had Clear Springs and slivovica- I’d rather drink Clear Springs. Also I remember when I was with my best friend at a party in Slovakia and she said “we need to leave when the vodka comes out” haha.
My friend from work thought i couldnt handle fhat Clear Spring stuff. I drank it like it was nothing.
I had to laugh when you described the Slovak wedding - my mother was Ukranian. - by way of Canada,
so it is very much the same with a Ukranian wedding - with toasts going from table to table.
I was surprised to learn that Ukrainian Canadians are quite a large demographic only recently
@@coyotelong4349 Well, at the turn of the 19th/20th century they were looking for people who could settle the Canadian Prairie, Ukrainians were familiar with farming in a similar climate (think Winter Wheat) So My Grandparents arrived around 1905 and were married in 1906 - one of my cousins is still farming on the homestead my grandfather patented. A little history - the area that they were from was actually part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire at that time.
When I was young, college kids would mix 190 proof with grape juice equally. That would result in 100 proof grape juice. I would go a long way during a party.
You must watch the episode where they try moonshine
A 190 proof is 95% alcohol. It goes back to the days when alcohol was mixed with gun powder to 'proof' how potent the gun powder was. The term is a little archaic now but still used.
I love Leather Jacket Guy 😂
My favorite whiskey is 100 PROOF, SOUTHERN COMFORT.
Missippi mudslide mix fixes the flavor of everclear
You can save money by getting the 151 proof instead of a double shot for a mixed drink.
I tasted my first slivovitz when I was 12. Dad's family was Czech and Slovak, and some of our Czechoslovakian cousins had managed to come visit us in Oregon. (This was 1968, a few months before the Russians invaded them.) They brought a bottle of homemade slivovitz, and we all drank a toast. Including me. I knew enough to knock it back as fast as I could, but I still swear it evaporated before I could actually swallow. However I was pleased that I didn't sputter, cough, choke, or fall over. 😆 Everyone still laughed; I was the youngest in the room.
Everclear is another 190 proof grain alcohol in the US. It's illegal in many states, but not Oregon. It's a staple at college parties here. I didn't drink it straight often, but managed not to kill myself when I did. Btw, high-proof alcohols work great as an ingredient in marinades for meat. 😄 Teriyaki, for instance.
Us navy bahamas half gallon of vodka, 6 pack of beer, guy selling drinks on the beach. Add the dudes smoking blunts and renting jet skis. I made it back to my ship with help. Great time.
Vodka doesnt give me a hangover.
Beer definitely gives me a hangover especially draft beer.
This is about 4 years old years old. Ciara (green sweater) is a champion when it comes to drinking, food, spicy things, and most everything else. Leather jacket guy isn't there anymore, but he was very funny. I always liked how he says the alcohol percentage as horsepower. I've watched the Try Chanel for about 5 years. It's pretty much family friendly, but the occasional cuss word pops out.
Am sitting here drinking my morning coffee and my stomach is turning 😂
My personnel favorite is Wild Turkey 101 Proof Whiskey. ❤️
In the United States, the proof is twice the percentage of alcohol by volume (ABV). For example, a spirit with 40% ABV is 80 proof.
You need to watch their other alcohol react videos!!!
Jono, ive had some homemade moonshine and it will put hair on your chest then put hair on that chest hair 😂
We buy the grain 150 proof to soak maraschino cherries in, cherry bombs are good to have at parties, a hit! I hear it's a great toothache reliever 😂
You should react to Irish People Try Four Loko. That one is also hilarious.
Ah yeah… good ole everclear. Reminds me of my 20s. A few of my buddies who were ex marines used to bring it to my house parties and I’d do shots of it with them.
Then again we also just would mix a variety of high alcohol liquors in a pitcher and drink just straight liquor by the pint or half pint depending on the day. Make jungle juice, make a “trash can” make something chaotic.
We even make a drink we called a Chernobyl. It involved red absinthe, everclear, Bacardi 151, and poitín. I can’t recall the rest of it. But we never made it the same twice. It was potent.
Yes. Knob means knob in Amnerica. Its a nicer way of calling someone a dumbass. It also means a willy.
i actually have a bottle of Knob creek 9 year 100 proof right now ... or to be more precise a quarter of a bottle left of 750 ml lol it's lasted a month tastes great with coke
Mostly use the higher lvl drinks for parties. A little goes a long way slap it in a punch bowl or something and everyone is having a good time 😂 And do try moonshine but tread lightly.
Best advice!
7:39 It may smell like nail polish but the bottle looks like a floor cleaner!
ok where i am from thats called ever clear and if you look on you you can see people running small engines on it.
This is a little older video from the try channel - The young lady in the green sweater enjoys very strong liquors,
she can be frightening to watch - she just did 7 shots of some serious alcohol in this shoot!
Shine is like drinking water 😂
You need some apple pie moonshine
You said you want to try moonshine. That was moonshine, 190 proof grain alcohol is moonshine, or as the locals call it, shine.
No, knob isnt really used that way here too often. Not unheard of but very rare.
I don't drink anymore outside of the occasional beer. But best of luck to them drinking those high percentages. And in parts of the US, knob means the same as it does in the UK, but I believe it has another meaning in the US.
I find knobs on the dash of my car. They are on the switches.
Finally caught one within a minute
I love the Try Channel, been watching them for years, glad you discovered them!
Knob is like a hill or a door knob or something you turn. At least in the US it is.
The shoot that made Ciara a legend 😆
Yeah I used to drink a fifth of tequila in a sitting. Now I gag just watching someone else do it.
My go to are a thing called buzzballs. There in all different cocktails lol. Ive also had grain alcohol and man does it have a kick lol
Seems like nothing bothers the dude in black jacket. He totally reminds me of the Irish immigrants that lived in our small community. Totally never let anything bother them. Just rolled off their backs and some good Irish whiskey and the whole world was fine again. 😊
My record is 7 shots of everclear. It was BAD. Haven't touched the stuff in over 20 years. Watching them drink it made me feel those bad feelings all over again. It's good in mixed drinks.
10:28 Honestly he's probably taking it all home based off his reactions.
